I think the Texas anthem proclaims our pride and independent spirit. This anthem combined with our strikingly beautiful flag is powerfully moving. Long live TEXAS!!!
I think the Texas anthem proclaims our pride and independent spirit. This anthem combined with our strikingly beautiful flag is powerful!! TEXAS FOREVER!!!
Maureen Potter Having gone through elementary, jr High, and High School in the great state of Texas, I have never heard our state song. I was taught that it WAS our state song, but it was never played or sung. This version sung by a school children's choir brings tears to this 56 year old 4th generation Texan. Every child in Texas should know it as well if not better than the Star Spangled Banner.
@@tomnewman7586 I'm a son of Texas, and I learned this song in school! I graduated this year, but I still remember how to sing it. And yes, I know it much better than the US anthem. Because I'm a Texan, NOT an American!
You can travel almost the world and say one word "Texas" and everyone grins, can point to it on the globe and give you a 👍👍👍 Not every state can say that. In Germany old guy heard us speak and said "Texas?" .he had been a POW..said I LOVE TEXAS!!
The Texas Aggie Band plays Texas, Our Texas following the National Anthem at games. Some people still mistakenly think that The Eyes of Texas are Upon You is the State Song. NOT!
I was in the first grade in 1957, yep a long time ago. We would start the school day with the Pledge of Allegiance, then followed by The Marines' Hymn (the one that starts "From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli), and finish with Texas Our Texas. We had the routine down pat, and did it word for word everyday. It was down so rote that at times I really didn't think about it, I just mechanically rattled it all off, and that was the first grade. We only did the first verse and the fourth, afterall we had school work today and couldn't spend all morning singing songs. Honestly I wasn't even aware of the second and third verses until I JUST saw the above! Then came the second grade in 1958 and more of the same. Then in 1959 when I was in the third grade something happened. The lyrics changed. So, after having singing Texas Our Texas one way everyday in the school year we had to change after three years. Why? Well Alaska became the 49th state and it was larger-landwise than the State of Texas. We had just lost our bragging rights to being the biggest state in America. To me it felt like a demotion. Ouch! But the hard part was trying to change the lyrics after singing it one way mechanically for three years. We went from "largest and grandest" to "boldest and grandest." "Largest was a statement of fact, or used to be, while "boldest" was of course just a statement of opinion. Any state could claim that (or grandest even). It was hard, somebody ALWAYS screwed it up singing it the old way. I'm not certain of this but it seems we had to start the song over if anyone made the mistake using the old lyric. Anyway, the song has been embedded in my mind for some time now even though I've forgotten some of the lyrics. It tickles me a bit thinking I'm old enough to have been in the midst of a change in lyrics and experiencing it all firsthand while many of us stumbled through it.
Texan Nationalist Agreed The Texas state song is really worthy of the state and its people. In style, composition, and singability, I prefer it to the National Anthem. But both bring tears to the eyes of this freedom loving Texan!!!
+Tyler Pape we never meant to stay independent from the beginning we wanted to be a us state but the jackasses in D.C. didn't want us. back then we weren't as powerful as we are now and wouldn't have survived more than half a decade. but now on the other hand we could survive and be a some what major power but Texan independent will never happen because the liberals in the government would never let us go without a fight.
RedSunRises No I think we would have been a major point of immigration and if Lamars Presidency and Political career would have gone better Texas would've survived. Now we are bound by the Union with little hope of freedom.
Texas is the only state that has a star and I'm glad that I'm a Texan...and remember this quote ok ..drive the Texan way .....that means we drive crazy and we don't care and when you make a rude comment about texas we have all our facts about texas not like all this other states ....what history do they have we have almost all the history ..I live at Waco Texas and that's where DR PEPPER was invented and the. Got hit with a tornado in the 1900s ...I LOVE TEXAS SUPPER SUPPER MUCH
On this day, 21st of April, 2016 a talentless metrosexual hack died. Infinitely more importantly, on this day, 21st of April, 1836, the Texian Army inflicted a crushing defeat on the Army of Mexico, and captured the Mexican head of State, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. Happy 170th San Jacinto Day, to all the members of the media who seem to have forgotten!
Euan Hamilton Not really. Liking his music is subjective, and therefore disliking it cannot, by definition, be ignorant. Also, other, more important things happened that day, which were overshadowed by the death by drug overdose of a vain, litigious popinjay. Which was the point.
ShufflingShoggoth Liking his music is subjective.. calling him "talentless" is ignorant. An accidental painkiller overdose of an incredibly famous, talented and well respected musician is obviously gonna be big news. Of course it "overshadowed" something that happened in 1836. Hardly current, is it?
Let my guess you live in Cherokee Texas and you school is on Panther crossing btw kid don't put your personnel info online just from that info I know here you live.
This is how Texas came to be: Mexico: hey America, you guys can settle in our land but you just need to follow our rules cause, ya know, you're in our country. Settlers: yeah, cool cool, anyway we're gonna take all this now. Mexico: dude what? Seriously?!? No! Settlers: no yeah, we want it and we have zero respect for you as a people/country. Didn't you see what we did the native Americans? Lol Mexico: dude, not cool! US: actually, yeah. We'll have Texas and all of northern Mexico too. Mexico: 🖕
Tyler Cuthbert It depends on where you are from. Texan by birth, Southern by geography, and American by conquest. As part of the Confederacy, we lost. But Texas still remains. There has been a faction in Texas emerging in recent years for Independence again for Texas. Regardless of how it turns out, Texas will still survive and Texans will always be proud to be Texans and will be proud of and loyal to our state. God bless Texas!!!

i never knew that each states has there own state anthem songs ....why wasnt i tought this In school ??
most of them aren't really worth listening to, they're kind of dumbed down and subservient to the national anthem
Texan Nationalist Agreed
The Texas state song is really worthy of the state and its people.

***** Lolz
Tyler Pape We probably would have been screwed early on, our population was too small and spread out. Instead, we should become independent now.
RedSunRises No I think we would have been a major point of immigration and if Lamars Presidency and Political career would have gone better Texas would've survived. Now we are bound by the Union with little hope of freedom.

Sorta like what Spain did to native Mexicans
Settlers: Sorry, We don't your dictator (santa anna) thanks but no thanks.
Not even close to what happened.
Texas declared its independence from Mexico when Santa Anna suspended the Constitution of 1824 and became a dictator.
zachary clifford You did your homework better than the first guy. You get an A+ for this lesson.

Still doesn't trump Dixie.
