- Air Tractor 402 spraying canola field. No music, only airplane sounds. Turbo prop ag aircraft spraying in South Africa. They are flying fast an low over agricultural fields to apply pesticides. Listen to the sound of the Pratt & Whitney turbine engine which is a popular engine in crop duster aircraft. Low flying and with a engine which is basically a jet engine connected to a propeller through a gearbox they fly along at 140mph. These are not aerobatics, although it might looks like it. It is everyday operation for a ag pilot.
I Do Love this video...my Dad and Husband were 'Crop Dusters" and they retired in their late 70's!!!
An incredible aircraft flown by an outstanding pilot. When I was 12 years old (1977) my family moved to a rural area of NJ. Being an airplane fan I found a local cropdusting strip a mile and a half from my house and would religiously bike there every morning at 6am to watch and learn the craft of those men that plied the trade. I wanted to do the same. Health and other pursuits dictated otherwise. But I still envy those that do so.
To all you younger viewers, this is the result of a man who has taken care of his health and has fantastic dustin' skills. Some guys are done at 50 yet this man at 70 - when this video was taken - proves the value of a job that you love. I would love to sit and chat with this pilot about his close calls. I'll bet he has some doozys! Got to stay active....
Makes us old folks proud, beautiful flying!
My congratulations to this senior-aged pilot who demonstrates fantastic flying skills!!!
Outstanding video, no ridiculous music, just the sound of that beautiful airplane, well done.
Best pilots ever known 👍👋👏👍🙏👍
This pilot is better than great, credit to the Air Tractor too of course !!
Phenomenal talent involved to do this everyday without accidents.
Wow. This guys incredible. It's like there's a magnetic force between him and the ground. So accurate. ....and the sound of the turbo prop. My goodness sounds so awesome.
From 4:26 to 4:45 is simply beautiful. The pilot makes it look so simple, but it is a devilishly complicated and dangerous maneuver. My congratulations to that 70 year old genius!!!! Greetings from Argentina !
Another great part from 5:40
4:53 the best sound on a summer morning
perfect AUDIO!!! Thanks!
Good old PT 6 one of the best turboprop engines ever built right here in Canada ! Awesome flying I have 4500 + hours in my log book so I can surely appreciate the skill of the pilot !~
70 years young! Great flying Oom!
Reminds me when I was a kid, and these cropdusters came around the farms around our neighbourhood. Sometimes these planes seemed to almost touch the trees around the agricultural fields they were spraying. Hope this pilot is still flying.
I loved watching crop dusters when I was a kid in the Mississippi delta. We never used them on our farm. We just did our spraying with tractors.
Jealoooooous!! Awesome flying!!
The fast turning 3 blade wakes up the neighborhood! "Goooood morning"!
All the man needs is a Thrush 510 and he'd be in business.
Now you're talking......I must say I also like the Thrush more. Enjoy! Although I myself have not flown one myself' but I have flown in some of them. But I just like the look of a dual Thrush.
Impressive! Very beautiful and challenging work👍👍👍
5:40, best part of the vid!
A rainbow, how he goes behind the hill, vortexes and how he works perfectly with the ground surface...
Amazing!
wow that is an amazing shot!
For me, its every time we hear that prop go supersonic!!!
Most of the 3000 ag pilots working in America right now are getting up in their 60s and 70s .They just are not being replaced by younger pilots
Love how this guy follows NOE. Very talented pilot.
Don't need any music if you have a turbine to listen to ! Best sound there is. And of course that of a radial....
Robert Pabst turbo prop. Not radial.
Al Rodes , No, he means the sound. GEZZ!
V8 IS BEST SOUND.
As Al says - no radials was involved in the making of this video!
Ahhhh the radial engine’s, that’s music to me ☺️
Wow, inspecting the runway, not sure i would even consider that a road. Great flying!
God, I want to do this! If I could get my medical back this is how I’d support my family.
Amazing. His maneuvers could still have had some "Gs" in them.. At his age, I envy and congratulate him.
This pilot is Awesome ! I've wanted to do this since I was a child .. outstanding Howdy from Texas
Love the condensation ring from prop tips on take off!
Very nice. Awesome tractor, the pilot is an artist, and the scenery is beautiful. Thank you for posting.
The sound you hear on take off is mostly the prop not the engine! The PT-6's are fairly quiet! Our first turbine was a 402, They are real work horses!
I never realized that a lot of crop dusters arw turbo prop planes.
The place where I fly gliders has one of these as the tow plane. Quite rugged. They have supports for the wings going from just below the cockpit to about 1/3 the way out the wing. I have seen a pilot go over the fence, about 15 feet above the road, under the telephone wires, up and do a hammerhead stall, flip the plane 180 degrees, fly back under the wires, across the road, over the 6 ft high fence and start spraying.
The plane you're talking about is the Piper Pawnee. Much smaller and and a bit slower, but very agile.
This is great to see. My grandpa got his private at 72 😂
Always wanted to do that growing up watching them spraying crops growing in that black gold soil in Bele Glade, fla. Never learned to fly but airplanes have been in my blood since I was a toddler. At 62 I still build r/c planes that will never be flown. Just as I have an affection for whitetail antlers and surf boards. All 3 are just beauties to behold. I could fall asleep w either one of those 3 things sitting on my lap.
What kind of R/C planes do you build? Are any for sale?
Go for a burn in an ultralight. Cheaper than you’d think and heaps of fun.
Have someone help you get in the air with your RC planes. Someone to check out a plane, check the balance, check the throws, and then take off and trim the plane, and land it for you. Memorize the controls and have him hand you the Tx for some stick time at a safe altitude.
Some mighty DAMNED good flying
Great flying - keeps you young
My god este piloto tiene 70 años increible pero vuela este avion con mucha avilidad como un piloto muy joven excelente video con su sonido original👏👏👏👏👏
Super flying skills. Keep sharp. 70 is getting up there for this stuff.
He is one excellent pilot
man thats a cool looking plane
Awesome... and bless the old feller's heart!
You can see the experience very disciplined flying...it showed like he was on rails or something. Great prop sound as well it added to the aviance...
WOW.. a 10' wide airplane on a 12' road and centered...............good job !
No reverse when lands...thats a pro my respect...
Absolutely amazing 👏 !!!!
Poetry in Motion. He has GOD as his co-pilot.
Thank you for the nice video, that bird sounded beautiful.
And that is not even the biggest; they make an 802. They had an airport in my area where they serviced them for a time and those things are enormous. A friend had a crop dusting service next to one of our farms and it was fairly small compared to them. We lease our farm lands out now and they are sprayed, but I can't really tell the models; amazing to watch. I am old enough to remember bi-planes and a guy with a stick and rag marking each pass for the pilot.
Best job in the world... fly fast, aim low!
MR. Young by my houes was the same age 70 years old his plane was not a Turbin but it had a Pratt & Whitney 1340 Radial I would allways watch him working that old plane when I was a kid till I was about 33 years old he was out working seeding a rice field down the Miller Lake road I was out there filming him with my camera he made a full passes on the sixed pass he started making a turn and the plane just made a nose dive strate into the ground in the rice field all could say was O MY GOD O MY GOD running to the plane crash when I got there got on the plane to help him his face was all busted up bleeding took my shirt off to put on his forehead to stop the bleeding and he just died right there in my hands I found out three days later that it was a heart attack that was the cause of plane crash may you RIP MR. Young.
This PILOT is definitely ahead of this bird!
Looks just like Arizona 😊
Retired military ace? I think so! Mad skills like no other.....
one of the best engines
perfect video, i love it
Aplausos para los huevitos de estos pilotos !
that some serious terrain hugging
I believe they call that "contour flying".
In any case he is an expert at flying below the radar. Hahahaha
Dit is ons land se beste pilots
I like sound turbo pro engine
I AM ONLY 73 AND 3000 HOURS FLYING AGRO AN-2 AND MI-2 ALSO IN AFRICA EGIPT AND ETHIOPIA. MY SKILS HAVE NOT EQUAL.
As they used to say in the Royal Air Force, "A good landing is one that you can walk away from."
If you like this vid, check out Scott Palmer on youtube. He flies these and makes some sick vids of the flights, on board, etc. Crazy how few guys getting into flying realize how many awesome jobs there are out there, as a pilot...at least I didn't. In generally you just think of airlines and corporate, flight schools, etc. Hunting, sightseeing, skydive schools, agriculture especially....some real cool jobs out there flying.
Me gusto tu video
Wow. He is following the terrain variations like it was computer controlled but it is not. Great to watch.
Looks like Dusty is a real farmer.
The last takeoff I can see how much right Rudder he had to give it to compensate for the torque of the engine
Good observation there, Mike. There's a lot of things in this video that you'll catch if you have a true aviation interest.
P effect on takeoff, prop vortex spiralling back around the fuselage hitting the fin on the left and hence right rudder is used to counteract this tendency. On a left arc prop, left rudder is used.
Better get some fifties mounted on those wings times are changing.
I always love this part 06:38
I sure do miss the legendary Ag Cat with 600HP Radial engine
Well apparently there are old and bold pilots
That air frame is to nice to be called an "Air Tractor", something like Farm Fighter would be more suitable I think.
Remember ...times of harvest & prep
Work...of fields was approached by supervisor to do experimental task of
Delivering green larva lace wing to fields by remote control Hank bluebaker approached my dad in this task he welcomed that idea.. sussed but needed many more flyers to fulfill all the fields..
Man, those passes were buttery.
When that aircraft is unladen the power/weight ratio must be laughable.
It's almost like he's using a 'terrain following' kit in it, the way he's hugging the ground.
Hy thats dusty the crophopper 😮😮
I don't understand what's so skilled about him. It flies 4m above the field. I should come to Argentina where and see how to fly at a height of 1 meter at most.
Dream job.
Real Pilot, not a bus driver.
БРАВО👍🔊🌐💞🌺🎈
THANKS
Nice following contures of field and missing trees and wires
That's the way we boomers roll. LOL
Now that is true CC chasing cows flying
Q buena avioneta caray
70 year experience and zero fucks to give. What's gonna happen? He could die? Hes made it this far!
So is he a 76 year old ag pilot these days??
No, he retired in 2015.
70 ain’t that old, he’s still got another 20+ years of flying
Do air tractors have turboprop engines? they sure sound like equipped with turboprop.
Yeah this is a turbo prop.
It will be interesting when they appropriate all that land and equipment "back" to the Africans. We'll be seeing a video of dead fields and a crashed airplane. Then the cries for foreign aid to help with the legacy costs from the apartheid.
Precisely!
Appropriate, I heard they already started killing whites, and they set a ratio for hiring whites so far. Like up north where the Europeans built nice building etc. are in ruins now
@@mac26x98,
I'm looking forward to seeing what "djf" described. Maybe I'm vindictive but the way Africa has been treating the Europeans, they should just get the hell out of there and let Africa fend for itself.
"Back"? What is needed is a business/legal form where the owners employ competent managers.
RUclips has vids on native Areo-Engineering.
A Real sight to behold !
We have a lot of cropdusters here in South Texas. With our fields close to the house we get to experience this often.
By the way, I always assumed South Africa to be flat. What mountains are those??
Those are the mountains North of the town Piketberg in the Western Cape province on the West coast of South Africa.
Thanks for the reply!
0:26 The real life version of Dusty Crophopper is here.
My dream job for me
I appreciate the footage, but I wouldn’t want to be the one out there holding the camera and getting sprayed lol
Well done . airstrip
Doing a Very Good Job Spraying but most likely that AT 402 Came From Air Tractor aloney Texas right strait from the Factory and then Baugh from Farm Air and sold to the Flying Service Company
He know how to fly that thing
The new aged pilots address themselves as an “802 pilot” indicating they aren’t capable of flying anything smaller. 😂
I hope that pilot shown other how to do that nice
I want to fly this air tractor..
