- In this video we take an idea for a better crappie fishing lure and make it from the simplest materials. Then we make a mold, cast a bunch from soft plastic and go tare up the crappie.

QOTW - Great answer! I started making lures with a pocket knife, sand paper, and a drill. Basic tools that nearly everyone has. I purchased some wire & epoxy, and found some old tire balancing weights for lead.
You know you've taken your fishing to the next level when you can't find a lure to fit your exact needs/wants. Nice job!

Nice video Franco. I find it much more satisfying catching fish on a lure I built myself. At the same time it hurts a lot more when you lose a lure you spent hours making! 😢

Excellent video as always, those mini minows are so nice and crappie love to hammer them! Yeah, it really doesn't take a lot to start making lures, my dad started with kitchen knife, some 40 grit sandpaper, wire taken from a fence, chunks of willow he scavaged on fishing trips, some crazy glue and nail polishes for painting and he caught fish on them. Just take basic household items and get to shaping. Not gonna lie, I envy a little on everyone with bandsaw, belt sander that goes top to bottom at 90° and fancy UV setups but those are not a must, you can get by with simple items and tools.

I use a barbless jighead and wrap thread on the hook. Then I cut about 1/8" off the head of the bait and add a drop of superglue to the thread and bam,done. The barbed jigs tear up the baits to much and you waste $$.
I pour,powder paint,and tie jigs,also started painting hard lures but I don't need to yet get into pouring rubber,I'm good with buying my rubber baits off a private seller instead of box store baits. 100 baits for about $10 is fine by me.
My next thing is rod building,can make a great rod for a heck of a lot less than it is to buy one.

Great video Franko! That is my next step in making baits that I have not tackled yet. No pun intended. What is the bare minimum to get started into making soft plastic baits? This is my attempt at the question of the week.

Tiny lures like this with thin parts really need to be injected, Otherwise you get a lot of bubbles and partially cast parts
this is like when people had to choose between Coke and Pepsi, except with fishing lures.... and crappie
Hey buddy quick question for ya - I know you’ve got all the math calculations sprinkled in your videos for density, line tie location, weight etc. I was wondering if there was one location or a document that shows all of your equations for calculating these things

Yes...I'm playing around with Fusion 360 as I write this. I plan to do some design and printing but it will be a while.

I never made myself soft plastic lures, no idea about temp of cuking, etc, what about the mold silicon, it can stand high temp? Can you please generally comment about?

There are lots of tutorials out there for making soft plastics as far as the silicone goes standard molding silicone can handle temperatures up to 500° and soft c
Plastics get poured at around 300° but The silicone will degrade a bit faster.
If you want to start building lures, follow the video of making a lure out of a paint brush handle, very easy and satisfying.
