I test drove both the 30i and M40. Really thought I would prefer the M40 but I really didn’t like the extra weight at the front. It lost all of its agility and felt like a muscle car rather than a sportster. I spent the extra money on a well specked 30i. One other thing to mention is the fuel economy or lack there of with the M40. Quite a substantial decrease which adds up! Great video by the way!
I agree with your assessment and followed the exact same path. Ignored the 30i for two years after the M40i test drive. On a whim I test drove the 4 pot and fell in love with it.
Just sold my MX5 and am looking to buy the 30i. I test drove a 20i a few days ago without any packages. Very comfortable place and convinced me to buy a second hand Z4, but a 30i with a number of packages. Thanks for a great and more informative than other videos. 👍

I have owned outright a Jaguar iPace HSE for near enough 3 years now and the infrastructure and relability of those that DO work has lead me to decide to return to an ICE...and in particular the Z4. I have watched your video sooooo many times now and I had decided to buy a 30i version, Thats until I watched your M40i video and arranged a test drive for next week on a nearly new one. Then I saw the weather forecast for the UK 1st week in December and thought I must be mad to go for ANY convertable. Then I read davidgarrad's comment below so reverted to the 30i. Pity as you were having so much more fun in the M40i.
Thank you for this excellent review. As someone considering 4 cylinder vs 6, your review was extremely helpful. You’ve got me leaning to the 30i for greater balance and good suitability for how I would be driving this car. The significantly reduced cost of entry doesn’t hurt.
I'm probably wrong, but I think I listened to another video and it stated that once you use Launch Control, you have to wait one hour before using again. If that is correct, then that might have something to do with your concern about it not working sometimes. You discussed at 17:11 mark. Anyone feel free to correct me about this.

Very sleek car. Just bought a new 2023 Z4 SDrive 30i. White with a Black top. Sharp…and quite zippy.

If a roadster’s natural habitat is neither a highway nor a track, then what’s the use of all that power? (In the m40i for example)

I assume the 6 cylinder is more reliable than the 4. The 4 would have to work harder than the 6.
This does not seem accurate at all. The car is light and the 4 banger has enough power that it is not labored.
