tbh i understand and relate to why he would volunteer for something like that. When you've never, ever received attention from the opposite gender, it messes with your brain and it makes you feel like something's wrong with yourself. When you're desperate for that attention and eventually get some (even though it's negative), you get addicted and blinded by it, no matter how "abusive" it is. Attention is attention. It makes you feel wanted. It makes you feel good.
