Woodturning - A Waterfall Vase !!

  • Here I used a Wenge bowl blank to make a vase .. It didn't really turn out out like I wanted.. I should have taken more note of the grain before gluing up ..the grain is cool but doesn't go well with the resin and it looks unbalanced .. (or is that just me?)
    Thanks for watching.

Since you asked - the grain on first consideration, does distract from the waterfall effect of the resin.
But, on second consideration, it reminds me of the way that waterfalls cut through rock, creating such effects. Layers of rock get twisted on themselves, maybe not making complete circles, but close enough, which demonstrates the power the forces underground, but then water just cuts through it and goes where it wants.
I suspect a geologist would love it.
    And the shape is elegant.

Sir, this is the second time I have commented. I just love you style. The way you design your art is always amazing to me. My wife and I really love to watch your videos and are never disappointed with the results. This last vase was as always amazing and I have learned from watching you. I do have a suggestion for a project that may be something you may like. When you hollow out your project you have all the shavings from the wood, especially with the dark woods. I would love to see you collect the shavings and mix them with a light colored or clear resin and make something. It might be silly but I would love to see a project of yours in that style if possible. I love watching your work.

@@wowthatsrandom5676 as a person that made knifes at one point, i know youre joking now, because knife making consists of shaping the knife, and sharpening it, both very trivial compared to this. Just because you know how to do it doesnt mean that its easy to do, and its not. There are lots of steps that arent in this video that you need to take into mind.

@@Husqy dude i'm not lying, my brother really does make knifes, last Christmas we got him this special metal and idk how but he turned it blue. i think he said it has to do with how hot it is when you cool it down. but he makes knifes all the time, he also works with wood, and one time he made a knife handle with a deer antler b/c he also hunts. i do similar stuff but not the same. but i can for certain, this "vase" is easy if you have any skills at all

@@AndyPhillipWoodturning tbh as a craftsman myself i noticed it when i looked at the product in the end, the rings of the wood could have been better alligned so it would have looked like a single piece of wood that somehow had this "water" in it, its still one piece of wood but looks a bit unbalanced in my opinion. nonetheless good work from you it is always relaxing to watch other people making nice things.
