You can upgrade the units in two different paths, one up to 5 times, and the 2nd up to two times.
Also be wary of 63 and 78.

General tips that a lot of people have suggested:
Focus on all the upgrades, not just one path at a time per tower.
You can upgrade two paths per monkey, up to the first two levels each, then getting a third level upgrade will "lock" the other path. E.g. getting hot shots on the tack won't let you upgrade farther than level 2 of the other paths. This is called crosspathing.
The amount of exp you get per monkey to unlock upgrades is divided by the total experience of the wave across every tower you have on screen based on the amount spent on them. So the towers you spend a lot on will upgrade faster.
Try adjusting the targeting settings on the monkeys. Click on them and the option is right under their portrait. For example, snipers are best on "strong" and monkeys with projectiles you want to stay in a straight line should be on "last".
Your instincts on tower placement are pretty good though!
It's a great game you can sink thousands of hours in with some really hard challenges, have fun!

i mean he intuitively figured out most of the core principles of the game, except for the fewer towers with more upgrades is better than more with lower upgrades doctrine, which doesnt really apply until you do actually have all the higher upgrades. his positioning was pretty good, he did cover all bloon types fairly early on (by accident more than anything, but still )
I can say with confidence that i have had partners in a MP daily challenge that have been way more clueless and they have had 100+ levels... not that levels mean much aside from time played, mind
I can't believe how well you were doing for your first go at it. Usually with this new players die to either lead or camo just from not having monkeys that can pop them, but you're getting along well on hard mode. Well done, that.

Use strong targeting on sniper monkey on heavy hitter upgraded snipers and first for the fast reloader snipers in tandem with night vision so they can take out camo fast.

Tips from a Bloons player of many years:
1) Snipers are BEST used to take out the heavier targets on early waves. Set them to target “strong” bloons.
2) If you can avoid using monkeys with active abilities, do it. They only become a big deal later in the game, and they can be tricky to time.
3. Place your tack shooters on strategic points. You has the right idea, covering as much path as possible, but you have to consider where the bloons are going to be if your other towers are doing their jobs. A better place would be where you placed the glue monkey.
4. In BTD 6 specifically, heroes are VERY important to keep in good places, and some of them have buffs they provide to a specific class of tower. Use them in the right combination and it completely changes the game.
5. As you unlock more towers and new upgrades, the game gets both easier and harder. Take the time in sandbox if you’d like to test how different upgrades affect popping power in different choke points, then budget your purchases to reflect the performance.
6. If you upgrade monkey classes in the skill trees over time, I have to say, the most basic dart monkey is actually one of the best upgrades. The crossbow upgrade in particular is amazing, and is even better when paired with either extra pierce or extra speed in the right places.

I don’t want to make that previous comment ridiculously long, but I have to add that camo bloons are a big problem that even experienced players underestimate sometimes. Ninjas are an easy counter for early rounds, after you unlock them of course.

I know this is a little late but as a veteran bloons player I thought I might as well lend you some friendly tips to make the game a little more interesting
1 - You can choose two upgrade paths. I noticed you were only ever using one but you can use two up until a certain point. So for tack shooter, ex. You could do faster firing AND more tacks. For the sniper you can night vision goggles AND faster firing or full metal jacket. But when you get to tier 3 upgrades, you can only choose one path. This way it opens up more customizability options for your towers and arrangement
2 - Trying to get the maximum range out of your towers is a good thing, but not always. Sometimes its better to cram as much as you possibly can into one small corner for reasons of space saving. Some towers take up a lot more space than others, ie, the canon, and putting it in the middle has severely limited space for other towers that could provide more popping power, meaning you'll have to place them elsewhere and sometimes it isn't the most ideal.
3 - For beginners just like you, I recommend spamming as many towers as possible instead of focusing on certain ones. THis way you can gain each of them xp much faster, which will be beneficial in late game and other game modes when you can only use certain types of monkeys. You won't need to upgrade them they'll already have the upgrades unlocked, which is, handy to say the least.
4 - If your going to use a hero during a match, try to get them before the first 10 rounds. They upgrade themselves over time so the earlier you can get them the more upgrades they'll have. Don't do what I did and get a hero at round 50 then lose because they weren't the right upgrade. Trust me, it really really helps to have them upgraded as usually their abilites come in quite handy.

I'm disappointed: this video wasn't nearly long enough. The nostalgia is real. I remember playing the first few Bloons games. I recall there was a radar tower which would reveal the camo bloons to all your monkeys that were in range of the tower. I'm very impressed at how well you were doing first go on hard difficulty. I'm disappointed you didn't get to see the M.O.A.Bs ("Massive Ordinary Air Blimp" aka "Mother Of All Bloons") or B.F.Bs or Z.O.M.Gs. Very scary when those things come on the scene.
I would not call your layout optimal, but it is exceptional for your first go at this game.

Set the targeting priority of the sniper to “strong” and the bomb tower to “close”.
you can do something with monkeys called crosspathing, each tower has three upgrade paths with 5 upgrades in each path, and when upgrading you can upgrade two paths for one tower but only one path can be upgraded past their two upgrades.

If you liked balloons you should try kingdom rush. It’s another td game and (at least in my opinion) it is both harder and more fun than balloons

I used to play bloons all the time. I played every one, including their side games like the super monkey one. I remember finding the first one online and playing so long, the browser would so down so much the game would be like, 1 FPS. You could get to a point the game just froze. There was no real reason to go that long back then though. No earning upgrades and what not. Been so long since I played. Makes me want to play again.
It's really interesting to see a newbie play Bloons. Don't take the haters to heart, RCE, this is definitely a game I'd like to see more videos on.

You can change the targeting for most monkeys to first, last, near, or strong. Set those snipers to strong so they hit the biggest Bloons!

Just a little tip:
Setting sniper monkeys and the glue gun, and more monkeys/towers, to hit strong bloons first so you can eliminate those early on. You can do this when you click on the monkey/tower and click on the arrow at the bottom of the picture of the tower. There are more optoins to choose from too.

Alright, so the submarine-monkey and the pirate monkey are only gonna be useful on levels that have water.
Glue monkey and ice monkey are only supporting, they don't actually do any damage (to my knowledge) .
Also you can click on individual monkeys on your map and see their pop-count, which will tell you if sniper-monkey are doing any sniping.
Ice and glue do damage. I know glue for sure. Its ability does damage and maybe tier 4. And as for the sub and pirate, you can use the pool from your powers and place almost anywhere.
@@dancingbandet123 if you get top path glue tier 2 it does damage and ice will do one damage unless you get bottom path or top path i believe

As a bloons fan i love this
OMG I love this game! I have over 100 hours and have beaten evey difficulty on several of the easier maps. The tack shooters and missile launchers were good choices, they're pretty strong, just remember that you can upgrade two paths of any monkey so you can have more tacks AND faster shooting!
Also, jumping into Hard first time? Brave.
My dude you can upgrade by two rows not just one, and quincy is as useful as a rock in gun fight
