Tokyooffroad RUclips I got his silicone/ thicker/ more reinforced hose for the lower left. The original & Tokyo hose is 1" diameter at the rad end & larger at the thermostat end. Hose is 2.5 inches long. Also before riding it I put an aluminum Bullet Proof TPS cover replacing the plastic one. An Acerbis plastic skidplate with suspension linkage extension cover. KTM rear brake shark fin. And replaced the plastic 90 degree bend fuel tank outlet to a nice looking Slavens Racing black aluminum outlet. The 2021 & 2022 come with a factory capacitor I understood. At least the XC model. KTM sells a kick starter kit that is not too difficult to install. KTM poor production with some non-sealled electrical connections so I also filled from the outside via dielectric grease. Also wiring and cables are just not secured and will rub on stuff. Silicone hoses are much better, stronger, and last longer than the stock rubber coolant hoses. KTM stock hoses crack within a few couple years. Nice bike but not as torquey or as much hp as my older CR500 that still has more than anyone's stock 450 4 stroke per independant dino runs. Overall not happy with KTM assembly. But otherwise ok for my 1st KTM. Everyone I know drops theirs in the 1st hour and most of us break the end off the clutch lever. All while stopped as bike is tall. Some keep the lever clamps a tad loose, or add teflon tape onto the handlebars under the clamps to aid it them slipping on a fall. I got the KTM clamp tops with the plastic insert to ensure the clamp rotates on a fall and tighten the clamps less than the torque spec so I can bang it with the palm of my hand and adjust it after a fall if needed while away from my vehicle.

Can you comment about how much maintenance time does it require and what percent of it is required to be done by the dealer? My KTM dealer is 1+ away. Thanks!
Honestly the only "major" maintenance you'll run into (assuming no abnormal wear or damage) is going to be a top-end rebuild every 80-100 hrs. I recently sold this bike before it's first top end rebuild was do. Most guys do it themselves, but an experienced mechanic can do it very quickly at a fair price. Other than that, just usual stuff like spoke tension, chain tension, grips, brake pads/fluid, suspension fluid / seals, chain & sprockets, etc, etc. But, you replace that stuff as it wears out, or when the manual says to. My opinion: the manual has set service intervals for those who race in hard enduro, since this is a "competition" bike. So, if you're just trail riding and such, you can stretch the intervals for SOME of the maintenance items.

I’m debating on selling my 300 and downgrading to a crf 250f like you had. I just don’t ride enough to justify having that much invested in a bike. What are your thoughts? You think I would be satisfied with dropping down to the crf 250f or you think I would miss my 300 so much and just keep it even though I don’t ride often? Thanks!
I suppose it all depends on what you want out of riding. The crf will never be capable of doing some of the things the KTM can, but it can still cruise trails all day everyday. If you're cool with that, then yeah, same some cash and some time with maintenance. Both are great bikes for sure, just depends on what your after
Been seeing a lot of videos on warming these bikes up, how long do you recommend? I’m picking mine up today, and definitely over looked things, thank you for the advice, I will be following it.
I was riding around in about 45° f the other day and it took a very long time to warm up, probably about 10 to 15 minutes. I would use the warm up knob at startup for about 2 minutes then let it idle with the knob turned off for a little bit, never touching the throttle. Then I would ride it around slow for another seven or eight minutes. I've got another ride coming up this weekend where it'll be about 40 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit and I'm probably going to tape off my left radiator. I expect it will take about 10-15 minutes to completely warm up.
@@ThomperBeThompin well now it’s sitting in my garage lol one more question. The break in time on the motor, guy said to run a full tank out no full throttle or hill climbing, just moderate riding, is that what you did?
@@mritalianhillbilly heck yeah! I tried to follow the manual as much as possible. It says for the first 3 hours stay under 70% throttle, then for the next 2 hours stay below 100% throttle. After that I changed out the transmission fluid and rode it normal. I was able to get this done in two rides.
Awesome bike. You will love it. I chose the 2022 Beta 300 rr race edition can’t wait for it to come in. I was set on the KTM but then I rode a beta and I was sold.

If you want oil injection just have them add it at the factory you can build the bike exactly the way you want it and when it comes in it’s done. Next on the list was the warranty 6 months! Way better then Anyone else. On top of that When I contacted Beta to ask some questions I received a email back from the president of Beta USA you will never get a email from the president of Honda, Gas Gas , Husky, so on so that was huge. Then it was the riding experience During the test ride the dealership had 2 bikes a 2021 250 race edition and a 300 race edition and I took both for test rides after riding a KTM 300xcw TPI the Beta starts immediately the KTM was slow to start. The Beta comes with the ability to easily make it road legal in my state a huge plus. The KTM not so easy. The Beta has that trials background feeling. When you ride it the bike feels so light and agile. With gobs of low end torque that just keeps pulling. Now let me hit on some of the little things that put it over the top for Beta Looks Beta bikes are beautiful Beta is a family owned company Beta maintenance schedule is a little more lax. Beta still has a carburetor I see both sides of that coin I have a 2014 WR 450f and it has fuel injection and it works great! But it is easy for me to work on no tuner needed for a Beta Plus when I go riding I won’t look like all of my buddies riding the same orange bike. KTM has a skid plate for that bike you just need to order it. They don't include them to keep the price competitive and they know no one cares and will order one when they buy the bike.
For real (although, I'd hate to be the one guy that actually starts one). I mostly got mine for the race series I partake in, but turns out they don't EVER check for spark arrestors even though they are "mandatory". Definitely not as much of a factor outside of the desert regions in the SW and the grasslands. That said, one dude did set about 50+ acres on fire here in WV with his truck a few years back - so, it can happen.
Sorry, but having to replace the oil injector on a 11-12K bike every time you do a top end is just unforgivable. The oil injectors on old Japanese 2T bikes lasted a lifetime.
It definitely sucks, but I've heard of guys with 300+ hours on their original oil injectors for these tpi bikes, so I think ktm might just be overly cautious and covering their butts
There seem to be quite a few "growing pains" that KTM is experiencing. I've heard some great stories about the fuel injection / oil injection, and also plenty of nightmare stories about it. I really hope it becomes a reliable system since basically all the manufacturers will be going this route at some point due to regulations. These things need to be reliable!

My 2021 te250i the power valve started leaking before I even had 2 hours on it.
That sucks. I suppose it's only a matter of time until mine starts doing the same.
I'd stick with carb model KTM-250 & 300 smokers. Too many electronics on the TPI bikes! I have a older 2011 300xc and am looking for a 2019 300xc carbureted model and I'd go with a Smart Carb 2 and once they're installed properly they're hard to beat. Stone cold reliable bikes with just basic maintenance.
I do love the looks of the 2022 KTM-300xc w TPI for sure! It looks great but needs a carbon fiber skid plate, hand guards, front and rear disc guards, upper fork guards like Acerbis and a swingarm guard + a carbon pipe guard, maybe a GPR or Scott's steering damper/stabilizer. All yeah a TM Design works chain guide n slide and a swingarm tab guard.
That’s wild I’m at 26 hrs on my 2021 te250i an I’ve had zero issues whatsoever
@@ashtonross5376 same, I'm now at over 20 hrs and have zero issues, just things to know Incase something does seem off.
I got my 22 exc300. I’m on 7 hours now I found after 2 hours it really came alive
after 26h i had to replace the cyl head and piston, unfortunatelly idk why. the head cyl was dry like sahara when i opened it and it also has the last map with more oil
@@ZAA1stCalM got to be oil pump failure ?? Ktm helping ??
@@l888enduro2 i checked the oil pump with the fuse and it seems to be working fine. Although after 26h i barely got below mid level in the mixing oil tank which was full when i got the bike and never refilled it since because i always had enough. Ktm is not helping since i purchased my bike 1 1/2 months ago and my warranty expired 2 weeks ago.
@@ZAA1stCalM strange, my bike came new with nearly a full tank of oil, I topped back up at 12 hours as the light would come on doing hill climbs, it went in for service at 12 hours & they recommended topping it up also
2022 black frame? Where can I find it ? All I seen are orange
The regular 300 XC-W has the black frame. I think the erzberg editions have the orange frames
@@ThomperBeThompin that make sense now. I’m new into KTm products
@@ThomperBeThompin thank you.
How to remove fuel vapor retention system?
Awesome bike. You will love it. I chose the 2022 Beta 300 rr race edition can’t wait for it to come in. I was set on the KTM but then I rode a beta and I was sold.
I thought very long and hard about those betas too. From what I hear they are fantastic machines. Can't go wrong with several of these bikes!
What sold you on the Beta?
@@UnicornMoto first and foremost the Beta Build Your Own Beta is really cool! You can order the bike exactly the way you want it from the factory! If you want disk guards just have them put them on at the factory. Now let me hit on some of the little things that put it over the top for Beta
Looks Beta bikes are beautiful
Beta is a family owned company
Beta maintenance schedule is a little more lax.
Beta still has a carburetor I see both sides of that coin I have a 2014 WR 450f and it has fuel injection and it works great! But it is easy for me to work on no tuner needed for a Beta
Plus when I go riding I won’t look like all of my buddies riding the same orange bike.
Don’t get me wrong KTM,Husky,GasGas make great bikes, but if you ride a Beta especially in the tight nasty stuff I think you will like the beta better.
Love it dude
Thanks, mate!!!
Why not add a tiny bit of oil to your gas
Some people do that, about 200/1, but I don't think the fuel injectors were designed to work with gas as well in it. I could be wrong though
Drinking game: “from what I hear” = take a shot.
Seriously. Great content. Love the info. Sincerely….Thank you! 🤙🏼
LOL I got to quit doing one single take for these voiceovers and start to really plan them out. When I watch these back I can't help but think of what I'd rather say! That's RUclips videos though. You put anything out there and it's definitely not going to be perfect
That's also my way of trying to not sound like a know-it-all.
@@ThomperBeThompin don’t sweat it.
Really informative content. Thanks for putting this out there.
The bike is beautiful to enjoy it and congratulations...
Ktm “ready to race” expect you need to buy a skid plate
Yeah, they should consider modifying their marketing lingo!
KTM has a skid plate for that bike you just need to order it. They don't include them to keep the price competitive and they know no one cares and will order one when they buy the bike.
I have to wonder how many forest fires have actually been started by a non spark-arrested hike.
For real (although, I'd hate to be the one guy that actually starts one). I mostly got mine for the race series I partake in, but turns out they don't EVER check for spark arrestors even though they are "mandatory". Definitely not as much of a factor outside of the desert regions in the SW and the grasslands. That said, one dude did set about 50+ acres on fire here in WV with his truck a few years back - so, it can happen.
nice bike man
Sorry, but having to replace the oil injector on a 11-12K bike every time you do a top end is just unforgivable. The oil injectors on old Japanese 2T bikes lasted a lifetime.
It definitely sucks, but I've heard of guys with 300+ hours on their original oil injectors for these tpi bikes, so I think ktm might just be overly cautious and covering their butts
Where are you at? I'm a slower trail rider too and I am buying this bike in a week.
Right on man. I'm in VA. I race here and might try some hare scrambles in WV too.

Holy shit this comment took a turn
@@SS-gy1cx lol, just seeing this now. Whoa! Lol
Classic euro engineering .. a really great machine when it's all working .. but has some really basic flaws that just shouldn't be a thing.
Sry but that that fish eye lens makes it look goofy as hell lol
THE FUEL INJECTION HAS RUINED THESE BIKES. I HAD TO GO BACK TO CARB AND PUT MY TPI UP FOR SALE.
Beautiful bike but its a Rich man's hobby!!!
No kidding..pricey indeed
tusk, proudly made in china
Probably. But still decent quality!
10k for a bike that you have to put 2k in up grades
I unfortunately bought one of these pieces of crap.
The dealers cannot fix it and KTM will not cover anything under warranty even though it ran like shit from the 1st day.
I will never buy a KTM again.
I was warned I would regret it.
Mine is amazing I wouldn't dog on the whole brand I've had a shitty yz250 in 2019 I just so happen to get the bad one of the bunch shit happens
@@spypigeon8135 I agree 100%. Like any mass produced product there is bound to be a bad one that slips through out the door.
