  • In this video I critique a 3.5 men's doubles pickleball match. I point out what the players did right, and what they did wrong. You can watch this video and learn how to play most effectively so you can be the best pickleball player you can possibly be.

    Good concept and points made. My recommendation would be to not pause it unless you really have a lot of points to make. Talking over their play would keep people more interested since it is continuing and not stopping all the time. That's just my 2 cents.

      This is definitely below 3.0. A 3.5 player should hardly ever pop the ball that much. Also, third shot drops should be the norm.

    Great channel Rory. You’ve earned a subscriber here. I’m a new player, been playing for a few months. I’m developing a decent 3rd shot drop. The satisfaction from consistently hitting that shot is pretty sweet.

    I enjoyed the breakdown! It’s nice to see more average players sometimes. I do think at 7:15 the player in yellow made the right call to stay back. If his partner pops up the ball like that, he’s making the right move to stay back and prepare for the incoming overhead smash. Giving himself extra time and distance to react.

    seems this final should be called 3.0-3.5. I guess it depends on where you are from? Also, I have run into a few tourneys where the skill levels are not super clear. Did this mean it was up to 3.5 or was this 3.5 to 4.0?

    Wow. I just started playing & I think I could handle them. None of them have a soft game. When the ball is below the net line, they all just pop the ball up to the other team.

    Look at 8:21 this is at least the 2nd time you called the guy in gray out for putting his hand on his knee when it never touched his knee. Some awkward form for sure and should be set better before hitting the ball but his left hand just passes in front of his knee.

    I've been told the best serve is one that lands in bounds. Trying to hit a serve as deep as possible tends to land out of bounds, guaranteeing no point scored.

      A short serve makes it very easy for the receiving team to get to the non volley zone and control the point. I love receiving short serves. We win most of those points.

    Hi I am a tennis player, just starting this sport. few months ago. I have been told I am pretty good-people think I have been playing for a year or so. How do ratings get assigned?

    • @pickleballpick-apart9787
      @pickleballpick-apart9787  Год назад

      Thanks for watching. It's kind of complicated. You can kind of rate yourself. Just google pickleball rating system. As a beginner, you could be 2.5, but, are probably 3.0 because of your tennis background. However, remember, pickleball is not tennis. It's a much different strategy. Find out what it takes to get to 3.5. for instance, to get to that level, you have to be able to hit a consistent third shot drop.Also, try to play in some tournaments and see how you do. That will help you get rated.

    • @duanestclair
      @duanestclair 6 месяцев назад

      Here is my quick and dirty way to tell a person what their rating is. How often do you have a dinking point in a match? Never then you are below 3.0. Once or twice then between a 3.0-3.5. Half the time 3.5-4.0. Most points then 4.0+. As the skill level goes up the ability of players to have a good soft game goes up and the number of dinking points is the result.
