Well he was overly arrogant plus he had no one to put him in check. Also Sam was able to fix the problems involving the gate radiation and teal'c stuck in the gate. That moved a bit of his arrogance towards respect for her.
He was very poorly written in SG-1 (because he wasn't intended as an actual 3D-character). Being arrogant and consistently wrong (plus creepy) is a bad combination. Atlantis puts it into perspective - he isn't arrogant, he just knows how smart he is while also being too insecure not to harp on it. Also, aside from finally being allowed to be correct, he shows other endearing traits.
sylvi753275 I just made a custom lighter with that quote on it!! I’m going to be carrying this lighter every day!! McKay is hands down my favorite character in Stargate Atlantis!! I wish it wasn’t canceled. I still watch this series and sg1!!
My most favorite rodney scene is this one. The episode they first encountered the genii and he and john got captured after they discovered the secret bunker. When rodney mentioned that maybe doors to secret bunkers are best to be locked i could not stop laughing
I would like to see David and Joe work together again in another series. They seem to do very well together. Maybe a new modern Sherlock and Holmes? Just saying! 😍
Rodney was too high strung and considered far too many things dangerous. Like he worries about microbs and dieseases whenever he eats something, despite loving to eat. Unlike air which it can filter it couldn't filter out stuff like that Basically because they read their thoughts/feelings of the user Rodney is far far too panicy for it's calibration. Lucius is too self serving to care about anything but direct obvious threats
If you made a list of what you are afraid of, dehydration would probably be very low on the list, because that is someone not living in a desert region thinks could ever happen to them. The reason the shield does not turn off, because Rodney has so many other things he is more afraid of, especially in an unexplored alien city in a hostile galaxy. Ifhe became so dehydrated that it tops all his other fears, the shield would probably turn off.
Zwordsman I never actually thought of that idea. My theory was that the device was brought to Atlantis because it was malfunctioning, and needed to be recalibrated in one of her labs. I also theorize that the shields were created for Ancient infantry to make it more difficult for the Wraith to feed on them, or shoot them with tracking devices. Basically, the fastest way to bring down those shields would kill the soldier outright anyways, leaving nothing to feed on. There also should have been one of each on every starship and outpost for every crew member, again, so the Wraith could not feed on them.
in stargate sg1 i thought Rodney was a pain in the ass :P but after seeing him in SGA i gotta say he is without doubt the coolest person in stargate history :P
They could have easily got Rodney perked up while he was laying on the table with the arrow in his gluteous maximus.... just give him a lemon/lime/orange/grapefruit. He should perk right back up.
@metabog ikr! They should of taken the money they put into SGU and made a movie of SGA, SGA is by far the best Series I have ever seen. SGU ended so terribly, leaving questions unanswered and since it was cancelled they will never be answered, If i had a fortune to spend, It would go to funding the SGA movie.
but u noticed how a character that began their life in sg1 who went to atlantis, such as rodney and woolsey... were twats in sg1 n got more likeable in atlantis (except for mayjor lorne) and i noticed landry was ok in sg1 but got portrayed as fairly twattish in sga. but sam didnt... though she was less science genius and more background woman. she wasnt herself. ok i no rodney is head scientist but she barely helped him, even in the majorthings. she is cleverer than him so she shud have done
Makes one wonder how many brilliant mathematicians, physiologists, astronomers and other scientists can actually kick your ass! Oh they may have been awkward with girls when they were 15 but they do have a tendency to figure out what is needed to challenge the existing paradigm. That includes a fight!
TBH Rodney Mckay was the reason I watched SG, tried SGU, booooorrrrrinnnnngggg. no likeable charcters at all. despite being totally self absorbed, arrogant and horrendously conceited, he's soo likeable. he reminds me of me, lol
When Rodney picked up the cup but couldn't drink that was a plot flaw since going by that premise he should not have been able to pick up the cup and should not be able to breathe either
The shield does very much discriminate between different substances (a lot of shields in Stargate do) and it would seem that the shield can also generate traction (otherwise he wouldn't even be able to walk). He could probably drink without any problems if he knew how to properly control ancient Tech
I used to hate McKay in SG-1, but in Atlantis he became the most awesome character.
Well he was overly arrogant plus he had no one to put him in check. Also Sam was able to fix the problems involving the gate radiation and teal'c stuck in the gate. That moved a bit of his arrogance towards respect for her.

The wonders of character development...
The power of context
Yes had a lot of character growth
David Hewlett, talented enough to play 2 different characters at the same time and done so flawlessly.
honestly he is the main reason Atlantis was so good.
TheRumChum was here, neat!
He was good as a girl..
0:20
"using power, using power, using power"
hahahaha xD
And T-1000 in background :)
"I'm Dr. Rodney McKay, alright? Difficult takes a few seconds; impossible, a few minutes."
-McKay
sylvi753275 I just made a custom lighter with that quote on it!! I’m going to be carrying this lighter every day!! McKay is hands down my favorite character in Stargate Atlantis!! I wish it wasn’t canceled. I still watch this series and sg1!!
Side note: David Hewlett based McKay on coworkers of his from his time working IT for a voicemail company.
My most favorite rodney scene is this one. The episode they first encountered the genii and he and john got captured after they discovered the secret bunker. When rodney mentioned that maybe doors to secret bunkers are best to be locked i could not stop laughing
I loved all the episodes with him and his sister.
Played by David’s sister
Best character on that show, period.
The most annoying in my opinion
I liked both these comments.
6:00 I love that part!
"OMG that's my ass isn't it?" XD
One of my favorite episodes
McKay rules! :D
my fav character on SGA. but my favorite Mckay moment is when he's freaking out in the gate room after returning from 6:48
3:58- 4:45 was the best of McKay. A lady was stuck inside of him and controlling his body.
Yeah and it was worse for him when she was helping with the bomb. Still do not think this foreshadows her being a Goa'uld...
I would like to see David and Joe work together again in another series. They seem to do very well together. Maybe a new modern Sherlock and Holmes? Just saying! 😍
Such a talented actor!
I fell off my chair, for real hahahhahah
I am in love with rodney.
In High School my physics teacher was exactly Rodney. Looks, personality, obsessions, everything. it was amazing. Said "let's get jiggy with it" a lot
0:27 - I hear this when people leave lights on around the house.
Awesome! The first RUclips video I've seen that doesn't have a dislike! ACE!
2:47 Great, just gimme a second to woooohhh! 🤣
Love John's expression at :42.
So the wraith in the cryotube at 4:45 is me when I see a spider
3:10 What a phenomenon.
My "all time favorite hero" from the SG franchise!!!!
Hah that scream 5:47
Onemaster I prefer the scream at 2:49 myself.
RodneyisGodney That one's good :D
Onemaster it gets me every time I see it.
Using Power using Power.. lmao
Wonderful job. Rodney... simply the best. In SGA, that is.
McKay is so lol. He's my favorite character in Stargate xD
Rodney being Mood for 9 minutes.
2:01 i miss Ford
I miss Peter more
Yeah.. I really expected him to show up again honestly, like pop in once per season sorta thing. but be sent back to Earth for rehab
fantastic McKay !
In the episode where mckay has the shield on he can't drink, but when lucius has one he can, whats up with that?
Rodney was too high strung and considered far too many things dangerous.

Brilliant man!
Duet - Season 2 episode 2/3/4, unsure which one. It's REALLY good! One of my favourites actually.
Duet was 2:4, I really enjoyed the game and tao of rodney in terms of humor. Funny how they revolve around mckay.
"yay! paper beats rock !"
BRING BACK STARGATE ATLANTIS!
Every stargate best of is partially a jack o neill best of
in stargate sg1 i thought Rodney was a pain in the ass :P but after seeing him in SGA i gotta say he is without doubt the coolest person in stargate history :P
But now he has a pain in the ass ^^
David Hewlett, does fear better than any other actor I've seen.
Anyone else miss the days when the SyFy channel use to show cool shows like this instead of shit movies like sharknado? No? Just me? ok.
agreed
Yes! Stargate, Farscape, Lexx..... ah, the good ol' days.
I cut the cord when they took this show off and replaced it with wrestling.
Sg-1 is on Netflix, really wish they'd bring Atlantis was on it too
7:47 "Eyes, yes"
Never give Rodney McKay a gun. He doesn't know how to use it.
Well he learns pretty quick
They could have easily got Rodney perked up while he was laying on the table with the arrow in his gluteous maximus.... just give him a lemon/lime/orange/grapefruit. He should perk right back up.
What episode is the first clip from? are these in chronological order?
huh.. I do not remember the one around 7:11 where Rodney Kicks ass..
Was the episode where ford and his people high on the enzyme kidnapped them
the last scene, from which episode it was?
How do you accidentally eject the magazine? That seems like something you would be hard-pressed to do unless you wanted to, maybe even then.
McKay was terrible with weapons. I'd kinda expect the gun to just come apart in pieces with him using it!
00:32 🤣
What episode is 1.40 to 2.00?
Where is 7:04 from??
What I've never understood is if he's unable to drink the coffee how the hell was he able to pour it into the cup in the first place?
I'm glad that I'm NOT the only one who wondered that🤓🤓
Because he was grabbing objects seperate from his body?
What episode is the bit around 7:00 from?
Season 2 episode 11 I think. It’s when they get captured by Ford
cnt remember the exact ep..but it later in season1
What episode is 2:18 to 2:40?
you have an arrow in your gluteus maximus lol Oh Rodney, yes, your're funny and annoying :)
What episode is at 2:22?
Oh hi, Worth.
seasong 1 episode 12 - The defiant one
what episode is at 6:00? lol!
ROFL 6:00 i laughed for 10 mins when i saw that episode it was so funny! :D

The Defiant One

At 3.19, this is actually from cube.
seasong 3 episode 14 Tao of Rodney
Makes one wonder how many brilliant mathematicians, physiologists, astronomers and other scientists can actually kick your ass! Oh they may have been awkward with girls when they were 15 but they do have a tendency to figure out what is needed to challenge the existing paradigm. That includes a fight!
i miss this show so much its not even funny
oldnotweak you should get it on DVD that's what I did
same, watching it again now, just into season 3 ep16. shame they didnt make the movies as planned
5:54
TBH Rodney Mckay was the reason I watched SG, tried SGU, booooorrrrrinnnnngggg. no likeable charcters at all. despite being totally self absorbed, arrogant and horrendously conceited, he's soo likeable. he reminds me of me, lol
Do you realize you made a pun? :)
Season 1 Episode 5
seasong 3 episode 4 Sateda
click 0:33 repeatedly. enjoy.....
McKay was gender-fluid before it was cool xD
That my ass isn't it...?
These would be funnier if you left them in context.
@georgianpornostyle OK,STOP SHOUTING!
shepard and mckay are the same person just one is military and one is a scientist. by that i mean childish.
McKay is the most annoying in my opinion
I think rodney wasnt funny at all. I liked jack o neilss tasteless jokes. Rodney is annoying.
When Rodney picked up the cup but couldn't drink that was a plot flaw since going by that premise he should not have been able to pick up the cup and should not be able to breathe either
