    Yet another fine creation Davie. I can imagine you get alot of requests but i'll try anyway. I live in New Zealand and we are coming into cicada season, would love to see what sort of creation you could come up with. all the best for 2016

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  8 лет назад

      Hi Salmonid Ninja,
      I did film and tye a Cicada pattern for youtube which was a request from a gentleman from Greece, I used Deer Hair in the colours of the fly he sent a link to for me to see as we don't get these flies here in Scotland...Unfortunately after a few days I got complaints from a tyer from your country saying that I copied his fly which I didn't so I decided to remove the video which ended any bad feeling...I'll see if I have the video in my hard drive as I could upload it's unlisted so that you could see it, just keep me in mind...
      Happy New Year to you too and all the very best for 2016...
      Davie..

    Hello Davie, smashing pattern. I love the effect of the resin on the abdomen. It was more difficult to tie that stripped peacock herl than it looked. I did the second one with the superglue and waited a few seconds before winding and it stuck perfectly. Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year. Hope you had a nice Christmas. Sean

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  8 лет назад

      Hi Mike,
      I do strip my own mostly but I have used ones that you can buy. I have attached a link to the ones I would recommend, they are sold by a wholesale company called Veniards so any shop that stocks their materials should be able to get them for you..

    Hi Davie, I love this pattern ! Do you think this would work as a Carp fly as well ? I'm also thinking that our River Smallmouth bass would take this.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 лет назад

      Hi Michael,
      I've tyed many ants for friends that fish in Europe for Carp so I would certainly give them a go and even for Bass..I'm glad you liked the fly, it's not my pattern but a lovely pattern to fish and tye...

    I am a fan
    do you think it is possible to use the same tying for black ant, and in these case what materials should be used for the abdomen ?
    Thanks a lot for your videos

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  8 лет назад

      Hi Bernard,
      I would use natural peacock quill rather than the dyed like in the video and allow the black thread to show between the turns...I'm glad you enjoy the videos...

    hey Davie. I tied a size 24 black ant. have you ever tied any that small. I used broom bristles for legs and unteni. I haven't fished with it yet but I'm hopping to soon. I love this parachute ant I'm gonna tie some tomorrow. I've tied quit a few of your patterns now. I'm a huge fan.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  8 лет назад

      Hi Jody,
      I have to be honest I haven't tyed them as small as this though I'm sure the fish would find them interesting..I have seen legs formed with broom bristle and they do really look ideal for this..I would like to know how you get on...
      All the very best Davie

  • @jimfreeman3636
    @jimfreeman3636 7 лет назад

    Davie, in many of you're ties, you use some sort of cement or superglue applied to the thread prior to whip finish. Would you tell me what you use such as in this video?
    And, do you re-screw the cap back on after each use or just set it back loosely in the bottle. I use a head cement w/ brush but it has a very strong vapor, and I end up screwing the cap back on to keep from being gassed, which burns up time. Just wondering about this particular method.
    Thanks

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  7 лет назад

      Hi Jim,
      I use Veniards Clear Varnish which I do feel has less of an odour than many I have used over the years. I don't screw the bottle shut ever time I use it and it doesn't smell so I would recommend it for both, the heads of flies and with less odour..
      All the very best Davie...

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  7 лет назад

      H Mark,
      I have used Tiemco hooks but only a small selection as I buy them mostly for the certain dries I use for myself..I had a look at the 212y and I would use it myself...
      All the very best Davie..

    Is it alright to use darker materials as most of the area I get to fish have black ants using this system

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  8 лет назад

      Hi Hoot182,
      Yes use what you feel is right for the colour of the ants you see on your water.. Happy New Year and all the very best for 2016...

      Hi Darren Adams,
      I'm using Bug-Bong Lite which I prefer rather than their Original version which can be a bit heavy for buzzers though ideal for saltwater and pike flies...Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year...

    Hi Davie you must get asked all the time but do you sell your works of art anywhere? I'm paying £20 for j:sons match and catch flys to get that realistic look. Iv not used them yet as there coming from Poland and they'll probably fall apart first cast. Fingers crossed

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  8 лет назад

      Hi Derek,
      I'm sure the flies you have bought will have been tyed to last..I'm always looking to improve any of the flies I tye and if there was an issue then I would change them to suit as feedback is very important..I do sell flies but I also work on the videos so I don't get a lot of free time to tye the amounts I would like..I'm glad you enjoy the videos and thanks for the kind words...

    • @DavieMcPhail

      Hi MeGolf92,
      The hackle I used came from a genetic neck dyed fiery brown though for tying parachute flies I prefer to use cock saddle hackles rather than the neck...
