On "My Car Story" we're in Lake Geneva WI on 11-2-21.
We're looking at a 1950 Ford Custom Deluxe Club Coupe in Coronation Red Paint. The car comes with the factory Flat Head V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Dennis Roxworthy. Dennis’s had this car since 2006. He shares his Dad had a few brand new ones when he was growing up and wanted one too. This one looks “showroom” new.
    ENJOY!

Outside of 1949 quality control issues, it is easy to see why the 49-51 Fords turned FoMoCo around financially. The 50 Club coupe is probably the best looking car of the whole group not being out done by the convertibles and the 51 Victoria hardtop. The fantastic style of this car along with the great flathead V8 continues to make this still a very desirable car to own (still on my personal list). Looks like a 50-51 Nash Rambler in the garage (a future my car story???). Thanks to the owner and to Lou for bringing us another fantastic car.

Hi, Lou! Ford certainly had a car to be proud of in 1950. Dennis's car cuts quite a handsome profile in that uncommon club coupe body style and that flathead V-8 is definitely the stuff of legend. Undoubtably a great car for our old friend Dennis to have grown up with. You guys had a great day for a for the tour along the lakeside with all the nice fall foliage. As always with Dennis, a perfect example with "zero excuses" as they say. The front end is so iconic and truly a flawless design. An interesting thing is that the designers were refining the design using the sedan body. Typically, it was the coupe body. If you look at a side view you'll notice that the coupe design, as beautiful as it is, is a tad "quirky", and the sedan body is more proportionate. Of course the convertible is the topper - when is it not?! LOL

Brings back pangs of remorse for my 51 Custom Deluxe 4dr. sdn. By the both the hood, and trunk lid were counter-sprung. The dash layout was more attractive, in my opinion. The center bullet front end was better looking than the twin bullets on my car. Sadly, no over-drive on my sdn.

Lou, my first registered car was a '51 Ford Custom coupe. Flathead V8 engine with a 3 speed OD manual transmission. I upgraded the engine with a high-performance cam, Offenhauser cylinder heads and tri-power intake manifold with three Rochester carbs. Car was black with red/white interior. Later, I put an Oldsmobile J2 engine and Oldsmobile A/T in the car and changed the car to a 12v electrical system. The car has had two owners since I sold it, but it still exists and still looks good.

Loved the look of this one. Ford hit the nail on the head with this new body style in ‘49. The front grill was supposed to resemble an airplane propeller. U could add on all kinds of engine accessories to the standard Ford flat head V-8 to boost performance and power. Very popular looking and selling car in its day. Kudos to Ford for this one.

Had one door open and was looking around under the hood when my friend opened the other door and the whole firewall moved. I was so disappointed. :/ It was a lot rougher than this beauty to put it mildly. I had to walk away after seeing that. This one is beautiful as all of Dennis' cars are. What a cool piece of American history. Quick anecdote; In the summer of 1996 or 1997 I spent the summer doing some rehab work on my dads friends small farm. We needed to cut down some small trees to build some barbed wire fence and he broke out an old Sears gas powered chainsaw that we dated to sometime in the sixties(it was turquoise and white). That son of bitch chainsaw ran like pissed off mountain lion and would zap through those trees like a pair of side cutters through zip ties. The funniest part was my dads friend said that old Sears chainsaw sounded like a Ford flathead V8 and that we should probably be running 30 weight oil in it. If I remember correctly I think he said he hadn’t started the tool in ten plus years before that summer but it started right up with a little oil and gas. I guess that was before ethanol so a small engine could sit for years without the carburetor being fouled.

Very nice. I know to fall foliage is pretty, but I would have liked seeing Dennis's shifting techniques as after he stopped he put it in first gear and then watch him shift through the gears on that 3 on the tree transmission. Just wanted to see if Dennis had the proper technique that these younger guys on RUclips don't have.

Lou, thanks for another interesting video. Though I'm confused as to where you are in this video. I see the Illinois license plate, but you mentioned Lake Geneva. Isn't that in Wisconsin?
This car certainly looks loved. The aero-car door emblem you pointed out is interesting. I never knew about that. I also didn't know about the fancy interior lights on the B-Pillars. They look very deluxe. Something else new to me is seeing that Ford used a binnacle for all the gauges. And it's much nicer than the binnacle VW had used for years.
How many heater cores does this car have? I'm counting four connectors at the firewall. The badge on the heater under the dashboard says Magic Air.

Did you notice the smoke from the tail pipes? One guy told me you could always tell a Ford was coming your way by the blue smoke. This was because they were valve in block. If they didn’t smoke you better shut it off and check the oil!
