It's so nostalgic for me, I can't believe it's 20 years already. When I heard it first time, I was 6 years old, I fell in love with Shakira. I'm from Poland so I didn't understand a thing neither in English, nor in Spanish. This album brought me to listen to more of Shakira's songs, those in Spanish, and it was my dream since then to learn Spanish just to understand the lyrics. Look at me now, 25 years old, with Spanish Philology Master degree. I'm literally crying, this is amazing how one album sort of guides me my entire life.

This album literally propelled me to learn Spanish, to a full scholarship to study abroad in Ecuador, and then to a full scholarship to Harvard. ¡Gracias, Shakira! Siempre te amaré.

Her spanish rock/punk albums were so much more authentic.
"Donde estan los ladrones?" Was epic, rebellious and raw. She from punk to pop and lost a bit of her poetry and edge in my opinion. Theyre worth a listen

One of my favorite female artists by far. She is also very smart and has an amazing taste. Her smile is like the sun coming up. It makes you feel automatically better.

When this album came out i wasn’t even a year old yet but as i got older i her hips don’t like and whenever wherever on the radio as a kid and I fell in love. Some years later my uncle bought me my first CD which happened to be Shakira’s Laundry Service. Such a big impact it had on me and my love for shakira grew and grew. She’s still my #1 favorite.

"I tried to use the same kind if like, metaphors & analogies that I use in Spanish", yea I noticed with the songs you have in 2 languages, I was always so amazed at how good the translation was! Not word for word but sounding totally different, not changed in meaning to sound the same, but somehow ALMOST being word for word, meaning intact, while STILL capturing the sound of the other, with slightly different vibe but not really.
An iconic album that captivated the generations with its world sounds 🔥💃🏿
I've listened to my mom put this on the CD player during road trips. I fell in love with this album from then on.

Not only the music, but I felt how in love she was in that era, I remember feeling it so deeply, that I fell in love with being in love at the same time. And I was so drawn to her personality, she is such a well rounded, amazing in every way, such a genius in everything she does, I don't know, but the existence of Shakira is like a breath of spring air in the midst of a crazy world. Wow 20 years already!! Its so linked to the early 2000s for me because I listened to it so much at the time. I still remember when I saw her perform Whenever Wherever for the 1st time on an awards show. I went to the record store to listen to the single, I was obsessed with it. I love several songs on that album, like Objection, Eyes Like Yours, Ready for the Good Times, Que me, Te Dejo Madrid. I also loved that it popularized belly dancing again, my friends were asking me to teach them since I'm North African.
Shakira was such a breath of fresh air in the English music sector. Though I first became a fan after she did Mtv Unplugged.

Estaba en la cocina del restaurante donde trabajaba, y un compañero prendió la radio mientras sonaba "whenever wherever" y las demás canciones del disco solo 15 segundos. Era el lanzamiento del disco a nivel mundial. Desde ahí me volví fan de Shakira. ❤️

This was the first album I properly listened to. I remember (being an English speaker) learning the Spanish versions and the translations and trying to learn little phrases here and there because of it. It is still my favourite album (though I love them all!)

@@chocolinas204 si y no Shakira desde el año 1999 por Consejo de Gloria y Emilio Estefan inicio el proyecto de realizar un disco en Inglés. De hecho Que Gloria hizo varias traducciones de el español al inglés de canciones del álbum Dónde están los ladrones? Eyes Like yours/ Ojos Así incluida en Laundry Service es una de ellas. Antonio de la Rúa fue una parte importante de la trayectoria de Shakira, pero no la esencial.

Amo... Una época ESPECTACULAR. Shak estaba en todas partes. Sonaba en todas las radios, salía en todos los programas de TV. Estaba recibiendo el reconocimiento que siempre se ha merecido. Me encantó tener que aprender inglés para entenderla. Fueron días muy lindos en 2001, después de haber muerto mi hermano, el lanzamiento de este disco fue como una terapia.
Tambien lo recuerdo! Estaba en TODOS LADOS! Vivirlo fue increíble! Los gringos y el mundo estaban obsesionados con ella.

i remember when i bought this album when it came out and i was so happy that they included ojos asi (eyes like yours) because it was (and still is ) my favorite song from Shakira. and the fact that they did an english translation to one of her spanish big hits was so cool to me.
