Thanks for this video. Being an amateur, I need all the help I can get to start flower beds and a tiny garden. Will order this. Maybe the tines can be changed to 12 gauge.
My guess is that if this had 10gauge tines, they would not bend and instead they would damage the 'axel' they are attached to. So I wonder if it is intentional that the tines are designed to 'give'.
I have the same thing and I'm not a pro and I used it to tear up never-before tilled ground and it did great. Occasionally I had roots get tangled up in it. But otherwise it tore up the ground real good. And I see I made a mistake operating mine - I didn't put the wheels out of the way :-D. Still did a fine job.
My options were to rent a tiller for for a day for basically a little less than this cost to buy, or buy a gas-powered tiller for 10x the price of this one. I figured if it was lousy Id just return it. Its been over a year, and I've used it for some smaller gardening projects and its still going strong. I have not even looked at the tines cos its just getting the job done. I'll check now though and bend back any bent ones.
A friend borrowed it from me but he said it didn't do a good job. His soil is filled with leftover construction debris so maybe he was scared he would break it. I mention that only cos he is my only other point of reference. HIs experience was not great but I have no complaints about this tiny cheap machine.

Not to bad, I did get into a vine type plant that wrapped all up in the tines and I had to stop, unplug it and clean it out, but that was my fault 😂🤣😂 I was in to big of a hurry. My grass was also cut pretty short before tilling as well. Hope you get it figured out.
Which 2 buttons need to be pushed to get it started/I pushed only one button that's all I knew about I don't know about a second one.
The tacklife brand tillers have a safety button that has to be pressed before the start switch can be pressed. It's like a child lock, it is located close to the actual start switch.

Does anyone know where I can get tines (Blades) for this machine? broke mine.
Mine has only been used once and I took it back out of the box, plugged it in and got nothing. Outlets all are good and work snd ext. cord is brand new. What do I do?
Are you pressing the safety switch? 2 buttons have to be pressed before it will run If you did then I would return it.
Sorry, I just seen where you had previously used it, so you for sure know about the safety switch. Try another outlet.. if that doesn't work I'd return it.
What kind of extension cord do I need to buy?
I used a heavy 10/3 cord that would carry the amperage well..

I spent alot of time trying to clean tines out. I'm not a fan of it. Also the electric part drives me crazy. Too limiting. I will definitely switch to Ryobi so that I can use the same battery that I already have. Very disappointed in it.
I do wish Craftsman had a tiller that would fit my craftsman batteries... I agree about the cord getting in the way.
It seems to me if the tiller weighed more, it wouldn’t bounce around so much.
Yeah a bit of weight wouldn't hurt, but after the initial ground breaking it doesn't jump around much and does more digging down. Big rocks are also a factor in making it jump.
use a flat cinder block to put across back by the bars I seen somebody else do this on another tiller... one of the sun Joe tillers

Sun Joe does make a 18" tiller but its double the price of this 18" taklife.. I can't say this one is better because I haven't tried the Sun Joe yet.. they look very similar...
The handle on the Sunjoe looks so weak to me... I opted to buy this one instead.
I've watched multiple reviews on the son Joe tiller 13.5 amp..... this is the first review I have seen on this specific tiller in this video and they look about the same only the son Joe tiller blades seem stronger
I borrowed the more narrow unit from a friend to break ground.
My issues. It isn't for short people. There is no way to shorten the handles. The handle is to high to comfortably handle for someone short.
The angle for a short person makes it easy for the tiller to jerk forward and fly out of control.

Intelligently designed- NO
Great advice!! I'm 5' 8" so it was comfortable for me. But I could see it being a problem with shorter people.. hopefully Tacklife adds some height adjustments.
@@MissouriAgitater I'm 5ft. I either have to keep my hands above mid chest and push down with what little weight I can manage and risk my toes or allow it go go forward and have it just jerk forward, almost pulling me off my feet.
My father used to have a huge tiller that would adjust down for short people- way back in the 70s.
I finally had to call a friend for help. He is 5"10" and said it was almost too high for him, if he was any shorter it would have been uncomfortable for even him to use. He is a 65 year old farmer who had used tillers for many years and only sold his large one last year 'cause he stopped growing tobacco.
@@moranarevel Now I'm really wondering what model you used.. I just rewatched this video and also went and double checked my tiller. The handle comes even to my waist with the wheels adjusted up to the "till position" and it gives it a lot of room for taller people, roughly around 12" but lowering it about 6" below my waist, then it starts hitting the tine guard.
@@MissouriAgitater now I'll have to go check this one. The handles are different from the ones in the website now.
I'm not sure the wheels fully, I'll have to go check. The guys who owns it won't be back in town for two weeks more and I have stuff I have to separate and plant before that is them be too large. This area was full of cuckleburs last year and I've pulled the roots up. But this is Kentucky clay also.

I did turn the handles around to make it easier for me to bear weight down.
I have to stop for the days as my carpal tunnel is killing me.
I'll check tomorrow to see if the adjustment at the wheels work.

Thanks for the review and demo…that’s just about the same amount of area I need to till, and it’s mostly been tilled before, plus I have rich, black soil, with very little rock in it. (#1 reason to hang on to the land, besides the value keeps shooting up), and I’m kinda done with maintaining gas-powered yard tools, unless absolutely necessary. I think
I have been looking at tillers, and Tacklife has been good for a backup, random-orbit sander…vs. my DeWalt, which actually hasn’t outperformed the Tacklife which I got so I could “double-fist” it, so to speak, on a massive sanding project. It definitely paid to get a second sander and use 2 hands, and when someone else comes along, I have an extra one to let them help. During the big sanding project, I was surprised that I kept reaching for the Tacklife. It just felt better in hand, and I kinda have big hands (thanks, Dad), so for ladies with bigger hands and for most guys, the Tacklife random orbit sander is as ergonomic or better than the DeWalt, and is every bit as speedy, and smooth, if not a touch more (I’d have to go back and look).
And the Tacklife jigsaw is…OK, but not as solid feeling as others I’ve used, but it’s a cheapie backup as well (most everything I have is DeWalt, but for seconds, or for that “my budget hasn’t had the room lately for loads of good power tools and just replacing them when they wear out like it used to”, I’ve gone with alternates like Wen or Tacklife…so anyway, I’m glad to see a real review on their tiller, I’d rather pull than push it anyway (same with a shopping cart, if I have to use one, it’s much easier to drag it along than push it)…
And a tip for a better grip for big hands on those skimpy handles…you can get a pool noodle from the dollar store, especially in spring and summer, I get a handful because they’re a buck and they’re so handy, (or use a length of outside pipe insulation, it’s a bit smaller in diameter than a pool noodle; grip it and see which seems most comfortable in your hands) cut it to length, slice along the length and slip that sucker over your grips on snowblowers, tillers, lawnmowers, etc. (…even some rakes and such, not everyone has tiny hands, but we’d never know it from some of the tools out there).
They also fit nicely over bucket handles (and bucket edges, for reasons of your own), and the footrest of a lawn chair, especially a reclining one, or a “zero gravity” chair. If it wants to slide off, like it might want to do on a thin, wire bucket handle, like on your orange, or your blue, big-box store, 5-gallon bucket…which I call “project buckets”, which I also use to keep all the tools and supplies (that will fit) for current projects, each project gets its own bucket or two)….if the wire is as thin as the slice in the pool noodle or pipe insulation and it pops off, that’s nothing some well-placed, good old duct/duck tape can’t fix. Duct tape and electrical tape, worth their weight in gold.
Anyway, thanks! I have some, but limited experience with Tacklife tools overall, and the results have been a bit mixed, though mostly very good, and nothing. terrible.
You answered all of my questions about the Tacklife tiller, either verbally or by seeing it in operation, and I agree that if they upgraded just the blades, it would add that level of quality and assurance. Happy planting for the family, when the time comes…(it’s January now)…
