I love that you include the "extras" that contribute to the language of signing. No one else I have watched does that. The language is more than just vocabulary; it helps to know how to put them together so a person makes sense. Thank you.
Maybe because others didn't cover "grammar" as the title says, which is the way to put words together.
Thankfully learning ASL appears to be simpler than I thought. You make a great & enjoyable teacher to follow along to!
I can't afford to pay for your courses, but I do guide myself through your videos as much as possible, I do encourage you to keep making quiz videos, it really helps me since I have no one to practice with at home, thank you for making this kind of "course" on RUclips who can't afford it or just don't have time for it.
I got a 100% on the quiz. THANK YOU SO MUCH MEREDITH! Sign language is something I’ve always been interested in learning. Unfortunately I still haven’t looked into classes, but while I wait, you’re videos are lifesavers. Thank you! ❤🤟🏾
That’s a very good idea about 5 parameters. That will help signers to understand it. Great work, Meredith!
Hi signers, don’t forget to use your face expressions when you are chatting with the deaf people. 😊
Have a very pleasant week! 😊
Thanks John!
@@LearnHowtoSign You are very welcome, Meredith! 😊
This is awesome! thank you so much for making lessons like this accessible!
Definitely gonna pay for your online course. Your videos helped me in my ASL lab class, , so thank you
The non-manual expressions seem like they’re going to be a little hard for me, especially doing two at once, because I’m going to have to think about the sign AND the expression, so it’ll get a little confusing-but I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it :) thank you, these videos are helping me learn!
You'll get there. I did, and I've never been very expressive with gestures and facial expressions. But you pick it up as you talk to deaf people. Don't quit!
Thanks so much for explaining!
I got 100%!!! Yayyy!! I've been watching and following your videos with my kids for a couple of months now.
This is very useful, I'm learning a lot. Thank you!
Such a great channel. The one thing I'd recommend is signing along as you speak. That way people can pick up on new words!
ASL doesn't directly translate so signing as your speak English isn't proper ASL.
From what I’ve learned from a content creator who has deaf parents is talking while signing is counter intuitive. They must pick one in order to teach or you can be taught wrong.
this was great! more of these please! ❤ 🤟🏽
You got it!
Love the way you teach ❤
Thank you for such a clear explanation! I already speak Zambian Sign (which is based on ASL) so a lot of these elements are familiar.
Thank you. Very helpful
Thank you so much, I learned a lot about the structure of ASL!
OMGOSH!!! CAN'T WAIT!!! 💎✍🏾📝 💎✍🏾📝
All your videos are really helpful! If I'm a beginner which video should I start with?
Thank you so much.
Very interesting. I’ve never seen “hello” signed at the forehead. It has always been at the chin. I’ve got that corrected immediately. Great job, Mr Edith!! 😆
😊 thank you for helping me to learning American Sign Language.😊
I'm doing this! Going to rey the quiz
Blessings 🙌
This program looks awesome!!
Thanks! We think it is pretty awesome too.
Love videos, I'm learning soo much❤❤
I'm so glad!
I love this! I have to look at how much the course costs, but if I can't afford it I can ask for it for my birthday (I'm turning 16 in March)
This is really good 👍
Thanks.
Your videos are wesome and helpful! I just have one tiny question: when saying "do you understand me?" do you sign "you understand me?" or "you understand me you?" ?
Thank you !
I was left-handed as a child, but my grandmother "corrected" me, so now I am right-handed. When learning to sign, I sometimes mix up which part of a sign goes with my dominant or non-dominant hand. Would that confuse a deaf person if I accidentally switch for certain signs? (And what might a hearing analog to that be?)
I'm currently working to improve my French fluency, then my Spanish. After that, ASL. I study ASL just a little every three days, mostly with these videos, while spending most of my time on French.
When I make ASL my language focus, I will look into this accelerated program more. I really liked this preview- best approach I've seen so far.
We'd love for you to join us.
French and Spanish syntax are NOT the same.
@@reflectionsinthebible3579 Oui, je sais. Pourqoui vous pense je dis ca? Je suis tres curieux.
I have a question. What happens when I register on your website?
Hi! what do the sentences mean that you signed at the end?
This was a great video! 😍
I start my ASL interpreter class next month and I’m so nervous. 🤟🏾😓
Don’t be nervous. You will be a very fine interpreter. 😊
Where do we go for courses?
Skillshare
Where is the link for the test
in just 8 minutes ive already learned so much. seems like a great course, but sadly I can't afford it
I think I got a 100 % percent on the quiz whattt??? How
I was told before that the sign for 'don't understand' is pointing sort of behind you rather than right up, is this only in my experience or are there variations?
Is it bad to sign with your nondominant hand if it feels more comfortable to use? I am right handed but some of the signs when I'm learning them is easier on my left /
I'd say use whichever is comfortable but make sure u stick to using the same hand. If you switch hands while signing, it can get confusing.
I'm HOH here. Is it simply stylistic to end the signed questions with a question mark sign?
No. It’s to add emphasis that it’s a question.
Hello, I am using asl to introduce myself, tho I'm not a deaf person and I do not have a deaf classmate, is that okay?!
Please answer I need help
Why would it not be okay. That's like going to Finland and it not being okay to speak finnish
ASL is for everyone. You never know why you might need it in the future.
Everyone is welcome, hearing or not. If people who are deaf and HOH were the only ones who learned ASL, then Meredith wouldn't have / need this channel. Think of ASL as learning a language and communicating with others - those skills are always welcome and needed.
As an autistic person who has non verbal episodes, I’m learning sign to help me communicate my needs, facial expressions are very challenging for me so I was wondering if I can still do the sign without? I’m working on facial expressions but it’s difficult for me to do them while signing. Any advice?
Why was asl kept in French syntax all these years since English syntax is easier for so many hh, deaf and hearing? They have to write and read English and it seems asl French syntax isn’t even kept completely and with many not at all. So many speak pidgin even deaf and hh.
quick question: so im right handed but for some reason i prefer to sign with my left hand. is that ok???
Yes as long as you stick with you left all the time. Or at least all through each conversation. It means you are ambidextros to a degree.
In the words of my first asl instructor, "Pick one hand and teach it to sign." I am right handed also, but I wish I would have chosen to teach my left hand to sign. I would have liked to have a stronger left hand.
Ok thank you!
firsttt!!!! thx also
SECOND!
🤗
I know it stands for "American Sign Language", but my dumb brain keeps seeing it as "Age Sex Location"
What do you do if you can't raise your eyebrows?
Loved it! Got all the questions right but one. The "Learn Sign Language" one
I missed. I actually signed the "Sign" and then "Language". I see now that
you only need to do "Sign" and don't add the "Language" one in there.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I also noticed when you sign, "ASL", you're moving your hand in a circular
motion while signing it. Is that necessary or do you have to sign it always
with a circular motion? Thanks.
P.s. Took the Quiz. Got 100%! Woo! Hoo! I was happy. Thank you again for
your awesome teaching.
I also got all the questions right😁
Way to go!
YAY!
I signed "language" also, Lol.
@@LearnHowtoSign- Can you please answer my question
about when you actually sign, "ASL". Is it really necessary
to move your hand in a circular motion when signing it?
I notice you always do that.
