Alright now, my first comment. 70 year old man, been physical at work all my life, In MI. Still staying busy and moving. Fishing, hunting, got me a collection of saws. A cpl of huskys, a cpl of echo's. A craftsman for the nieghbors to barrow. Have a good day, every day above dirt is a blessed day & keep moving.
i'm 29 and taking a job in the outdoors 3 years ago was one of the best decision in my life. I started felling trees with an axe with a big 30'' handle ( I'm 5'6 by the way) on it because I wanted to do it the old way and for the thrill of it, I like a good challenge, and it was one! But it just felt really GOOD having a big deadly axe in my hands and then I was hooked!! 1 year ago I picked up a chainsaw in my hands for the first time in my life on the job. And boy! that was AWESOME TOO!! It's just like you said in the video Buckin, we can't explain it, it just feel good, being in the rain, in the mud, working, grabbing, felling, walking, then walking back, sometimes cursing, but oftentimes smiling because the guy next to you is as crazy you are and you never felt that good in your life. I normally don't comment on your videos but on that one, I felt the need to say thank you for the great content you put on your youtube channel. You sure did help me to understand a lot about chainsaws, felling trees, filing, axes, etc. Since then I started chainsaw carving, felling trees from 6'' to 32'' both with a chainsaw and an axe, made some good calls, made some mistakes but never too bad, always learning a little more, my chains are sharp, my axe are sharp! still got my two legs, making somewhat good money working in the forest and having fun doing it. So yeah I hope you see my comment because it's just huge Thanks to you! take care and keep up the good work Buckin!
Falling legends are out there. My dad started falling in his early 20's. He's 66 years old and still falling. But more importantly he's mentoring and teaching. Keeping this art alive is so important!
I would put a lunch box locker in Myrtle when I was in there changing gears. But that’s just me. I think sure footedness is important as they get older. LoL Keep it up Billy
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! I turn 50 years old this year, and am just about to start work with a company doing climbing and falling. Up until now, I have been bucking small trees just that size for firewood, and that 37 minute video is exactly what I needed to see right now! Keep on keepin on! Much love to all from Northern Alberta!
This is a particularly heart warming video. These young men are to be admired. Working together and watching and learning from a master craftsman. Your talk at the end Buckin about getting physical and all worn out sure resonated with me. When i crank one of my Saws up at 66 years old it still gives me a mighty lift. love it. love your channel good happy days to all new subscribers and everyone else.
When I did residential landscaping, clients regularly would comment that I must be exhausted and sleep at night because of the heat and labor. I always replied without missing a beat "ma'am with a tired back and a clean conscious everyone would sleep as well as me".
I feel the same when it comes to working hard for a living, I always sleep better and am in a much better mood when I put in a full days work. It always warms my heart to see old timers in a craft take time to foster the skills of the next generation. The wisdom you can gleen from someone when you are willing to set aside your machismo and learn is outstanding. Peace and love from Oregon Brother
Man, I’ve always loved watching your videos. I just found today that my husqvarna 455 rancher was stolen from my garage. Watching this helps me feel a little better.
Hey Buckin, 1st I want to say thank you for just doing what you do. I've driven 8 lug ford's for 25+ years and a 3.55 gear is great for everyday driving especially on interstate speeds "70+mph"but I seemed to have a little bit "just a little bit" when I was pulling something really heavy up a hill and wanted to get into higher gears. However I have always used a old granny gear T18 or new process transmissions never automatics. My 1986 F250is a 300 inline6 with a BW T18 4speed 2 wheel drive 3.73 rear gears and it does alright all the way around. Never drove it pass 75mph though and I run 235-85-16 inch tires and I love it. Just my experience with the 8 lug Fords.Good luck with your decisions on Myrtle. She's a sweet old thing.
Agree completely with the message. We were meant to work with our hands. I’m making the transition myself from tech to working with my hands and cannot be more excited!
I never tire of hearing you share your pride for your son and his friends and the hard honest work that they do, following in a mentor's big footsteps.... I hope everyone took pause when they heard you say...."I'm proud of both of you". Love you all...❤️❤️❤️ Lieutenant Bradley
Hey man. From down in the hills of south central PA - only been with you for about 6-8 months - but this just brings me home to the big woods up north. My wifes dad was a logger for 25+ years and he passed two years back way too young. I miss the guy, and this brings me back to those connections. I wonder if he watched your videos too?! He was a go to 372 Guy. I have one - and one of his 550xp’s. Love to let them scream! Im in engineering project management and the inspiration I get from your videos to just focus on what I want to be doing is what I need. There HAVE been worse times - and I am feeling pretty good too!
Good man things can always be worse . It seems it’s the absence of gratitude which can bring forth self pity or even anger . Life is a beautiful opportunity to get to know oneself then help others
Wooooooohooooooooo HECK YEAH. Get it Ganges bummer on the wire. Glad to see you back at it Matt. Hey Buckin and Dumpster that Muffler is WICKED. Lovin all the different things on the go Buckin. Love ya brother thank you. 🌲❤️🌲🪓👊
You should just call em two boys long log and short log, I know how it goes a lot of times around loggin that a lot of the nicknames ain't town ner family friendly haha! Glad to see those two young men followin the footsteps of their ol man, warms my heart to see real young guys scratchin their name out of saw dust and caulk boot tracks!!
My Son who is named after my Father who was a mechanic,I'm a retired Cdl driver asked if I had a 1 1/16 socket,yp 3/4 drive Dad had to pull a boat shaft out He's named after my Dad I told my wife memories. BEST so I get where you are coming from. 😌
Mornin Buckin and everyone.. it is Neat when your boy follows in your path. I grew up in the tree industry cus my old man was a climber so I've been going to work with him since i was 3, then over the years his back went out so i started climbing. But after only 10 years of climbing I'm also following my old man's bad luck when it comes to back problems 😔 i have collapse disc compressing my spinal cord from my neck to the center of my back.. i watched my dad hang up his gear for the last time.. praying i don't have to hang up mine soon... This is all i know😔 anywhoop stay strong stay positive and keep the saws sharp!!
I feel inadequate being a senior cleaning up the backyard with my Husky 445 today. It was 90F so I did sweat a bit. Hope my Son comes over on Fathers Day to help me do the rest.
Hey, Buckin Billy, I’m an gear head from Tennessee. I’ve got a 76 Ford with a 390 go to 3.25- 3.55 gears my old truck does good with the 3.25 gears. I had a 1983 with the in-line six with the granny gear trans like Myrtle it had 3.08’s and it was a beast pulling but I could still run 75-80mph without twisting that old 300 six cylinders guts out.
Hi BR It is good if the experienced share their experiences with the younger ones. It is even better if the younger ones also accept this and use it for themselves. In this way, the new generation can develop with the experience, develop methods further or newly and hopefully work even more safely. And if the son continues the profession of father, ... just great!! ( Text is translated … 😇 ) Best wishes to you, your family and the folks! Be kind! Carpe diem 🍀❤️ Greetings, Dirk
LOVE SEEING VIDEOS OF YOU AND HOGAN WORK TOGETHER ,VERY NICE SOMEDAY HOGAN CAN SHOW HIS KIDS VIDEOS OF GRANDPA BUCKIN ,WORKIN HIS MAGIC ,,GREAT MEMORIES STAY SAFE GUYS NICE MUFFLER
So in South Africa we call the hair cut you've got a (fade) don't know if you call it the same thing over there. Love it absolutely love it. By the way great video keep up the great work Bucking Billy Ray
Couple of questions from an old rookie. I’m 60 and just starting because I love the trade: How do you limb the bottom side when bucking? There is most assuredly limbed that broke and are under the log. Secondly, all you cool axes and you are sporting that blue. Take out your masterpieces, they have soul and are dying to work.
Billy can ask why you use different wedges on the back cut first trees? Iv notice the wedges you use have been modified with what looks like one of the corners have been removed? Would like to know a bit more detail on this from you as you are the only one I know that use’s this technique? Ps it makes a lot of sense to me why you do it and would like to try it myself When the opportunity arises. Love the vid✌️ peace wins🙏👍
We had three generations of loggers in my family. I myself don’t log but in I’ve cut a lot of firewood. My grandfather started out with a work horse and a two man saw him and his brother was spared from going int WW2 because they had a sawmill cutting Railroad tie’s.
It's not hard to explain - Physical exercise makes you feel good. From a medical physiology perspective it's well understood and documented. Eating healthy and physical exercise allows you to sleep much better and this is where mental energy comes from.
at least the younger generation has enough sense to wear basic safety equipment. maybe the old dog can learn a thing or two. your one heck of a roll model in some ways in others you fall really short.
I enjoy watching the youth of today show the where with all to learn a trade and work hard. You raised your boy right. Good job! Also … when you change your gears in the rear end…. You need to change the speedometer gear in the tranny. If not…… you get flashing red lights in your mirror! When the time comes… have a safe road trip.
I call it the cheeseburger test Buckin...when you have tough day grab or make a simple cheeseburger and if you don't eat it with just a little anger and malice..than you may have yourself a great "career" but it might not be a "hard job"...a hard day building allan-block walls has you mashing that cheeseburger like each bite is a tool to forget the hardships of your day
If you are changing your rear end gears....change out your speedometer gear in your transmission also or the mounties will be written old buckin a speeding ticket.......if you are running 70 mph ...that big of a jump in gears you might be running85 mph actually....you also will be adding engine strain when fully loaded...you can find better fuel millage with the gear change but murtle won't like you as much if she has to work harder when she is loaded! Have a great day!!!
I would love to learn from you buckin. My grandfather was a professional tree man. He passed away at bottom of a tree from massive coronary. Wish I had got to learn from him.
Your going to need , some highway gear's Buckin. 323's is even better. That's a lot of miles you have to go. Your engine will stay cool and save on fuel.
