- A remarkable initiative, 'Project Cheetah', took off in 2022 with a goal to bring back extinct cheetah population. They brought in twenty cheetahs from Namibia and South Africa, which sparked debates worldwide. A glimmer of hope shone when 'Siyaya', a cheetah, gave birth to four cubs in March. Sadly, things took a downturn as nine cheetahs passed away, raising serious concerns. Was asked about the origin of the name of the word Cheetah
Great video. You showed naturalist Valmik Thapar at 1:02. I didn't watch this interview, but watched another one he had given to Sarah Jacob at NDTV when these cheetahs were brought to India. He had mentioned various reasons why it was a bad idea. A key reason among them was African cheetahs need African Savanaah type grasslands, which have vast open grassland type spaces. Kuno national park with it's forest was never a suitable habitat.
Indeed this whole thing was a giant PR exercise and these cheetahs are paying with their lives.
I'm an animal lover and I truly feel their pain, if the problems mentioned in the video are resolved we can see amazing spikes in these animal's breeds and project can be a success❤
