Wow! So, I had been taught this before by a world class sniper, but I so rarely shoot precision and with a bipod that I had forgotten this and seeing how well you explained it was a LIGHTBULB MOMENT for me of why have I not been doing this and even when I have noticed that I struggle with good and consistent shoulder to butt contact... thanks! You really do teach well!
Thanks, I was having a major problem with muzzle jump. I haven’t been able to shoot for a while like three years. So now coming back, this is been a great help.
excellent tutorial! I like the simplicity of how you explained the "bridge" and the importance of the OFF hand in conjunction with the rifle butt. And the importance of going more medial with the butt. I practiced this last time at the range and it is so much more comfortable to shoot and WAY less wobble zone! I could see the impacts ALOT easier due to staying more centered on target!
This actually really helped me! Ive been shooting s 270 win and have had trouble managing my recoil. I was hoping it was it just me not using proper form and technique. Thanks to this Ive been hitting my target with accuracy and consistency. Thanks a lot for the video!
Well, you just answered what none of my rifle shooting friends have been able to about my poor shooting. Thanks, definitely deserve the like and subscribe!
I had to work through the exact problem you are describing about putting too much cheek pressure into the bag and having the rifle hop left. Unfortunately, having no one wiser than myself to teach me, probably ended up costing a few K in ammo before i was able to really break out of that technique. Solid vid, good advice. Keep it rollin.
Excellent video. Thanks for taking the time to film and edit it and of course for positing it for our benefit. Keep up the good work! (wear ear protection next time!)-Migs
I use the same technique when I'm using a bipod and when I'm using my swagger shooting sticks that attach to my picatinny ill grab the sticks and pull the gun into my shoulder and lean down on my legs to build a base it makes the the shoot super steady using the sticks for when I coyote hunt and I'm in a chair. Very effective and nice video!
Kind of just stumbled across this video. I'm not a precision shooter by any means but I try. I don't have a rear bag so cup the stock with my support hand. At this point any tips are helpful so this video was gold.
Dude I need to train. I did the infantry thing so m4 for 10 years, got my first long gun. Went to zero it today. Got like a 3 moa with just run of the mill pmc 147 grain in 308. I felt like I was muscling it originally then I remembered watching this. Thumb on the outside use should load bipod into the lip of the rest. My issue was it was jumping towards the right.
New subscriber this morning ... Im a bow hunter most of my life and over the last two years got more into rifle hunting and of course , accuracy is important but ive been ok with " MOB" (minute of baseball ) lol , for me thats meat on the table ...But ive gotten more into precision and have quite a few good high quality rifles and optics and I do well but at times just cant find my comfort zone behind the rifle which levels some inconsistency ... So many tips out there but your video just clicks . Nice and simple ... For me bipods are great but i prefer over my bag being that when hunting (or defense ) i may have to drop and engage so Ill alway have a backpack/bag so I train that way , on occasion with a bipod but mostly bag so without being able to give forward pressure on a bag part two hits home . Both sections of this video somewhat took some of the fog out of my head so to speak . Im heading out today with a friend to do some shooting so i will employ these tips . Thanks for the vid !!!
Amen. This year my daughter began hunting with me. She began her Marksmanship with and Air rifle. summer 2021 she began live ammo. for her 14th she got her first 350 legend. she has an amazing aptitude for archery and shooting. luckily I have come across great skills and technique's like this. I pound that like and subscribed. Thank you Phillip. do you have any videos for shouldering and securing the rifle in a seated hunting blind
I know I’m really late to this video, (well done btw), but I do have a question on it: It looks to me as if your getting the center of your recoil pad right on top of your clavicle. That’s fine for man-bun chambering, 6.5 CM and similar but what if your putting rounds down range from cartridges like .308, ‘06, 300 mags, etc.? Wouldn’t take many of them recoiling into my collarbone for me to call time out. What am I missing in this shooting position?
thanks.. quick question.. @ the 2 min mark when your building your position in prone. and the rifle to should connection it looks like that recoil pad is on that that connects neck and shoulder? is it in soft tissue or actually against a hard bony contact point in the upper shoulder/neck area
That's awesome! This will work when shooting off a pack prone too? How are you not bliking after the shot? I wouldn't say I flinch but I definitely blink even dry firing.
Probably because Phillip has fired 100's of thousands of rounds and his body and brain are use to it. You should be able to not blink while dry firing. Work on that first. A few thousand repetitions should help.
Don't know if you will answer but on the last shot at 625 or whatever, it appeared to me that you said hold over but the scope view on the last target seemed to illustrate hold under...am I missing something? Using the mil lines above the center of the crosshairs would be hold under, as in for a closer range than what is dialed, no?
I started to shoot 308 and since I'm very skinny, I have a problem with shouldering in the shoulder pocket without pain and bruises. You seem to shoulder your rifle on your clavicle bone, correct?
Just wonder after you load the bipod, using your shoulder pushing forward gently, take the shoot, does the center of the reticle where you aim from your scope moves (either left or right)? This is what I am talking about: ruclips.net/video/isQiEsXNC_E/видео.html starting around 11:25 until about 13:00. The bipod doesn't seem moving by playing in slow speed. But I notice every shoots he took, the reticle jumps to the left or right bit. Does this also happen to you or something might be wrong? Thank you
Hi, I have a recoil problem. When im shooting prone, my recoil usually goes up to the left in a 45 degree. My body is square (shoulders, trunk and hips). The stock has contact with the collar bone. My head doesnt lean that much. I dont put much pressure with my cheek on the stock. I dont load the bipod but i use my shooting hand to pull the weapon into my shoulder. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Agreed. My lightbulb moment was when he said it's hopping off to the left which is typical for a right handed shooter.
Thanks for the great Info! Erik Cortina Sent me here!
Sooo glad I discovered this channel

I found this video looking for a good review on a Kahles. Didn’t get that. Got something better. Thanks man.
Solid advice. Thank you. Sometimes bad habits can creep in and this advice is a great antidote.
Awesome range and great tips for consistency of the connection with the rifle.
Thank you for the info on how to used your body instead of bag for stablerbilety and thank you for your service

Very clear and helpful
Erik Cortina was right, you do have great content! Subscribed. 👊
Awesome. Thanks Phil.
Very good lesson
I do not understand where you place the stock, if I put it on clavicula it hurst at each shot …
Did you find answer?
Eric sent me here and you just gained another sub.

good video; to the point and not very long thanks
Very good. Thank you
Very informative video thank you man
Thank you very much Idol 🙋♂️
The number one thing I take away from this video is that on the hard concrete surface THE BIPODS DIDN'T HOP! The gun tracked strait to the rear!
Semper Fi.. Just getting into the LR competition game.. Enjoying the videos.. Where do you train? Interested in a class
Well done brother man!!! 💯👍🤙🏁
great vid..cleared up some basic questions I had. subbed
Need to see you run a gas gun! Share what’s different, more difficult fundamentally, misconceptions etc. Great job Phundamental Phil! See you soon.

What stock is on this rifle buddy? Its beautiful!
Thank you
Thanks
Other instructors recommended loading the bipod forward. I will try both methods at 100 and 600 to see which method works best.
He loaded the bipod on the mat, but pulled it to the shoulder on concrete because it slides.
Nice video, very good info.
Thanks Gunny!
Great info, thanks. Also an EC refugee!
Good shit, Gonna try that Tuesday.

What am I missing in this shooting position?
“As medial as you can go” means as close to the middle of your body as you can go.
Do you rest your rifle on collarbone or below? Tnx.
On top of the collarbone.
I like that Squatch gong!
Awesome!
Hei Phil how do you train to keep your eyes open while shooting?
Witam . Mam takie pytanie czy mocno przyciskasz policzek do kolby i samą kalbę do barku ?
thanks.. quick question.. @ the 2 min mark when your building your position in prone. and the rifle to should connection it looks like that recoil pad is on that that connects neck and shoulder? is it in soft tissue or actually against a hard bony contact point in the upper shoulder/neck area
Awesome
What action are you running ? Couldnt help but notice how easy it was to run the bolt back and forth - gun never moved.
This doesn't look like the medial half of your clavicule though?!
What recoil pad ?
Amazing!!
so all the pulling of the rifle into the shoulder is done by the shoting hand, left hand is just for supporting the body and maybe little stabilizing?
Eric Cortina sent me, but you made me sub.
Great video!

I can't shoot with both eyes open yet. Can you make a video talking about this?
Thanks ! Good stuff ! I’m gonna build a bridge !
how did you like the gunwerks 8ight suppressor?
Great content, thanks for the referral Erik cortina.
How tall are those rings?!?
Thanks

I’m wondering the same thing.
Try lowering your chest to the ground. I think the stock contacts some of the trapezeus too.
Great video!!!
Good stuff 👍
is the butt suppose to partially be on your collar bone? when i get it real medial like that its not real comfortable on harder recoil
So what you're saying is... that you have complete control over the rifle?
Sweet
Love the real life lessons learned
Thanks for this video. Wasn't a scout sniper but, you're talking my language. USMC 2005-2009. Where is your class located?
I think he was teaching for Gunwerks at the time. Now Phillip is part of Modern Day Rifleman. (formerly Modern Day Sniper)
Came here from a.amantine, I'd love to see you guys on a hunt together!!!
Nice. TY!
Do you have any rearward pressure pulling with your dominant hand and if so how much should you pull in?
Pull weight as heavy as the rifle.
What shooting mat is that?
Just wonder after you load the bipod, using your shoulder pushing forward gently, take the shoot, does the center of the reticle where you aim from your scope moves (either left or right)? I doubt you can get the ideal group size. Your cheek weld isn't consistent.
Where’s your groupings?
How much is a gun like that?
$6,000

New subscriber great video thanks
Good to go
What caliber ?
6.5
👍
You look like you have been working out hard. Does the extra muscle mass help your shooting , or is it something you’re doing for you?
some of the best rifle shooters in the world are women. if you're using muscle, you're not using fundamentals.
Damn man 12" plate at 525
I bet this guy has seen people who have really expensive guns but cant hit jack and also those who have the bare minimum hitting targets are 300yds
I bet you take your face off the gun
Beautiful rifle. Wanna donate it to me? 😅
Subscribe d!
Oink
Which mat / pad is that on the floor?
👍
