    Yesterday I purchased a new, Fender Custom Shop Strat. I was pondering on it for a week or so, then in the end I thought, I could custom order one that has nearly the same specs, perhaps different pickups and some minor cosmetic differences, probably pay about the same amount and wait well over a year to get it. Or just buy this one and be playing it the next week.

    Until recently I always used to say we were in a golden age of guitars in terms of quality vs price. It was a wonderful time to experiment with different types of guitars, because even crazily affordably priced instruments were unlikely to be total duds. So, it really was a case of "if you fancy it - just give it a try"! I've added some great guitars to my line-up that way - and they all justify hanging on to through something they add.
    Now, with prices starting to ratchet up (and I think it will get a lot worse), there's a different reason to buy sooner rather than later - if there's a new guitar you really want, now's the time to get it, because it'll only cost you more if you wait!
    And sadly, once the prices have gone up, do we really expect them ever to come right down again once the market (hopefully) stabilises again?

    • @SingPsalms
      @SingPsalms 2 года назад +1

      Maybe. I think they run the risk of pricing themselves out of competition. With these budget brands being what they are, a few mods will be enough for a good guitar. I bought a few of them, and they felt great and play just as good as anything else, especially after mods. Eart, Donner, Firefly, Harley Benton, Grote, etc. I'm sure there are plenty of companies who will jump on an opportunity to fill a demand. I think the big companies need to watch out if anything, it's definitely a new age of the guitars.

    • @charlesbolton8471
      @charlesbolton8471 2 года назад +2

      The prices won’t ever go back down unless individual businesses are willing to take a hit (or if the manufacturers give incentives on slow sellers) to move something specific.
      I do think prices will level off, and go back to only having slight increases when a product line is updated as opposed to price increases across the board. If guitar sales volume drops off as quickly as it increased in 2020 there will definitely be a lot of great deals to be had by those who are financially able/willing to buy.
      I think the used market is going to be flooded anytime now which will drive used prices down to a reasonable level in pre Covid terms as opposed to reasonable based on current new prices.

I can look back on too many guitars over the years I let get away which now cost more used than they did when they were new and in production, so I couldn't let that one get away.

    • @bradrehn1007
      @bradrehn1007 2 года назад

      Good question so I did a bit of research.
      While the term "antiquity" usually refers to items 100 yrs old or more,...
      Vintage furniture seems to be about 50 years or more. Guitars, basses and amps seem to fall in this category as well. Though arguments can certainly be made for 30 + years or so, to be considered Vintage. Think of the 80's shred gear, (many, then new and long lasting developments came to be) so is an original locking tuners/FR style tremolo equipped guitar Vintage? Probably, depending on the player.
      However for some pre 70's seem to be the hallmark. ✌️🎸

    I’m waiting for Fender to add an affordable Lefty Jazzmaster into the MIM range. I don’t need one enough to pay £1700-£2000. Aside from that my collection is pretty complete.

    I just pulled the trigger on a white Gibson Les Paul special tribute with P90 pickups. Was told by my Sweetwater rep that these are now discontinued and the coming shipment will probably be the last. I suspect we won't see a Gibson under a grand again.

    Fender needs to figure out the Jazzmaster. Between the radically different pickups and the rhythm circuit or the kind of rhythm circuit but not really or the no circuit but here's a switch........... It's annoying. Especially when you're always mildly looking for one.

    I’ve got 20-ish guitars and a few custom made which is likely what I’ll do next but I’m mainly waiting on a good idea for what to have built next. I’ve got a ton of ideas but nothing has stood out above the rest.
    I have 2xBass-VI’s and more will always be welcome…baritone 6 in strings in general. Tons of baritone 7’s and 8’s but I’ve never bonded with those but a 27”+ for metal would be great. There are a few but I’d like more options like the ESP Phoenix or BC Rich Ironbird baritone 6 would be awesome.

    Baxter isn’t wrong about the Bass VI. After Get Back I was curious about picking one up. The only production model is a Squier. The new Squiers look very cool but my inner snob doesn’t want to pay that kind of money for one.

      @@andrewhess2978 Absolutely. Even a Mexican one would have been cool, especially for all the guitar players recording at home. The offset design is also really popular with younger players. Definitely a missed opportunity - but Fender can still rectify it and put something out.

    VERY impulsive guitar buyer here! Bought three guitars in the last 30 days! They are very different: Fender Road Worn Telecaster, Epiphone Les Paul Junior P90 and Charvel San Dimas Style 1 HSS HT in Pearl White.
    Oh yeah, Vintage Icon V62 😳 I play every day but my ADD would keep me from ever settling on a particular set of specs for a custom build. Currently removing trashed finish on a clear Fender FSR Ash Tele but the thought of painting it seems bad because the wood grain is beautiful!

    It’s funny you should ask that. I wanted a Tele for a while and I loved the look of “Telemasters”, or offset Teles (as Fender calls them) but I couldn’t afford a Custom Shop and I didn’t want to buy a Squier. Until I accidentally saw the Fender Japan 2021 Offset Tele on special. As good as the USA guitars, ashtray bridge and vintage tuners, maple board and Fiesta Red with a white scratch plate. I couldn’t pass it up. So, now I don’t have to wait. Plays great, sounds awesome. But I’d still like a Jetglo Rickenbacker 330/6…….🤔 Arrrrgghh, it never ends!!😖

    Here’s why you have to try out your guitar. I recently found a guitar shop about 2 1/2 hours from my house that had a certain artist telecaster. My first tele. Was going to order direct sight unseen but this place had one available. I decided to go try it. Thank god I did. It was horrible. Terrible neck feel, like bending over sandpaper. I was more than a little bummed. So what to do? Well thanks to Rueben I spent the next two hours trying out everything but the one guitar that I refused to try because of reviews and how they sounded on RUclips. I was down to two choices, a original 60’s and a performer. Both were ok. My wife bless her heart made me try a pro 2. Tried 3. First two were ok, nothing special. Then came the third. I always play a couple chords acoustically. Oh my goodness. It just rang. Like nothing I’ve heard except for my custom Strat. Two of the other salespeople came over when Rueben called them and they all shook their heads. It wasn’t just me. It’s real sometimes the right piece of wood matched with another matched piece of wood makes magic. It is mine now. Yahoo my first tele and it was no where near the model on my radar. Go figure.

    I have two Mexican Player guitars. One I built and one they did. I love both, though the one I built is spec’d out exactly as I want it. There’s nothing wrong with the Mex plant and never has been. I’ve owned Am Strats and I still have an Am Tele. Only Fender I’ve ever had that was trash was a Starcaster Strat. Made in China and really the biggest piece of junk I’ve ever cut my fingers on.
