You sure have had some thought provoking topics recently, and I think that's great..!! The quality of the education in our public school system in America has been in decline for many years now, and with the destructive Socialist agenda of 'wokeness' and CRT and other dehumanizing agendas making it into more &more school districts, it is just getting worse.
I live in a rural area of Arkansas...which most of Arkansas is anyway except for a few areas such as northwest Arkansas which is growing fast. And here in the rural schools, we have been so far...so far...resistant to CRT and the insanity of having Drag queens having show & tell with Kindergarten children and other woke agendas.I think this is due largely to this rural area, and I think, and hope, for most other rural areas in America, that still have a strong Christian base of fundamental Judeo-Christian values. But the pressure to conform to the latest wokeness and the older term of "political correctness", is always present and gnawing away at those values.
I am 72, retired, and I became a substitute teacher about three years ago. I sub for the local Jr. High and High school. I love it. I love interacting with the kids, especially the Jr. High 6-8th graders. I do not just sit at the teacher's desk and yell at the class to get quiet or to quit misbehaving, but I make it a point to stay in motion, walking around the room and try to have contact with every student and help the students with the assignment whenever I can. I try to relate on their level and we often talk about what's going on in their lives....when appropriate and as long as the work is getting done; and they all know that I insist that the work must be done. The students tell me that I am their favorite sub and I get lots of "high fives" as they go from one class to the next.
But I have seen many examples where a student is severely lacking in some basics. I had several 6th graders who could barely spell and read. I was shocked..!! They were at a 3rd grade level, and these students were not special ed. students or anything like that. Students are not held back anymore but are just passed along to the next grade..at least in this rural area. And so the kids keep getting further & further behind.
Yep...the Amish are fortunate to not have to accept whatever destructive educational agendas that the NEA promotes. They understand the need for the basics. It is a mixed bag here in rural Arkansas. I see a few Jr. High students who are very smart, very disciplined, and make excellent grades. I see some High School students who are in advanced Algebra and Geometry and Chemistry and English/Literature and the other subjects.
I respect the Amish and their choices in how they raise their children. I did not start any kind of school until 1st grade...and no, I am not Amish. I think that Kindergarten was not even available in the small farm town where I was in elementary school; and pre-k was unknown there as well. I firmly believe that spending the first 5 years of a child's life at home and with the mom ( primarily ), is so very important.

Thank you for sharing...I agree with what you are saying. We always have to go back to "God is in Control" right? He has a plan...I know that things have to get really bad for some people to pay attention. I just hate watching it...That is the one reason we started the Homeschool support group. At the very least parents need to take their kids back. it is OKAY to make decisions for your kids - parents DO know best..they are being taught that they aren't good enough...so sad! And Good for you for subbing. You sound like the BEST sub!

@@LivingThatSimpleLife You said.." We always have to go back to "God is in control" right?". This is what the Socialists/progressives in Washington and the NEA cannot stand to hear...it makes them mad. They want the government...not the parents....and most certainly NOT God...to be in control. Socialism dictates that only the government is in control of the people and knows what's best for everyone. This has been so very obviously shown by the actions of many school boards across the country.
Your Homeschool support group is great to hear about. I hope it just keeps getting bigger and stronger for y'all ( little bit of Texas drawl...lol..!! ).
My only concern with homeschooling is this: Education is...should be...the most important thing, but school is also where the kids start learning how to get along with others, to learn some coping skills and how to hopefully help learn how to understand and control their emotions and their emerging hormones...OH MY..!! In my opinion, this is where the public schools have traditionally been important...kids being together everyday in class and on the playground and being exposed to the different races and cultures and learning how to live together.
In a perfect world, kids would be learning these things at home and through the church environment. But we know that is not how it is.
How does your Homeschool Support approach what I think is the important socializing part of school? I know just a few parents that home school and they have ways of getting their kids involved with other kids.

You have encouraged me! It is the biggest thing parents can do to fight this new culture. We have to raise our children with a moral compass. Our job is to guide them and lead them. And YOU are amazing. Having a disability and STILL taking on homeschooling. You are 100% proof that YOU ARE ENOUGH! Thank you so much for your input!

After discovering more teachers coming out of college being activists, rather than teachers. And visually seeing this first had yesterday at two schools directly were my daughters were supposed to start in a week. This option isn’t something us parents should shun. I have watched directly how Washington, Oregon, and California have destroyed their schools. Being also a past school bus diver for over a decade I saw this slipping in every year. I agree completely with this model the Amish are showing us another way! One question I do have is are their RUclips opinions, because I keep my daughters clear from Facebook completely too? RUclips is the only area we are in and I monitor this completely to keep my daughters safe.
