Should you Buy an Electric Garden Tiller?

  • Today I was tilling a new garden for rhubarb and decided to make this little review video of the electric garden tiller I have.
I am really impressed with the performance of this little tiller and I recommend it to anyone with a small to medium garden or for flower beds.
I still plan on buying a gas-powered tiller at one point but this will do the job until then.
Watch how it easily tears through my grassy lawn, into the topsoil and then into the fill to create a new garden bed. Then it quickly mixes compost with the soil and the garden is ready for planting.

I have never seen an electric tiller in action so I was watching closely. I have a smaller gas powered Honda with 4 cutting wheels on it. I'd say that the one you used and mine are fairly similar. I find that these smaller tillers bounce a lot but do the trick after a little extra time. One thing that helps me is a pitch fork. That really helps lift the soil and loosens it a bit. Then come in with the tiller and it usually cuts through like butter. I have a good sized raised bed so I have prep the soil before planting all my veggies.
Nice little review here... I hope all your stuff is growing great!

They do tend to hop a lot, especially when there are rocks. But it beats doing it the old fashion way with a hoe, rake and shovel 😂 I did all my previous gardens by hand and don't miss that! So far my garden isn't doing fantastic, we've had a very hot, dry summer and I've been so busy with the camper I neglected the garden a bit early on when it was most important. I'll be doing a year 2 update video in late fall when the season is over.

Brilliant video thanks for sharing I think the best thing about a electric tiller is it works the soil to a fine tilt I use it all the time in my large garden where I have raised beds and two polytunnels saves time and effort I think we paid 80 euros 5 years ago and its still as good as new

It is definitely a great tool for the price. I have since upgraded to a bigger one but still use this for smaller jobs.

I got a weed lawn and hard compact soil. This would take ages I imagine.

Depends how big an area you want to do and how deep. I did my four 4'x30' gardens with it the first two years before getting a rear tine. It's definitely suited for small jobs or those with limited budgets.

Set up a lawn sprinkler for a while before rotavating, and they work better if you walk backward

Never thought of an electric tiller before. Seems you have your work cut out for you. Glad you can use this until you can get a gas one.

Yes it is a lot of work for one person, but seeing everything grow then the harvest in the fall is worth it.

I have a Ryobi electric tiller, about that size. I love it. I had a small gas one. When it wore out, I chose electric. Wouldn't go back to gas.

I will be upgrading to a larger gas tiller for big jobs but will keep this one for the smaller beds.

What would happen if it hit a tree root? Would it destroy it?

    • @nothandsomebuthandy
      @nothandsomebuthandy  8 месяцев назад +1

Depends on the size of the root, small ones it chops up, bigger ones it chips away at and kind of bounces off of.

I just checked and amazon is out of the one I have in the video but I added 2 links in the video description for 2 other ones that are available. One of them is a larger version of the one that I have and it looks pretty rugged.

Ooooh, a 20lb rock is not going to end well for anyone, let alone the tiller
