i just smoke them, the only thing i do differently then most people i know is after i clean the bowl out i use some of the ashes just put my thumb over top and give it a shake, i think wood is wood, as long as you dont sit there hot boxing it like a locomotive it should be totally fine, i would go so far as to say how you pack your pipe (how you pack all your pipes) is more important than breaking one in, my buddy tried pipes, but couldnt listen, wouldnt do how i showed him i do it, he had a horrible time, always packed it to tight, always had a hard draw, and always was setting it down cuz it's to hot to even hold, he quit smoking pipes, it's not for everyone, some folks are just to fast imo, pipes are slow, smoking a pipe is slow, if your in a hurry ..dont light a pipe, i dont even reach for my pipe unless i know i have an hour where i can enjoy it. for me, it's not something i need to do (smoke a tobacco pipe) and since i do09nt "need" it when i want to have it, i'd like to enjoy it, so i wait until i can. ive never broken in a pipe before, i just pack them how my grandpa showed me, sometimes it goes out, gramps said, that happens, he said "just relight it"
Thanks for a great video on breaking in a pipe. I've used honey by itself, now I want to try the honey and bourbon mixture next time I have a new pipe to break in.
I’m traveling for work now and no longer have a permanent address. We went down from a 3000 sq foot home to what will fit in two cars. Unfortunately, this lifestyle situation makes it tough to make videos. I truly appreciate the kind words.
Hey there great video! Would there be a lot of residual whiskey and honey flavors thereafter? I don't particularly enjoy aromatics but will put up with them to get a good cake!
First off, thank you for the kind word. The first couple of puffs might be slightly noticeable. Given the sugar content of honey and whiskey it carbonizes and burns off pretty fast flavor-wise. It mostly helps form cake. One could skip this step, as I said in the video. Really at the end of the day cake formation just takes time smoking the pipe. I have noticed this just “seeds” the bowl a little and gives a nice start to forming cake. Any flavor passed on vanishes pretty quickly. Pipe smoking is subjective in most respects. This is my opinion only to be fair.
There is one thing that you are not wrong about. Yes it makes no difference. I am saying this after 25 years of pipe smoking. I did it all. It’s just bs.
Best break in new pipe video on YT ! Thanks for sharing!
This was incredibly useful! Thank you!

“Nothing about pipe smoking is rocket science.” That’s why we all do it!
I've heard of the Honey method. Like you incorporated the Bourbon.

When you say “hot” what temp are you talking about? What sort of feeling in the hand? Thank you for making a great video
Would like to see more of that bamboo pipe! Pretty cool. What is it lined with?
pipe mortar. plaster of paris, activated charcoal, salt, and water
Isn't thermodynamics part of both rocket and properly smoking a pipe...
Great video ❤
