    It's harder for their hair to look as voluminous, like Jasmine or Aurora's hair for example. Cartoons are drawn characters so it's easy to make their hair seem perfect and bouncy while I'm real life it isn't. I do like the changes they made for some of the characters, because the remakes are more of retellings and not an exact copy of the original. They changed their dresses and designs. Aurora'a intricate hair style actually suits her personality and it really is beautiful. Cinderella's is fancy and suited for the aesthetic. Mulan's is longer and curled which is prettier but I think the character is better off with short hair because its easier for battle. Jasmine's hair is hard to capture because it's so voluminous and long, if they just did the same hair style then it would look unappealing imo so they changed her hair into a more intricate style fit for royalty ( and varies her hairstyles! ), Belle's hair style is more varied and I actually like it except for the half up half down which seems too bland but hey the dress and Emma's portrayal is already a mess anyway. The only hair change that I don't like is Ariel, her hair should've been more red and I definitely prefer the original hair because it was so vibrant. Halle'a hair does bounce under water, I just wish they gave her more bangs which I think REALLY suits her.

      @Josh Richards yeah you have a point. Although I just have never seen anyone with such voluminous hair like the original jasmine for example. I think Emma's Belle is a waste though because I think they could've made her hair look better by making the bun bigger or something but her dress is already awful anyway and Emma doesn't want Belle to look 'girly' or 'too stylish' so ig they don't bother.

      Halle Bailey wanted to keep her locs since she’s always had that style for years. So a wig wouldn’t really fit bc of her long thick hair and the original hair of Arielle wouldn’t go with locs. Also really bright red wouldn’t go with Halle and also the movie is more toned down in the saturation because it’s REAL with real people and life-like ocean waters.

    Tbh the only one I care about is Mulan because wtf. She cut her hair short before going into battle, it was a whole thing and it was iconic, but they were just like "actually fuck you and everything you ever loved about this movie" then they curl it, which is just not reminiscent of her hair in the animation at all - she didn't even have crazy Disney princess hair, it was just black and straight. How do they fuck it up so bad?? That's just the hair, the whole movie could give me an aneurysm trying to talk about it. Horrible horrible horrible decisions and I'll never forgive them for it.

    • @cheapPixel
      @cheapPixel Год назад +927

      For Mulan, it was actually because cutting the hair was culturally inaccurate. No one cut their hair, not even the men, due to cultural and religious values. In fact, Chinese audiences actually had a negative reaction to the iconic scene as it displayed Western gender norms instead of Chinese ones. The creators of the live action stated that keeping Mulan's hair long was a way of sticking cloder to the cultural ties of the original poem.

    • @momouwu1937
      @momouwu1937 Год назад

      The production team that animated the film just used the idea of Chinese culture as an element but they neglected to research the culture in depth. Back in ancient China, cutting hair or beard was considered a taboo because it's believed that your hair was given to you by your parents. Hence by cutting your hair, you are hurting yourself and disrespecting your parents. Only nuns and monks who have cut ties with families and the society cut their hair and shave their heads.

But of you look at pinup girls, Dolly Parton, boufant hairstyles from the 50s, etc you'll notice that it's REALLY EASY to give hair cartoonish volume. This isn't some everyday style or a gritty crime drama- animated or not, it's a disney movie with wigs, colorful costumes, etc. Their hair doesn't have to be the most realistic or easiest to recreate. Like, bangs are so easy to give volume. Flat iron to curl and put on a big foam roller, hairspray, and you're done.
    For the rest of the hair, extensions can add volume, so can teasing the roots/underneath, etc. Worst case scenerio, use a wig. There's literally no excuse for a Disney-level budget movie to not add a little volume.

    I mean, the volume thing makes sense. The proportions of the animated characters are different and exaggerated hair suits them because it’s only semi-realistic. On an actual human, those same exact hairstyles would look strange. Just look at Disney princess wigs. There’s a reason they always look a little off.
    As for the style itself, it’s just a reflection of the time. Ariel’s extreme swoop bangs are very late 80’s/ early 90’s. Cinderella and Aurora are both 50’s girls and those curled bangs were fashionable at the time. Middle parts are in right now so the modern interpretations of the princesses reflect that.

      Lol that's not true. Disney's done it before. Look at their enchanted and 2015 Cinderella. The princesses in those movies had voluminous, fantasy-like hair that didn't look crazy. And even if they can't quite replicate it they can choose a slightly different hairstyle that still gives princess vibes like they did in Cinderella(turning her bun into a half up, half down). Disney could've done better, especially with the millions put into their movie, but simply chose not to.

    • @IUsedToBeAnAdventurerLikeYou
      @IUsedToBeAnAdventurerLikeYou Год назад +1

      @@madamchloe2655 I’m talking about specific hairstyles of the Disney princesses. Cinderella 2015 had wigs and voluminous hair, but the it wasn’t cartoonish. It was more natural looking. Ariel’s swoop bangs would be much harder to achieve on an actual human woman, especially in underwater scenes. I’ve seen wig makers create some gorgeous replica wigs, but they’re very heavy. As for Giselle, again, her hair was done with big beauty queen curls but she doesn’t wear that style for the whole movie. It’s not that big hair CANNOT be achieved, it’s that most actresses might not want to wear heavy wigs for extended periods of time and most human hair can’t reach that same level of volume without the help of hair pads and extensions.
      My point is only that more natural looking styles were utilized for the live action movies because the cartoon ones are designed for cartoon heads and bodies. Emma Watson made a fuss about the styling so maybe that’s why her hair looked so sad in the movie. I haven’t given Beaty and the Beast much thought because I didn’t like it and only watched it once.
      Personally, I don’t mind live action Ariel’s hair but I wish they had made the color redder. I

      @@madamchloe2655She’s right if people are saying they should try to match the hairstyles of the animated characters. It would 100% look stupid and fake. The hair for Cinderella looked good, but it wasn’t unrealistically huge or dramatic. Some of the hairstyles in Enchanted were weird, but a lot of them were supposed to be a little weird, because of the fact that Giselle and the Evil Queen come directly from a fantasy world. If Belle in the live action had this huge voluminous fancy hairdo at the start of the movie it would look laughably bad. Wanting more varied designs or braids is fine, but I don’t get the push for huge fake ass looking hair. If they did that, everyone would just start complains about how it looks fake or unrealistic anyway.

    It was originally supposed to be set in Baghdad, but because of the war that broke out with America they changed it to a fictional land "Agrabah". It's a Middle Eastern folk tale.
    They cast a white woman who is 1/4 indian. Not the same ethnicity or ethnic facial features or hair.
    Brown people are not interchangeable, brown cultures are not interchangeable.
    Because she was the first non white disney princess, all non white people identified with her, and thats great! But she is and was intended by Disney to be middle eastern, the architecture and the culture, colourful clothing etc represented is Middle Eastern culture, pre oppressive regime taliban. And yes I know she has a tiger, but tigers were once widespread across the continent and there are sadly many subspecies of tiger that are now extinct. One of these is the Persian tiger. Xxxx❤

The fact that they cast an Indian and Indian people think it’s an Indian movie because of the actress’s & a tiger & the castle resembles taj Mahal (because the writers are racist imbeciles - look at the Arabian nights song before they changed it… it was so rude-).. so stupid. It’s an Arab movie and an Arab story. Maybe if an Indian Disney movie comes, they should cast an Arab actress to make it fair.
