I think your point about inclusive practices was well made and I completely support this for garment testing! 😊

Im a xxl-3x and I pass on applying for a lot of test knits because I dont want to stress myself trying to bang out 3x as much garment as the designer in less than a month. And no, I dont want to just make it cropped Im olllld🤣

I think you are such a fantastic designer Rebecca. You release a lot of lovely patterns but it really is your attitude to designing that makes you stand out for me. It’s so refreshing to see a truly inclusive designer who makes sure that their patterns come in a large range of sizes, they care able properly test knitting the designs and making sure all bodies are visually represented at launch and to see you taking on feedback is a breath of fresh air. I’ve been waiting to apply for tests for some other designers recently and have been so disappointed to see that some have gone for a 4 week partial test, it’s not just put me off the test, it’s put me off the patterns full stop. A 4 week partial test tells me that the designer doesn’t care about making sure people in larger bodies can see the design properly before buying, it also tells me that they don’t properly appreciate the free labour that test knitters provide. If your tester is buying yarn and committing their personal time after work to test your design, I think the least that designers can do is be patient and allow the knitters adequate time to enjoy knitting the design and it’s nice to you that you are working towards this with your pattern designing

I purchased the Dorie and I applaud you for having test knitters. In my humble opinion, Test knitters and tech editors help an already good pattern become fabulous. I have been knitting for 40 plus years and the designer that takes the time BEFORE releasing the pattern to insure a quality product will have more success. I am looking forward to the release of the Lauder. Keep up the quality of your patterns - you are amazing!

I do so appreciate your approach to test knitting!! As a stay-at-home wife and mum to an active little toddler, I don't have loads of knitting time any more. But I love your designs and I really enjoy test knitting so the longer time frames makes it much more realistic for me. So thank you so much!!
Also, I think that neon purple raglan sweater looks amazing! That color is beautiful.

i have a lanark on my needles for my brother that he picked the colors for and it's been so much fun to revisit that pattern! i did my color change on the brioche knit row/brioche purl row, but i'm not planning on doing as much color changing in the half fisherman's rib because he shot down the idea of adding stripes in the body.
also love love LOVE all the patterns you're coming up with!!!!

Love the idea of a longer test knit. I've definitely shyed away from applying, especially on the more labor intensive patterns, due to my size, Yarn availability (in Yarn desert sometimes need to order) and test length.

The extra added plus for many of us is that we will have more time to finish our current WIPs before casting on for one or more of these beauties.

I appreciate you changing your mind about shortening the testing period. It made me feel weird when you mentioned it last time, but I didn't say anything because I'm not a tester. But I agree that, as a fat person, it's hard for me to get excited about a pattern that I haven't seen on bodies like mine. My friend (who's definitely not fat, but also not slim) always says, "do I like this sweater or is the model just skinny?" And that definitely rings true for me. (I'm also bisexual though so it's a bit more, "do I like this sweater or am I just attracted to the model? 😅)
Courtney Clark of I Love Tinderbox Crochet has a RUclips video on how to run a pattern test as a designer. While I don't necessarily agree with everything she says, I do agree with her stance on inclusivity. She calculates the meterage needed for the largest size and then calculates the testing period based on that. Again, I'm not a tester, but I like supporting designers who care about inclusivity both in their designs, but also in their practices.

I see that the test group is full already. So now I'm waiting patiently, because I do need to knit that vest haha.
I knitted a sweater in Drops Daisy, and while I love the softness and the colours of the yarn, it does indeed pill quickly. At this point I embrace the pilling I guess. I do plan to knit my spouse a sweater in it, because he has sensory issues and I rather have him wear a pilly sweater I made a lot than have a sweater not pill but not be worn either.

Ahh Rebecca, that Lauder is beautiful and it’s going to do so well with all those options. I can see me making a cardigan, sweater and vest! I love your Tydes too, I fancy a balloon sleeve, and have you thought about using drops brushed alpaca for a version? I’m knitting with it at the moment holding it with a strand of Woolyknit merino and getting an Aran weight gauge still and loving the fabric. Your orchid Tolsta is such a pretty colour and will suit you I’m sure. ❤

Lauder lauder lauder is on my mind. Especially today as we are in Edinburgh your neighbourhood. And i dragged my husband to gingertwist yarns today. I looked for suitable yarn for the Lauder but the one i liked worked out to be over £170 😖😖. So i didn’t get that lol. I think when i knit it (test knit or not until pattern comes out, depending how lucky i am) i will give daisy a go as i haven’t tried that yet.

I was so excited about Drops Daisy, but after knitting a sweater in it, unfortunately I am not a fan. It's pretty much the top item on my list. Anytime the schedule says "we have a few hours in x city" my brain reads "yarn shopping time"

I'm so curious about how you manage reading and knitting physically - do you read a physical book? On a kindle? On a laptop? I feel I'd both read and knit a lot more if I was better able to do both simultaneously!

Mostly my laptop when I read and knit! I have the cloud reader app and because of the big screen I can read a lot before needing to change the page

I love all your knitwear and would like to try one of your patterns once I’ve finally caught up my WIPS. I would love to enjoy more of your podcasts. I DO get the gist of what you say, but either you’re speaking a bit fast for me to understand everything or I just need to get more comfortable with understanding your words with a heavy accent. Either way, you are totally lovely to watch and I can’t wait to try one of your patterns.

You can slow me down! I do have a habit of speeding up when I get excited. There's a settings wheel on the bottom right of the screen and you can reduce playback speed to 80/90% and it works like a charm

Thank you for considering larger test knitters. I’ve wanted to try test knitting and there never seems a long enough test period for me. I am a high 50 inch to low 60 inch bust.

Is Brushed Alpaca similar to suri alpaca? I ask because a lot of independent dyers in the area use suri and it's nice to find ways to support local dyers, but having not worked with it I'm unsure of how it would knit up. Could be another option though? Also you're lovely and we loving hearing about all your feelings of developing patterns and the bigger picture.

Yes it's super similar, like a thicker version of a mohair! This one is 110m/50g

Beautiful cables! How on earth do you knit cables so fast? Can you suggest a tutorial?
Brava Rebecca for designing patterns that use a single strand of yarn 🧶! (Two strands held together are more expensive and often more awkward to handle).❤

I am drooling over the cable sweater. The neckline is so beautiful. But I have a question about your Alba. I like that pattern and have it in my queue but I’m unsure what size to knit. I know the one by one rib is very stretchy. Yours looks very roomy and not particularly snug. I don’t like to wear things that are fully stretched out to the max. I don’t think it looks good. My sons and I have 23 1/2 to 24 inch heads. The largest two sizes you cast on 112 to 120 stitches. With the gauge of 26 stitches that seems like it would have to stretch it out quite a bit. So is the gauge measured, stretched or unstretched. One by one rib how is it done? I guess I could look that up. What cast on did you use? The size of your head versus the size you chose to net is what? Lots of questions. I love your podcasts, but have to sometimes listen twice your accent is lovely and you do speak fast, but don’t change a thing. I love your ethics and your enthusiasm. Thank you. If you could let me know regarding Alba, I would appreciate it, I was thinking about going for the second size since it says it’s suitable for a 57-60 cm head.😖🤔

So I picked the size that starts with 104 stitches, I think it's the small adult. I'm a loose knitter, so I'm pretty sure I'm over gauge. I picked that size because in the Purl Soho 1x1 rib hat I pick the size that starts with 108 stitches and lvoe the fit. I find that all 1x1 rib hats have to stretch a good bit but I do like that.
I used a long tail cast on, never have an issue with it!

Really can’t wait to knit this pattern. Do you use a cable needle for all these cables.

    • @the.creabea
      @the.creabea  8 месяцев назад +1

Nope, I didn't use one for any of them. It's the first time I've ever done a whole cabled project without one. I found that because I was only ever crossing 4 stitches it was a great way to practice cabling without a cable needle.
