- Originally published on Jun 9, 2011 - Considered to be one of the the most influential skateboarders of all time, Tony Alva, an original Z-Boy, hit a bottom 4 years ago battling drug addiction and alcoholism.
There, at his lowest point, his reliance on successes and ego came into perspective for the first time. Tony's fight for sobriety and truth has recently lead him to a new perspective on life and direction moving forward.
Dedicated to giving back Tony now see's passing the bucket as the only way out.

"The void is filled with love"
In the 1970's I skated, Tony Alva was my hero ... now, he's not only my skate hero, he's my Human Hero! How he's developed and grown (spiritually) is amazing. Go Tony Alva!
I skated with Tony (once) @ the famous Cherry Hill Skate Park in NJ. That was in 1980. I was 16. Tony was about 21. I couldn't believe I was in the same space of the kid I saw in an issue of sport's illustrated 4 years earlier (in 76.) I was 12 and already skating (street) when I saw the pics in that mag. A few months after skating in CHS along side of TA I was paralyzed in an auto accident. I was 16. Needless to say I never skated again. I have many great memories of my skating days and one of them was watching the kid (TA) who inspired me to take my skating to a different level. I'm happy for Tony and seeing that he has found peace within himself and has come full circle. Once a sk8er always a sk8er. Sk8 on Tony Alva. Sk8 on. PS. Tony absolutely shredded the Cherry Hill Skate Park and it's incredible 3/4 pipe and huge bowls. Tony was one of the smoothest skaters I've ever seen. Smooth as butta.

💎
No slight to Tony Hawk but to me Tony Alva will always be the original Tony when it comes to skateboarding.
Tony was a blessing tonight to hear and see that video of you were you have now found peace in your soul
Tony you fucking made it brother! Thank you for your honesty and compassion.
Skateboarding saved my life as a kid / teenager ! It was an outlet / brought us together / those with money / those without / family problems or not . Everyone the same . I miss those times . Appreciate all the rippers who gave me the motivation along the way . Thank you 🤘🏻
Consumers we are conditioned be. Not till we awaken can we see clearer through awareness.
God bless Alva. It's truly all about giving, and this guy is a great example of the peace one can have when are authentic. Great message
love and respect for tony!
Thanks for the support and thanks for watching, Casper! Tony is definitely one of the most influential skaters out there. If you want to see more Pass the Bucket episodes, check out this playlist: bit.ly/2bO0EfG
Years ago I ran in to Tony a few times through a mutual friend. He definitely had a BIG presence back in those days. And MAN... could he skate! Glad to see he's on a good path and has found peace within. Keep fighting' the good fight, T.
It feels wonderful when you serve people without expecting anything in return.
Very touching. Very true. Wise words. Decent human being+
So many times when I thought I was really good, Tony would show up and the humble feelings would take over. He was awesome
In all honesty he's earned that "do you know who I am" attituuuude. Plus that attitude was a part of what made him Tony Alva...A cove surfing, pool skater from the not so friendly streets of Santa Monica whom took his skills to the top. Much respect to his change in life though. I'm just stoked to see him cruising the streets for once.
he is such a cool dude.
Tony, Thank you for giving back and being a continued inspiration to all. Especially, to to the young kids who need a role model - You are their Role Model of love & hope. Go w/God & skate on!!! Ps I've seen you skate since the 70's at tourn in San Clemente & LA
My hero skating was Tony Alva (Skateboarding Magazine) and when I met him and I invited him to skate our favorite pool. All he wanted to do was smoke bowls. He was wasted and couldn't skate to save his life. It was still pretty awesome!
The first skate video that isn't filled with evil. I'm glad to see this video. (The message is True) The Truth is lacking in this age. I sure want to believe that Tony isn't another person allowing the evils of this earth tempt him into corrupting himself, and those around him any longer. I am reminded of my wrong doing by his words. Thank you
Big respect to you tony alva👌
i love what this guy promotes, peace
Thank you Tony Alva
And in your heart I agree with you when you say you have to reach out and help peopledo it for free don't expect nothing back in return it's the smiles and a compliment coming from a third-party who recognize what you have done for somebody else that is a blessing thank you Tony. You are the true godfather of all air. People don't realize without you pushing that boundary that skateboarding wouldn't be where it's at today God bless you and your wife
Inspired .. i'm 53 i'm about to skate again first time since 85
I am sow happy that u have understand that soul is more important and make others happy I have a friend who is take drogs I don't know how to help him I just pray for him i really love him more that in soul not for money or something else is important to love and not hate ,been kind rather then been right .:)

Wow. Always an idol for me growing up in Ontario Canada. Waiting for Skateboarder Magazine to arrive and see the latest pics of Tony and the Z Boyz. I've been off work with a broken collar bone (non skating incident) and had time to watch some of the old footage and interviews from Stacey Peralta. So heartfelt are these interviews, it seems out of place to see these heroes be so open, but also feeling a connection of an era that so many can identify with. It has taken me back to some amazing times. Amazingly moving footage. Way to keep an era alive guys!!
Respect, brother Tony!
T.A. got that good spirit flow....yea brudda, the spirit path is the only one that truly satisfies the soul🙏🏼

rad. attitude is gone? radical
perma cool
Man... Tony treated people like sh*t his whole life! Ego, ego... EGO! Now he's preaching? Yes, he's a legend and ground breaking icon. But c'mon now!
JMT Experiment well said, he has regret etched in his face a sadness. But it's never to late, although you shouldn't need God for that. You are what you do, peace!
Skatepark?
I want an Awa skate bag 😅 i keep a plastic black sack on me in case it rains out
Homies be mockin my sack
Is that the dream plant you put under your pillow is that why you say it's connected to God
Promotional bullshit. Come on TA
I had to call it quits when he started spewing religious BS.
Wow godskate.
Well....
I'm an old skater who was a homeless teen raised in a jesus cult so I think I have some experience with this vibe....
My main takeaways from this was "Dont do drugs do god" and "the spirit of the hood is corrupt and weak; it needs enlightenment.
This made me sad cos I find this is weak reasoning....
Yes, smoking is a lifestyle choice, and so is God, both are pushed onto the working classes by corporates, who charge handsomely for both
The anti drug argument is really a corparate conformity argument which conflates public health with personal responsibility and adds a touch of godfear for good measure
Blunts save more lives than preachers ever have
Spirit is made thru things like education and skateboarding
Not corporate giveaways and wondering about philosophy or theology
If the hood needs anything it's free access to university, health care, and sports
Not the elites "giving back"
Jesus, I was only here cos I wanted to see the Agression Fish deck ridden 😂
Don't think I'll buy one now 😂😂😂😂
