    What a lovely guy and a talented actor. I always thought Richard would have made a brilliant Doctor Who.

    I understand that Richard now resides in Brinsworth House in Middlesex, a retirement home for actors. He was such a brilliant actor and 'Man about the House' is one of my all time favourite sitcoms.

      Yes that is correct. Most Americans don't realize that Man About the House and Robin's Nest were precursors to two US sitcoms (one of them is Three's Company). It's ironic because so many people think that US pop culture is the dominant cultural influence in the world but it has been influenced to a large degree by British pop culture. So the latter has contributed to US "domination".

      I met Brian Murphy who played George in Man about the house & George & Mildred on a tube in Kings Cross about 15 years ago. He told me that Richard was in a care home for actors, I was surprised because Brian is 10 years older and he’s out & about on the tube in London and Richard was in a care home. 15 years ago Richard would of been 62 which I recall thinking at the time was very young to be in a care home

    In his prime he was so falling out of bed natural at acting very reminiscent of Richard Beckinsale, funny, the guy next door, the bloke down the pub. Which is why he was so believable and so beloved.

    He played many, many parts from a very young age and was one of the best comedy actors Britain had. He worked in some of the most famous shows in the 60s / 70s and 80s and was loved by everyone. Now living a quiet life in a home for actors. All his fans here in the UK wish him well and hope one day he can return to TV. All we have of him now are repeats on TV and box sets of DVD`s. God bless you Richard.

    It's so sad to think of his health-problems - however, it won't take away the good memories he brings !. Always such a happy, easy-going guy - yet watching him just now in 'Cleopatra' (truly one of Hollywood's all-time great films !) playing a straight-role seems strange seeing as he's always been more associated with comedy but it just shows his range of talent. Would love to see a reunion with him, Paula Wilcox (?) and Sally Thomsett - even if it was just a talk-show format, it would be great as those 3 just seemed to 'bounce' off each other so well !. Whatever, I truly wish him all the best !

    I like Terry Wogan and I'm glad he's been around the BBC for so long but he was an awkward TV interviewer. I remember watching the Tonight Show in the US in about 1995, and Quentin Tarantino spent a part of his interview with Jay Leno complaining about Terry Wogan's interviewing technique - called him aggressive - of course, no one in the audience in LA would have a clue who Terry Wogan was. As for O'Sullivan, I do hope he continues to mend - good luck Richard.

    Christopher Warbey and his friend Richard O'Sullivan were onscreen together very early on, as two of the children singing at Sunday school with other children (including star of the film Andrew Ray) in “The Yellow Balloon”, filmed in the summer of 1952 and released in 1953. It was one of the first films to be passed with the then recently introduced 'X' certificate, which meant that no one under the age of 16 years was allowed into a cinema to see it. So neither Christopher or Richard or Andrew or any of the others there who were from the Corona Academy were allowed to see themselves on the screen in that film at that time. Richard would have been 8 years old at that time,

    Great to see Richard during better times! Wogan was great at many things - he had a wonderful irreverence to the Eurovision Song Contest - but he wasn't the best interviewer. I remember sometime in the 1990's watching the Tonight Show on TV and Quentin Tarantino came on and spent about a minute complaining bitterly of the interview he just had in the UK with Terry Wogan (no one here knew Wogan from Adam)

    It's absolutely shocking how quickly Richard O'Sullivan aged!
    He is only forty-one in this 1989 interview, yet he looks like
    a man in his late sixties! At seventy today he looks and
    walks like my dad did at ninety, and the tremendous weight
    he is carrying these days isn't helping matters any. I pray that
    he can regain his health (seventy isn't considered hat old these days)
    both physical and mental. He was a truly fabulous actor and just
    drop dead gorgeous in his younger days.

      Thesals1 being a very highly paid tv actor for year's and spending money like it's going out of fashion is dumb.
      His fee for me and my girl was epprox £17,000 an episode, he'd have made a few million over his career that lasted from the early 50s to the late 80s.
      Films major tv sitcoms, commercials plus various other highly paid jobs like tv, radio and magazine interviews.
      An extremely lavish lifestyle living like a king and burning through all his money, only to end up a charity case

    Hmm audio is good, was this from a nicam stereo transmission via Crystal Palace ?! I think Wogan was unofficially stereo from about 1986. If he was only 45 here he sure looks much older

      Higher testosterone levels in those days, that why we have men who look like boys today. Our food and water supply is saturated with estrogen believe it or not.

    • @jimmy27paul
      @jimmy27paul 7 лет назад

      Its in the water supply and food we eat, check it out, people are looking younger and younger for their age these days. I mean come on!..By no stretch of the human imagination is Shya Le Bouf a man...The Beatles when they started out were only 19 to 24 at the time, they would pass for men in their mid 30s today. In Ireland where i am from we put flouride in our water which messes with t levels, although its not have as bad here as it is the US, their food is swimming in estrogen thats why they have to get British, Irish or Aussies to play superheros in their movies, Amercian menare so boyish now they can no longer be taken seriously in the roles.

    • @jimmy27paul
      @jimmy27paul 7 лет назад

      Try organic foods, your T levels will return to normal naturally. Im not saying i eat organic food or anything, im just saying thats why people looked older back in the day. Its not as bad here as it is in the US anyway, even the plastic wrappings and bottles there have estrogen mimickers in them. Where are all the American renegades gone? At least when i was a boy we had River Phoenix, Johnny Depp, Rob Lowe, all cool rebel types, today we have Shya le Bouf.

    he looks a bit like steve coogan, in this interview, and also has that kind of awkward energy, that, makes you not completely warm to him, even though he was, like steve coogan a great sitcom comedian.

      I thought I was the only one who picked up on that one. When asked about the 'Cleopatra' film set and "excesses" he said, "It was a long time ago Terrence, I was seventeen". He was admonishing Wogan for asking for dirt on Taylor and Burton; calling him "Terrence" like a headmaster would. Coogan is always a bit defensive in interviews and I think that's why I was reminded of him.

      The big difference between him and Coogan is that, he, unlike Coogan, was funny.
