Translation, Khabib is a better wrestler/grappler. Islam is better at striking/kicking/muay thai, and also very great at wrestling/grappling, but not at khabibs level at wrestling.

Islam is more well rounded, his striking is a lot better and more dangerous (Infact its elit) and his fighting style is a lot more slick and entertaining to watch.
(I mean he outstriked volk and poirier too).
Also his squeeze is otherworldly strong, the way oliviera immediately tapped before the submittion was even fully in and the way Poirier went to sleep immediately, suggest Islam's squeeze is super human strong...
But on the other hand khabib was just a force of nature, he was faster more explosive and stronger. And his grappling was more dominant.
They both are great and exceptional talents with different advantages.

He just used what was strongest and dominated everybody with it and sticked to that soley. (While being the very best with that skill)
That brought him a near unscathed professional career of 31 fights.
Islam on the other hand tries to mix it up with striking aswell. Just by the nature of this, he will always give his opponents a punchers chance to win, or even compete with him at striking.
It's like a Videogame Online Shooter, Khabib only used the Meta Weapon, while Islam tries out different weapons mixing it up.
Islam in turn is more entertaining to watch in my opinion because of this, which is a pro for the viewers.
Khabib was an anomaly, he really showed how strong a sole wrestling and submissions approach are in a 1v1 scenario. If you mastered that, you don't need anything else (as fsr as a professional mma fight in the octagon scenario). Truly a revolutionizer of the sport.
@@edwardelric5491his striking isn’t elite. His grappling threat is strong enough that it forces elite strikers to go down a level with hesitancy and then dropping their hands. It’s not like Islam would beat these guys in k1 or Muay Thai rules. He’s pretty good standing up but let’s not go too far.
Khabib's ground control is second to none, fight IQ overall along with using the boxing and high pressure with the knees and front kicks is simply superb.

@@Joes35 -the 1st fight with volk was very competitive.. which you can't say about any of Habibs fights. Habibs fight were pretty much One sided and the Second fight volk came at a 11 days short notice.
-Islam Was cut and bruised badly in two fights now. While Habib didn't even suffer a scratch. Reason is while true Habibs striking isn't as good but it isn't as bad as people think. He's unorthodox which is an advantage for him. Plus he makes up for his lack of striking skills with his evading skills and IQ.. his opponents rarely get a clean hit on him.

Poirier improved technically a little but he was older physically against Islam, plus he used a lot of wrestling techniques on Islam that he tried on khabib but failed, so Poirier for the most part used the same techniques. .
Khabib fought an absolute peak physically Poirier coming off a victory over max with his confidence at its all time high. And khabib still dominated him like he was nothing.
khabib has the more dominant wrestling and grappling style, but Islam is more talented and dangerous in the striking and jijutsu and he his a lot more entertaining to watch fight, and his wrestling and grappling is elit too but not on the level of khabib.

When Khabib fought the narrative was ' Khabib never stands with guy, he never takes risk, what would happen if he fought a top level wrestler , He should move up to 170 and show everyone who good he is , but he wont as he is sacred to lose' . Islam comes stands with guys he faces, beat a guy who has the most submissions in UFC history who no fighter wanted to go to ground with , Then fights the P4P fighter and stands with him , Fights him again and Koes him. Islam's striking offense is more technical and his clinch/sweep/trip game is crazy. Khabib never had those judo moves, but it's clear that his fight IQ, his striking defense, and his offensive grappling are much better than Islam's.
Islam has fought way better guys, including the version of Dustin that he fought, Islam fought prime Dustin, khabib fought an unprepared Dustin, khabib won his title against Al Iaquinta, then defended against a guy in Justin with zero jiujitsu, and McGregor back off a multi-year layoff, it's pretty obvious who is better.

Having ground control as early as round 1 we all know if its khabib it ain't going to 5. Either he make his opponent TIRED, ground and pound or finish there's no in between while dustin and volk just looks fresh the next round after surviving the round on the ground

People forget Khabib was the first to bring the high-pressure Dagestani wrestling style to the UFC, especially when the lightweight division was mostly strikers. Islam has faced and beaten some of the most well-rounded fighters in UFC history. By the time he fought Poirier, Poirier had already learned from his fight with Khabib and made significant improvements. Did you really think Dustin Poirier wouldn't analyze and improve after he lost his first championship fight?
Lw wasn’t mostly strikers lol. It was grapplers with good striking. Bj, dos Anos, franky, Eddie, Tony etc the list goes on we’re all folk style wrestlers or bjj guys that had good stand up but it wasn’t their base. It was why Conor’s run was so crazy because he didn’t have any ground game comparably to everyone else yet still dominated 45 and lw.
What Khabib brought was perfecting power strikes and effective strikes and neutralizing his opponent and draining them from every position in a grappling flow. Islam is too methodical but passive with his grappling allowing Dustin to do better defense and escapes. Khabib is just much better at it and is constantly barraging his opponents with fists and elbows, a rematch between them would be very much the same.

Islam has faced better competition and is a much more advanced striker. Khabib is the more dominant grappler, but Islam will have the better legacy when it's all said and done

He's getting hit, I would say his striking is MUCH BETTER, but khabib's stand up defense and take down ability is what makes up for his weird striking game, and his ground game is MUCH MUCH BETTER than islam's.
If we are talking about legacy, Khabib's legacy will not be surpassed by Islam because Islam himself is part of that legacy. To this day, Khabib is used as the yardstick to measure if someone is GOATed or not. And I am sure it will be the case for decades. Yes Islam will be more decorated than Khabib. More achievement might make you the best to ever do it. But the greatest to ever do it is a different notion.

Khabib has good top pressure whereas Islam is always looking for the submission once he’s taken you down they’re by giving opponents a chance to reverse and get up, he literally attempted an arm bar, guilly and darce in his last fight, that’s more submission variety than Khabib’s entire career. People need to learn that distinction.

Here's the thing: when asked who is the better Mixed Martial Artist fighter among Islam and Habib(meaning more well rounded), answer is Islam. But who wins between them? Habib!
Why? Just go watch the sparing video of Habib and Islam with Chase Saldate. Chase was able to take down Islam once while he wasn't able to take down Habib even once. Chase himself said that Habib is better than Islam. He is an Olympic wrestler, his opinion has more weightage than us.

Dana White Contradicts himself all the time Islam is the number one pound for pound fighter. Jon Jones is a great fighter but he fought cirly gane to get the heavyweight title and he was not the best it was Francis who had beaten him but he left the ufc. Plus he has technically never lost a fight but thats only because the judges gave a horrible decison in the reyes fight. He is a phenomenal fighter but at the moment islam is the pound for pound number one fighter.

They’re different. Islams skill set is more well rounded, while Khabib’s dominance is unmatched.
Islam is more complete. He’s more well rounded, has better striking and is more crafty with his submissions. If Option A (wrestling/grappling) isn’t working, he is effective at Option B.
Khabib is more dominant. His relentless pressure and pace were unreal. He was more successful in imposing his will on his opponents and never had to resort to Option B. Never cut, never dropped and never in any real trouble.
This show needs to talk about UFC fight nights, the time wasted to talk about the cancelled press conference or who’s best P4P can be shared to talk about Raul Rosas Jr, Imavov or something in those lines. I noticed something similar last time when the Tuesday and Thursday Shows failed to talk about the fight night, unless you tell me that this show is just for Superstars.

Having Khabib as a coach is pretty unique. Most coaches are in their 50s and retired 15 years ago, meanwhile this guy is still in his physical prime and can go 100% with everyone in the room to showcase what he’s teaching.
Funny thing is Khabib can walk into the cage at any point without prep and still beat anyone like Islam can.

Makachev is clearly a more advanced fighter than Khabib. Even the most jaundice MMA fan can see it clearly. He got more arsenals in his sleeve to end fights. He can dominate his opponent whether on feet or on the ground.
Tibau was off the roids against islam and pretty much old by that point. Khabib was young at 22 years old when he faced prime roided tibau who got caught for using peds a short while after fighting khabib. Prime khabib would have ragdolled tibau like all others. Tibau and Rda went toe to toe against each other and Khabib ragdolled Rda just a few years after fighting Tibau.

Islam is much more well rounded, but khabib shows how a killer mentality is so important. The next generation always improves on previous gen, but the original is always more highly regarded. In the end, makes no difference.

Islam has already beaten a higher caliber of opponents. Yes, this version of Dustin is also more advanced.

Everyone's too harsh on Islam. Islam is willing to fight riskier by standing up and grappling as he's trying to prove a point to try beat people in their game. Plus Islam's training for the broader skills means his wrestling isn't at khabibs level. Khabib played it safe, mastered wrestling and simply brought everyone into his wrestling space and destroyed them.
So you can't doubt Islam because the same fighters that went the distance with him did not with Khabib.
In a fight, Khabib would still beat Islam because he would take it straight to wrestling.
But if Islam keeps going like this, his adversities towards his victories will contribute more to his legacy, moreso than Khabib.

I think asking if someone is better is far more difficult than asking if they’ve accomplished more. Currently, Khabib has accomplished slightly more but Islam is very close. If Islam defeats Arman, and moves up to WW, to grab that title as well, we may have a new GOAT.
Regarding both fighters skills, it’s a tossup. Khabib has a more aggressive chain wrestling style. Islam’s is not quite so aggressive but he has slightly more crisp striking, as well as many different methods by which to land a takedown. His judo is exceptional.

Not even close imo. With the exception of the Tibau fight, Khabib looked invincible. On the other hand, Islam looks totally beatable. I think it's only a matter of time before he gets beat. In fact, Tsarukyan's more mature and experienced version may do it next.

I think the reason UFC don't announce back-up fighters is because at times, they're not actually the next contender, just a fun match-up or someone who is available and willing to cut weight for the sake of it. Take Gamrot for example, he was a back-up for Oliveria vs Makhachev and they ended up giving it to Volk...

Khabib got the most 10-8 rounds in fighting history and out of the 38 rounds he fought in the Octagon he arguably has never lost a round.
we didnt really get to see khabib challenged cause he retired early and then most of his matches were vs strikers with no wrestling so its tough to say who really is better. i think islam is more a complete fighter. But khabibs grappling was so dominant he got away with not being well rounded.
