Tomasi's writing is always solid, one of the most underrated writers at DC over the past 20 years. Glad he's getting more omnis, can't wait to get this and GLC.
Highly agree. By the end of the month he will take up the most room on my shelf after Morrison and Johns.

It's nuts dude has like 5 or 6 omnis out. That's more than a lot of writers
@@akkakkakekkn I think his runs on books usually make for really good omnis, he tends to stick around for a while and develop solid stories. Even his Nightwing was great and that was kind of short, a deluxe edition for that would be cool.
@@Krypton_Ken Jonathan Hickman and Geoff Johns are two other writers that have work that makes for good omnis.
Just finished reading Superman by Tomasi and loved it! Will definitely be picking this up. Its gonna be hard to beat his Superman run though.
Wish we could get all the Batman and Detective Comics Denny O'Neill did in omnibus and tpb volumes

Gonna get this book everything I'm looking for in a batman story
Batman Year 2 FTW cool seeing the Reaper and yes Y2 counts and is canon! Enjoyed his Superman stuff and looks like i'll be getting this as well. Thanks for the review very helpful!
The story is really short and i was disappointed by a cliffhanger on it.
Honestly hope a Road to Rebirth omnibus comes into existence eventually, just so we can get that leadup to Tomasi/Gleason Superman, AND get a bunch of that Tomasi writing, like his Superman/WonderWoman, Last Days of Superman, etc. 😊
His Superman/Wonder Woman was underrated, one of my favorite New 52 runs.
@@Krypton_Ken It is! Gosh I want an omni of it all now. 😁It's almost sad that those kinda 'ehhh' setups the New52 had only got more decent writers right when it was ending and going into Rebirth. 😅 But something is better than nothing.

Came in to just watch a video, really wound up selling me on the setup for the book. Character studies and how he interacts with villains never seems to lose my interest. Plus, the book design looks fantastic. Glad to have this in my collection.

Love this run.
I wish they would leave the logo and issue numbers on the covers. Often, I find the cover better with this because the cover often looks "empty" without it. Also, you can easily know which issue you are reading. An even worse scenario is when the covers are absent and placed at the end of the book ... cough ... cough ... Hickman/Marvel ... cough ... cough.
Or, no covers at all (walking dead…) 😞

I have this run, in issues. Loved it! I thought it was better than the other book going on at the same time.

I have the first 4 standard sized hardcovers so I’ve been set on not buying this omnibus. But I now that by the time I get to the end of this video overview I’m going to be clicking over to my online comic shop and purchasing this omnibus. Near Mint just has that effect on me. 😂

I started reading this run digitally and loved it, but wanted to wait for this omni. I like that cover as well. But man that’s a hefty price. Why are Omni’s prices all over the place? They can go from $55 to $150 (referring only to the one’s in print) and it doesn’t seem to be tied to number of pages, or anything. It’s crazy.
MSRP generally is tied to page count and you’ll see a bit of variety in price from discount sites like InStockTrades, OrganicPricedBooks, and CheapGraphicNovels. Occasionally other retailers will follow suit.
The cover price is always significantly higher than what you’ll actually pay from these sites. If you’re seeing a book that has less pages and is more expensive, it’s probably out of print and that’s likely not the cover price
I buy most of my omni through Amazon because I get them within a day or sometimes the same day. But for example, Snyder’s vol 1 and Dini’s Batman omnis both more than 1000 pages, are being sold for approximately $60. This one is 982 pages, $130. I just don’t have anything to rely on as to whether the price I’m paying is fair or not.

They have some Tynion stories in here for tie- ins - if it’s LT easy not only Tomassi why not collect the missing issue and the rest of the anniversary issues in the back
I just got done reading Tynions TEC run and didn’t read the tomasi run because I knew the omnibus was coming out
3:05 the pics of the glc spine came out, no match.
It matches the GL Geoff Johns omnibuses
The Joker War run in Detective Comics was good. Action packed, exactly what you want to read when in between tie ins. Not something that will be remembered through the ages for sure but something you can read, enjoy your time with it and have fun which is really what comics are all about. If you collect omnies get it, if not, pick something else with that kinda of money.

No bleed-through, but tight binding.
Something that I don't think you mentioned, which might be of note for anyone annoyed by the lack of #1017, is that neither #1000 nor #1027 are fully collected here either. Both were huge anniversary issues (96 and 144 pages respectively) with a ton of stories by different creative teams, but only Tomasi's stories are included here (12 pages each).
This looks good and Tomasi is always solid, but can this be read and enjoyed without having to suffer through Tom King's nonsense?
DC pricing is the best - $150 for sub 1000 page omni and $150 for 1660+ page omni as well. Only reason one has "batman" in it.
I think you may be onto something. Metal is also 150.

It’s 1016 pages. You can even see it in the table of contents. Still should be cheaper though.

Not a fan of this writer(i have read this detective comic run before reading the recent james tynion iv and mariko runs) but a batman omnibus is a must have, my copy is on the way.

Peter Tomasi is a great writer and the art is fantastic! I’m not even quite half way through but this has to be one of my favorite Batman books so far. It is just fun to read. Reminds me of his Superman.

You don't have to but you did need to be aware of a major death that happened there. Aside from that there's no carryover.

Omar, should we consider a title a spoiler? I understand you try not to spoil the readers but, someone who picks up the book, will read the issue's title anyway...
It's like the Dead of Spider-Man Omnibus, if you or any retailer, doesn't say or show the title, how can anyone buy it?
I think that when a spoiler is in the title is a writer's choice, he wanted us the know what's happening, for some reason. What do you think?

That being said, I could be wrong. Probably I am.
It’s kind of a spoiler in this case since it isn’t the focus of events in this particular run. But since the Spoiler happens in the other Batman title, this book writes about it without it even happening in the book. That said, it’s big two comics. I don’t think it should get in the way of reading this run. Like you shouldn’t have to read a different 100 issue run just to not be spoiled when you see one issue from this one.

I don't know why dc comics made these Peter tomasi omnibuses it's just everything he's ever done lumped into one book and a lot of it just reads like his bit in a bigger story and it has a few moments like the other ones but it just reads and feels like everything he's ever written no relevance is given to anything except it's in one book and definitely not upto usual DC self contained story omnibuses

this run started too well and just didn't hold up- mythology is awesome but the other stuff seems like filler tories
I’ve been waiting AGES for a New 52 Detective Comics omnibus (among others). That stuff is a ton more enjoyable than modern runs. Plus Jason Fabok’s artwork is always wonderful to see.
I just want all the New 52 bat titles in OHC!
