He said Lebron james, not michael jordan
and he was wrong.
@@KevinM491how was he wrong? for every kid that is now in the NBA and has trash talked him there are hundreds of thousands that never even got to play top level NCAA Basketball let alone made the NBA. A few exceptions don't negate his quote.

I truly believe she should have stayed in IndyCar, or at least stay in the lower NASCAR divisions until she was actually ready. Her teams did her no favors, her sponsors did her no favors, and she did herself no favors.
Me too, I truly believe she might be the only woman to ever win the Indy 500, or at least the first.
I think Dan Wheldon (her close friend) died in her last race probably put her off open wheel racing for life.
She moved to NASCAR the same year Indy had revised driver wight ballast rules. Her dominance was due to her lower weight and that adantage had just been removed.

Scalabrine gave one of the most legendary post-game interviews of all time. It was after the Celtics had just won the finals, and the interviewer asked him if he felt like a fraud for being on the team and winning a ring while never stepping foot on the court.
He said, "You can say now that I didn't play a second, but in 5 years you guys are gonna forget. In 10 years I'll still be a champ. In 20 years I'll probably tell my kids I started, and in 30 years I'll probably tell em I got MVP so I'm not too worried about it." The guy is a legend.

I was not ready for the revelation that they fed her like 50 cars.
At this point in the video i Wouldnt be surprised if I got told shes ejecting out of them and calling them down from orbit like titanfall multiple times a race
@@getthegoons You need to remember that patrick was a household name for a while. Even if she didn't win, she made people a LOT of money.
@@harrylane4 50 fucking cars tho
@@getthegoons They'd feed her 100, she was a money printer. For as much as people complain about WNBA and how they should only get the money they bring in... well Danica is the other end of the argument. People hated that she was a subpar Nascar driver and were angry that she was paid so much and given so many chances... well it's because she brought the MONEY.
She may be the reason the team was able to afford to properly fund the other drivers on the team. Obviously it was already a good and well funded group BUT they reason they were well funded is because of making smart decisions like hiring Danica. She may not be a good Nascar driver, but in the game of MoneyBall she was a dominant player.
Danica is a big what-if in NASCAR and IndyCar. She could have been (and quite frankly was) a superstar in IndyCar. She could have won multiple races in the IndyCar Series. Hell, had she stayed in Xfinity, she could have been a race winner there. But she was rushed to Cup, partly due to GoDaddy's sponsorship and partly due to how marketable she was.
I agree with this. not all of it was her fault, but some of it was.
That's not partly, that's the only reason. She's extremely marketable and Smoke is happy with that money coming in.
@tescoshortage, what's your success in pro-level motorsports racing, PUTZ?
that's the thing, like shane from buzzfeed once said sky is for men, in the amelia earhart docu, to be honest if mens Us team in FIFA can beat the 4 time FIFA womens world cup team us women in three games with overall score of 24-1 then this is why nascar is for men, and only men, witch is why women will not have that luxury like men, there not good, same with hallie deegan
Define superstar please. Did she draw massive attention, yes absolutely. She did her entire career, even in NASCAR. Was she a consistent threat to win, no NEVER, and not at any level. She wasn't even a consistent threat to finish in the top half of the field at the top levels.
Her dipping out of Indy Car was a lifetime mistake of epic proportion...
Maybe. Depends whether you want a legacy or a big wallet....or purse I guess.
@@sunnydlite-t8b She was the single most marketable driver on the market. If she actually stayed and WON in Indy like she genuinely had the potential to do the sky would have been the fucking limit for both tbh.
And she still never ran into a jet drier under caution.
Her ego wouldn't allow her to stay away from NASCAR commercials and exposure. Fox was broadcasting all her commercials and following her every move and no matter how much she failed it was obvious that's all she cared about. Calendars, soft core porn ads, Puff daddy racing commercials...She grew up in Rockton IL 20 miles from me. Should have stayed with Aaron. They are both crazy egotistical jerks.
@@ezone913 or went under a tractor at speed while going off track
The problem with Danica was that she spent more time and energy building her brand than she did on honing her on-track skills.
Very true. I can't condemn her for it, though. I mean, when you go from "I don't know if I'll ever get another gig in racing" to "the world loves me and sponsors are truckloading money to me for doing events and commercials", the racing probably tends to take a back seat.
She's a unique case. She's almost more "a celebrity who races cars" than "a race car driver who became a celebrity".

Money is one hell of a drug
Y’know if she wasn’t down there throwing helmets, waving angry fingers, and picking fights I could feel sorry for her. But there’s nothing worse than a driver who can’t compete who also has a bad attitude.
This^^^ Exactly!
It's funny, I didn't know any of this (I am not any kind of race fan, really) but I was something of a Danica-hater, because all I really knew about her was that she was super overexposed and also that she seemed incredibly unpleasant whenever she wasn't supposed to just stand there and look hot. It only took a month or two of that for me to just desperately never want to hear from her again.
My dad used to work with her. She’s unpleasant.
@@tommygriffith9594 Just watching her in Nascar as a fan told me this is the truth.

Does Anyone Notice I Crash Alot... DANICA.
Well, NASCAR is simple. You go fast and turn left. Unless you're number 10, in which case you turn right.
All of these crashes she’s in reminds me of the family guy joke, “how much signal I need to cut across 8 lanes? None? I turn now. Good luck everybody else!”
That cartoon got Denny Hamlin sent to NASCAR charm school.
That's how stereotypes build up. One person says it, often as a "joke," and then everyone notices every instance it applies and ignores the ones where it doesn't.
@@thedemolitionmuniciple And you can undo all this by knowing in the first place that stereotypes are jokes and not really meant to be taken seriously. Those who believe stereotypes are factual would have already believed them to be true in the first place, regardless if they were told or not.
I don't claim to understand how that stat graph in the beginning works but I find it hilarious that she juuuust barely got to the level of the worst performance of the worst male race driver. That about sums it up.
@thedemolitionmuniciple it usually does apply tho. Stereotypes don't emerge and spread across the entire collective consciousness because they're lies. They're usually quite accurate for better or worse. Quite obviously true, in fact. What to do
She is the worst kind of person too. Did a commercial with her. She made everyone wait on her, spent her entire time in her dressing room, had her staff do all her talking, and just had the worst attitude the whole time
For decades I've heard stories about her being like that.

The fact that NASCAR drivers almost always come up through dirt track is telling. Driving a stock car is just nothing like driving an open wheeler. Almost none of the muscle memory and instincts you develop in the latter help you in the former. As an experienced sports car racer, I can tell you the first time I was in a dirt track car was like I’d never raced a lap in my life. The car was totally different, the track was totally different, the traffic was totally different. I had to learn everything all over again. So going from open wheel to ARCA to Nationwide to Sprint so quickly was just nuts for her. She was unlucky, yes, but so is everybody.
I was gonna say the same; open wheel to stock car = mostly a recipe for disaster. Completely different physics. Not that anyone couldn't get used to it after a while but that depends on the flexibility of the driver, so I guess she wasn't too flexible a personality.
She had her first crash at 10? Damn dude, crash prodigy

I used to know a couple of guys who worked on teams Danica drove for in the UK. They described her as talented, but with an ego that wouldn't quit. They both said she could drive, but she couldn't accept any advice she was given, unless that advice came from a driver she respected. Bobby Rahal was pretty much the only one she would listen to...
As to her NASCAR career, her sponsors rushed her into the big show WAY too fast. A better idea would've been a year doing the ARCA races that didn't clash with Indycar, followed by a year doing the Nationwide races that didn't clash with Indycar, only then moving full time to NASCAR.
Women are bad drivers
But she was a woman!
Nascar became inclusive that day.
As long as you forgot Bubba Wallace.
She was a hot commodity because she was a woman. She showed some talent, and unlike some previous women racers, she was young, single, and good looking. This is merchandising gold! They had to use her as much as possible before she gets old, ugly, pregnant, fat, or dead. They all figured she was good enough, and with a little time, she'd be better. Sure, she is good enough to beat most who criticize her, and definitely every keyboard racer out there, but she wasn't the best or even in the top group. And she didn't improve.
But let's use her up anyway. Cash in for all we can get while we can.
It is possible that Daytona humbled her. A formula car becomes an extension of your body. Want to turn? Think it, it happens. Stop? Keep your mouth shut or you will lose your teeth. Accelerate? Like a rocket, a real rocket. By comparison, NASCAR are like driving a truck. You can get to bouncing around out there and realize your mortality. Daytona was where I discovered mine. Until August 1992, I never once entertained the thought I could get hurt, let alone die, until my car got loose at Daytona. Traveling about a football field a second puts you in a world of hurt if anything goes wrong. Those speeds make it harder to exceed the limits, and you need to exceed the limits to beat everyone else.
Maybe she reached her limit, but due to the money, fame, and contract obligations, didn't know how to back it back down. I've known people who were great Formula Vee drivers or IT drivers, but put them in a fast formula car or a GT car, and they just didn't cut it. As has been said many times, it is easier to drive a low horsepower car at its limits than to drive a high horsepower car to its limits.
There is a big difference between being able to drive fast and to race.
@@cmoore185 I made a similar comment to @sbgo1856 and @PescaraProductions. Most don't understand that.
The only reason she was allowed to destroy that 10 car every year was because of sponsor dollars. When GoDaddy left, Nature’s Bakery jumped right in. When Nature’s Bakery left, Aspen Dental jumped right in. These brands gave SHR over 30 races a season in sponsorship for Danica to play with her toys.
This was the equivalent of parents letting a 6 year old make their own dinner.
Of course she got sponsor dollars. The networks would always cut to her puttering around in the back so the sponsor always got airtime every race. When Manziel was playing football the networks had their "Johnny Cam" constantly showing his stupid face even when he wasn't even playing (and he was actually good). With Danica they had some weird compulsion to always cut away from the action to her in 25th place. They weren't ever talking about similar duds like Kevin Conway, and why should they? I never hated her; just that mandatory Danica segment.
She absolutely was NOT one of the best Indy car drivers. Her only win came because the 8 cars ahead of her ran outta gas. Stop it!
She was rushed up to cup due to a publicly stunt. Given some actual time to develop in the lower systems. She would've been ok. The talent was obviously there.

You forgot the real reason she fizzled out: her attitude.
She kept giving attitude to everyone, thinking she's the next Jeff Gordon. But kept wrecking herself (haw) during almost every race, which made each of her failures satisfying to see for the crowd. She wasn't seen as a rookie underdog to root for, she was seen as a marketing gimmick who constantly ran out of talent on the field, a good chunk of which was at the risk of others.

As someone from outside nascar (everything i know is from Ricky Bobby) i cant tell about her attitude outside of races but from the clips shown she doesn't seem to be able to learn humility. If she stopped trying to punch so high above her weight class she would likely wouldn't have crashed and burned.
Having the humility to say "this is too much for me" probably could have made her career much better. Idk how big the sponsorship gaps are between nascar/stockcar and what she was in before but being the top 3-5 in the league vs the worst, i think i know who i would pay to promote

It's very possible that she was in it for the money. Seeing how her role as a marketing gimmick would comfortably guarantee her a top-dough sponsorship deal, this was basically her safe option. Those same ppl who think they can beat a professional athlete are the same ppl who think they can take on a grizzly. Most ppl don’t actually think they can beat an athlete, it’s just that the ones who do tend to speak the loudest.
I think it's more anger at a wasted opportunity in my opinion. Myself for example, I would love to be a race car driver, but I didn't grow up near tracks, didn't have enough money, and didn't have parents involved in motorsport. So my only option now is to do sim racing in my home where I will never be on the same level of a pro driver. However, seeing someone like Danica, I'm pretty confident that if I had the same opportunities as her (growing up carting, sponsors, etc.) I would've gotten better results than she did.
That's what people mean when they say they could do better. No one is under the illusions that in our current state we could beat a pro, but that if we had the same opportunities as a pro, we would be better.
@atomictacco Statistically speaking based on facts , NO.
Even with the best training and opportunity, based on statistics, you still would not be better than her.
You're one of those people viewers/fans I was speaking about lol.
I get it we don't all start out with equal opportunities , but only we can put ourselves in a box and say I can't or couldn't do that , because of something out of my control.

I’d say that Danica’s career in NASCAR is a cautionary tale of moving up too quickly. Much like Icarus who flew too close to the sun. A lesson I’m definitely taking to heart with my racing journey. Better to prove my worth first in the series I’m in. Then move up when I’ve got the experience and confidence to take on that challenge.
There's nothing to say should would ever have even gotten to the Nationwide series if she did it your way
@@PointNemo9 Fair enough, I can see how other factors could make that difficult or near impossible because of elements out of her control. But I certainly think that this method would help her develop as a better NASCAR driver than what eventually became of her career. She’s got the talent and skill to wheel those cars around a track, no doubt. I just think a little more time in NASCAR’s lower divisions could have helped in adjusting her driving style to maximize her performance in the sport.

@@xbgo1856 - In driver's school, this is what I had to teach students. Many were fast in Solo events, and they could run really fast laps, but they just didn't get the idea of racing. A well-trained friend criticized me often in the beginning until we raced each other. I rented a much slower Pinto than his Fiat. He gridded around 25th and I was around 35th. When the green dropped, everyone began lining up on the right side of the straight for Turn 2 on the "correct" line. I dropped to the left on the "wrong" line. I passed about 25 cars, was on the inside, and had the corner. He went from about 10 cars ahead of me to about 15 behind me in one corner. They milked the novelty of having a female driver in NASCAR for as long as they could and made as much money off the novelty while it lasted. Danica's career in NASCAR was a cruel publicity stunt. If the people in her corner cared about her they would not have thrown her to the wolves. The poor woman literally got chewed up and spit out nearly every time.
There is a reason you don't see large numbers of female drivers in NASCAR, it is a sport that its primarily male. I did some searching on Google and the only female driver I could find currently competing is Hailie Deegan who drives in the Craftsman Truck division.

Pretty sure weight played a role in that considering all the other front-runners ended up running out of fuel on the last lap. Given that IndyCar is a spec series, what was different with her car? Weight. What doesn't make a huge difference in NASCAR? Weight. Thirty or forty (or more) pounds doesn't make much of a difference to a 3300-lb car. Ask Tony Stewart.
Shes a woman in a mans sport. How well could she have done?

The part that gets massively over looked about her early success in indy is how the weight rules worked and why she left. The short is before indy just weight the car, and her being so small gave her about 50-100 ib depending on the driver. They changed that and she was out of indy racing instantly.
could you explain to a non racing person what that even means? i kinda wondered on this video randomly and i felt into the rabbit hole
50-100 lbs is a LOT of weight to overcome. Think of it this way. Imagine two exactly equal cars driving on the track but one has to carry two bags of concrete and the other doesn't. The lighter car will accelerate quicker, reach a higher top speed, get better fuel mileage and have better tire wear. That's the advantage she had up until they changed the rules where the car and driver had a minimum weight requirement.
She is a good driver but in all reality she should have never been put into the higher series until getting a lot of seat time. I often wonder how much her lack of success set other women back in auto racing in general as I think there were better women drivers out there but they just didn't have the corporate backing like she did. I'm a sim racer so the only metric I have to measure myself against other drivers is just talent as I don't get any advantage in the sim for being a woman racer.
Indy Racing League president Brian Barnhart responded that her weight "had a virtually minimal effect on the competition". There's infinite proper academic research on the subject that support that idea and even if it was a problem they can just add weight to her car to get to the minimum. I’m pretty sure Mahaveer Ragunathan is the worst driver ever. Dude truly does not give a shit on track.
You may wanna add Jann Mardenborough (real one) on the list.
That was a well done video and a pretty good take and explanation of her career. I would like to make my nominations for worst race car driver of all time. Nakita Mazepin! He and his father ruined Haas F1, and Mick Schumacher's debut.
Danica is similar to that one kid who found out about the money cheat code in nascar 06, bought themselves the best team, skipped all the way to the top and did horribly at races.
Yup she should change her name to Crashica
Lolol
...Bro, that is oddly specific 🤣
This is the only Nascar related thing ive ever watched in my entire life.
From this video, I learned that there are a lot more racing leagues than I ever imagined.
I feel bad for Danika. She clearly wasnt in the same skill level as the rest of the drivers, but got turned into a promo tool and pushed into the league she wasnt ready for by a bunch of marketting jackasses, and proceeded to get humilated on the world stage by people far outside her weightclass, so to speak.
true i think i know which sport im never gonna watch now
This is the first I'm hearing of The Scallenge, but it's so true. Perspective is really lost when the only basketball games you watch are the ones that are so good they get paid to do it.
Not a race fan, but I once listened to a NASCAR PR person explain that the draw of NASCAR many fans believe they, too, could be on the track if they had the right car. When I raised my hand and asked 'Didnt Danica prove that? ' I suddenly became the a******.
In high school I worked at the town rink where the local NHL team occasionally practiced and we got to skate with a few of them. I would've loved to have had even half the ability of the "worst" guys on the team because their skill level was still absolutely mind blowing.
Your driving skills are still far batter than danica's
think you're on the wrong video bruh! this is motor racing.
@@funkytransportthink you didn’t watch the video then “bruh”
im with you. My local rec basketball team at the Y got challenged by the local HS GIRLS basketball team. We got smoked! Their passing and shooting was just next level. They couldn't get to the rim of course, but it didnt matter.
@@thecocktailian2091 HS girls sports teams usually get blown out by middle school boys. If they wrecked you then you need to up your game.
"Even if you're the worst of the best, you're still one of the best" I'm gonna keep that in mind in College
Don't think that's gonna help you if you're really one of the worst
Absolute cap
