It's funny, I think HRV was actually easier for you to explore because you knew so little about it. That meant you were relying more on exploring everywhere you went for paths, figuring out what connected, and looking at the map to tie everything together. Here, you already knew a good portion of the map going in, so you're unlikely to go back and check the exact spot where one path branches off that you missed previously. I guess it doesn't help that AC is a bit more linear, though. And with no bedroll you have to keep backtracking to Angler's before you can get anywhere.
