- This game is harder to play if you live in North America and own a PlayStation 2! When the game was originally localized for North America, Dante's attacks were reduced by 20%, while the amount of damage he took from regular enemies was increased by 20%. Because of this artificial difficulty change by Capcom, Devil May Cry on the PlayStation 2 in North America is the hardest version of the game available.

This is actually true. Also, Devil May Cry 3 Dante's awakening's normal mode is actually Japanese hard mode by default. Its crazy that they made the games artificially harder like this.
Ah that's why I got absolutely destroyed before unlocking easy mode
Shit that explains why it was so damn difficult
Why did they do it?
and I platinumed this game
@@doc1192Because the game was too easy
Devs had wwii flashbacks during production and needed some type of revenge
💀
Actually at that time japanese where brainwashed like a rat .
Niggasaki 💣
Have a look at the experiments they did on Chinese civilians. If you were in one of those units you’d have been BEGGING for a nice stay at a concentration camp
@@iamajustababa2000s kinda crazy how majortiy of people in Japan barley know what they did during WW2
Dmc4 Fun fact, the achievement for clearing bloody palace as Trish is called “filled with light.”I hope you get the reference
Missed opportunity to call it "Filled with LIIIIIIGHT"
I was supposed to.. Not ever finish that sentence
Hilarious
WE'RE FILLING UP THE DARK SOUL WITH THIS ONE
That mean n America better player than other countries 😂
I had a nervous breakdown fighting Nelo Angelo and now I have the Japanese to blame
Just use Shotgun and use hiding spot choke points.
This video lied it was only dmc3 that got this treatment
@@LeeSong325 no it wasn't bruh
I'll never forgive the Japanese!
Sukiru isshu
Wow. Well I’m proud of my child self for beating the game so many times back then!
What form of power is this?!
Seriously. We were OP 😂
Yessir
Damn so I'm better at the game then the Japanese 😅
@@mr.curtis6730 the NA vers?
Duh
I actually just finished this game a few days ago. That’s insane! Thank you for the information.
Also it’s crazy. I used my dad‘s PlayStation two because we were not spending $200 on a disk. So I guess I was in a pretty big disadvantage
That explains why nightmare was a fucking nightmare to deal with
That explains why fighting the Shadow cat is much easier now than I remember lmao.
When I played this on the Ps2 I almost could never get past it
Capcom: Felt cute. Might increase the artificial difficulty for the western players later.
i get the reference
You always see games get easier when they are localized. It's interesting to see it go the other way for once
So basically DMD.
Devil may die
I think he means basically “Dante Must Die” mode like most of the series, but I have beaten that mode on PlayStation 2 first game 😅… I die like in 2 hits a lot of the times in that first game high difficulty 😂
I believed it took me near 90 hours in its self to clear Dante Must Die as a whole! 😎
I was 5 years old when my dad owned a playstation 2 around 2008-9 and one of the games that he would always play all I remembered was a guy with a sword with white hair and a red robe and I always wondered what the game was until I grew up and found out he was always grinding on devil may cry
Good childhood memory it seems.
based father
Wow, I thought it was just DMC3 that had the increased difficulty in America. I would like to play these versions but I live in the UK so...
In DMC 3 the difficultly was just shifted up one, so just play hardmode on the special edition and that’ll be the same
Bro I beat dmc 3 on my ps2 a few days ago it’s hard for me man
You could always emulate them and use the NTSC versions
You guys have it all wrong. The game itself wasn’t more difficult but at launch it only had Normal and Hard difficulties. Along with having no checkpoints, and with the fact that gold orbs were the only source of checkpoints during a mission. Because of that you couldn’t have a check point so you’d cherish your gold orbs for dear life(since they were very rare) so in short no the enemies weren’t any harder it was just more intense since one death and the mission was over lol. They later realized no check points was far too punishing and later created the Special edition which added a easy mode and actual checkpoint system along with more items spawning through the level. I actually beat the original DMC3 version on PS2 when I was like 12 and it still remained one of the hardest games I’ve ever played for those reasons.
@@ashtondillard6906Umm I played the original version of DMC3, there was just Yellow Orbs.
No wonder Normal mode was so difficult on the PS2. I used to get owned, but on the PS3/4/Switch versions I fly through it.
That must explain why it's so difficult on the harder modes.
this increase only happens in normal and hard mode, dante must die is unchanged
@Detz4ano proof no truth
WELL THATS WHY! I HAD SUCH A RIDICULOUSLY HARD TIME IN THE ORIGINAL!
I remember playing dmc1 on ps2, great times
Me too, in ps2 too. R u gonna replay it again? Or do u wish to have the remake of dmc1?
Probably one of the reasons DMC2 is basically a third-person-shooter.
That explain why I could not kill that big red spider when I was a kid.
My cousin said the best way was to use the guns against his back, but you never knew when he was gonna use his tail so you needed plenty of healing stars
This game is so hard even a devil may cry
Fun Fact: There was and is no Gold Orbs in the third, just Yellow.
I loved the game series so much, do more.
I played the first 3 dmc on ps2 as a young man and have t played one since then and decided to try and platinum dmc 5 and its been a wild ride im currently working my way through s ranks on dmd i s rank each mission and dont move on till it's done so im finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. Only 25 more s ranks
DMC 1 on the ps2 was my first DMC gane
I swear i wasn’t tripping when this game first came out shit was hard as heck on normal mode
Still beasted it
This was one of the first videogames i ever played, and i find this out now? Lol
My sister bought me the strategy guide with this game when it first came out. It definitely helped a bit. I was determined to unlock Super Dante and spent days struggling through Dante Must Die Mode to achieve my goal. When I finally beat it my exhaustion out weighed my excitement.
Great, now I've gotta beat the ps2 version on DMD as well.
I remember feeling so content when i beat Devil May Cry. Then i started the replays and memorized everything
Whenever playing DMC, I turbo my fire button because I don't want carpal tunnel. Also on the NA PS2 version of DMC3, cerberus will always be locked to DmD die to I don't fuckin' know.
My boy Dante getting ripped off
Well that makes sense why i had so much fun playing 1 and 3. I kinda dig it that way tbh. I couldn't tsay how many times i used to beat dmc 1 and 3 back to back like its no bodies bossiness. id give my left kidney to experience those games for the first time again.
I should’ve been there to fill your dark soul LiGhT (LiGhT LiGhT)
No wonder i didnt bother playing this as a kid. Also cause i was scared to death whenever sound cue for enemies popped up
dmc mfs when they don't see a mode harder that dmd:
To quote Joseph Joestar. "I'll never forgive the Japanese".
So your telling me, my suicidal thoughts from fighting mundus was just a prank by japan😊
So you’re telling me beating it on Dante Must Die in North America on my PS2 was harder than other countries….. damn bro
Beta testers in north america said it was too easy
So beating it on DMD was a real feat.
Those camera angles giving me PTSD "where the fuk am i?"
Thats the point of getting a game to play
It makes us rejoice when we kick nelo angelo’s and mundus’ @$$€$
The joy of victory is priceless !!!
My favorite game ever
That explains why I beat normal mode on the pc so easily
I SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONE TO FILL YOUR DARK SOUL WITH LiiiIiiight
It's also incredibly hard due to the awful change to the button layout in the NA release
Bruh no wonder why when I first play it somehow the normal enemy dude more damage. Especially that Scissors ghost.
Bro this game gaslight me into thinking I was trash at 10 years old, and years later I still had trouble with it
Ah yes that would explain why TF Nelo Angelo was no difficult on dante must die mode, like wtf if he combos you once it's over
I had this version, god it was a pain back then...
Insert Joseph: “I’LL NEVER FORGIVE THE JAPANESE!”
i play USA version, now i know why the game feel hard
this is true for Devil May Cry 3 Dante's Awakening
I'm an Asian myself but I have tiny dumb mind that I couldn't even complete the very first level in DMC1 and got stuck and lost in it forever
when i was a kid after unlocking sparda my strategy was to beat the game on normal 4 times in a row stocking up on yellow stars & holy water then taking on dante must die mode it wasn't that hard i just needed this items for Nightmare, the Goat Reaper, & shadow
Wait so i wasnt tripping out.
When i was a kid this was one of the hardest games ever
do u know the in CTR on ps1 if u use a cheat code u can unlock a character called: Penta penguin, but only in American version of the game he have all the stats maxed.
This is actually true for most early gen Capcom games.
So this is why younger me had so many breakdowns.
Dmc 1 kinda easy when I play it on ps2 only die from first bird boss and final nelo Angelo
I was wondering about this when I was playing the HD Collection, glad I’m not crazy
I actually saw this in action on boss fights. The PS2 looked and is much harder.
Sounds like a challenge to me
You sure that's DMC1? Sounds like DMC3, but I could believe both
20% may not seem like much
But you gotta play it tk understand how different it is
Yeah DMC3 is basically Elden Ring on the PS2 but with hack and slash stylish combat
DMC3 doesn't reuse bosses.
@@plantplayer303 I mean it kinda does lol
@@billyboleson2830 vanguard is a mini-boss, and i don't count Vergil because all of his fights are well designed, fun, tough, important to story and improves with player.
This is now my excuse as to why I never finished it
This makes me feel so accomplished because I only had the ps2 version back then and beat it.
No wonder why it felt like the HD remaster was easy in comparison. 😅
Interesting I never felt the difficulty playing it before. Nice little fact thanks.
That's f*cked up but challenging
No matter, still being a good game and easy to me but, jump with triangle is strange.
and most of us beat this version of the game when we were kids or young teens
Makes sense why I quit. It just stopped being fun at Mission 20
That makes sense. I can't even change the difficulty for 1. Kinda takes away replayibility.
Probably why I never beat it as a kid
That sounds really hard because the yellow orb system in itself was a hard system
That's fine I like the challenge makes you wanna get good 😂
Devil may cry 1 PS2 version is hard af, i finished Dante Must Die and i felt the pain of taking 1 month to kill Nightmare on mission 20.
Was hard but REALLY HARD to do it, and i dont even go talk about Nelo Angelo (Vergil) on Mission 17.
So this is why I keep dying
Ahh no wonder I sucked at the game.
I was over here thinking I was the problem.
Holy shit, so thats why i couldnt pass cerberus when i played in the ps2
I didn’t know that! I wonder if the difficulty was harder for the European PAL version too!
My brother beat this game three times. No wonder i couldnt beat it and the enemies felt so tanky.
Ironically now Americans love the difficulty
No wonder why I've always got my ass kicked in the game. Wouldn't help the fact that I try to beat the game even in normal difficulty... As a child.
Dark souls players: meh give me something harder then this.
I still beated all Dmc
games
Well... That explains a lot.
So as a kid... I was a badass!
No fucking wonder I struggled so damn much...
Wow I had no idea! You guys had a HARD time! 😂
I played that version and thought it was just my skill issue~
.... So then...my frustration as a kid is because Capcom decided to fuck out little minds XD
What if you live in Australia PS2 and own the original game?
Well that makes sense
imagine playing it on dmd.....
That makes so much sense now...
LAUGH IN EUROPEAN XD !
Ah. They knew we had first hand experience.
