    If I ever saw anyone doing that to a dog in front of me. Believe me, they would be the first ones in line to be hung as that dog. Can not believe that practices like that are still alive today. They should be reported and shut down. This makes me so angry. Thank you for changing your ways and shedding the light on these horrible things that are happening.

    Glad people and programs like yours exist. I learned how to train my first GSD puppy by watching your intro videos, and she's a fantastic companion 2 years later. I can't even imagine placing her in a program under someone else and not knowing they were abusing her. Our pets trust us to protect them so it's awful that some people would then turn around and harm them.

    I adopted a doberman that was about 3 or 4 years old when I got him, he was neutered and well behaved. I wanted to train him for obedience and protection. I took him to this dog training center and I remember that the lady put a choke collar on him and then started yanking on the leash when he wouldn't listen. She told me that dobermans are really stubborn and have to be submitted. He went through training with her for 2 days and didn't accomplish anything. I decided to train him at home and got much better results. He wanted to please me but he was scared at the dog center and for good reason. He turned out to be a wonderful dog.

    i was a foster home to a rottweiler mix breed. She was an absoluuute sweetheart. And i think she was abused before she got off the streets and into the shelters. Because a while after i recieved her to me (it was my fault) but i had placed something on the table that she could reach that wasn't good for her. So when i saw that she grabbed it i instantly went towards her and said" HEY" and clapped my hands to get her attention to me, and she flew down to the ground to her side shaking with her eyes closed. And when i saw that i started to cry. To know that this precious dog had been through shit ::(( But before she was adopted i managed to build up her confidence to the max with training and doggie friends

    This was great, and very hard on you obviously.
    I really appreciate the openness of the topic despite the potential backlash. I think its courageous on you.
    At one point in time we're all lead to believe certain culutural things that were told are "normal" at that time. And we listen because its what the majority are doing, or our loved ones or our bosses are doing. Even though we know its wrong. So we all make mistakes.
    Its great you pushed past it, and made it known to the world because it is such a serious topic thats still going on frequently.
    And more then that its great to see how, despite it all, you pushed past it and achieved this humane alternative method for trainig thats beyond successful.
    Very inspiring. I loved this video.

    The worst part is all of the people so quick to shred those who have made mistakes but are making the changes they need to make. It's easy to look down your nose at people for things they've done wrong (especially when it involves animals). It's much harder to have _real_ empathy towards both the animals and the people who were on the wrong path. Everyone seems to need a "villain" any more. It's disgusting.
    I commend you for seeing your mistakes and rectifying them. A lot of people would simply carry on doing what they've always done, simply because it's what they know. Thank you for making this video. That took guts.

    Just a question, if a dog is training for protection work should it not feel pain from the decoy? AKA combat. I don't believe in beating a dog in training obedience, but in combat your dog must be tested. If not you will only train a dog half of the real fight.

    • @TheCharleseye
      @TheCharleseye 5 лет назад +3

      Not really. Protection breeds are naturally pretty stout (if given proper exercise and play). You can't get a dog used to a beating without beating the dog and that's simply not worth it. During protection training, they get moderate taps and slaps (similar to when you wrestle with a dog) so they're familiar with it and don't get startled when it happens in real life. That's as far as it should go.
      The fact is, if your dog ever needs to protect you from someone who is intent on doing harm, it will likely end with your dog having broken bones or worse. You can't train a dog for that and you shouldn't try. All you can do is train it with the most effective techniques to end most threats. The fight goes out of most people when faced with a confident dog that shows its willingness to defend its owner. The rare moron will go so far as getting bit before submitting. The chances of running into someone who will do more than slap at the dog and scream like hell are incredibly slim. Training for that would be like training police by shooting them in the chest; it makes no sense and it doesn't help, anyway.

    Jesus Christ, I can't believe the abuse that these assholes did to these dogs in this video (now a days they would be send to jail). My husband and I have an untrained Belgian Malinois 8 weeks old now. I have cuts up and down both arms and hands from him playing with me. He is a Maligator and its in his DNA. He doesn't mean to hurt Mommy it's just his bread to bit. We are working with him to try to get him to stop But physical abuse is NOT an option not matter what. Its not his fault it our fault that he is biting and causing small injuries. He is untrained and don't know any better. He will be fine with training and consistency. It just takes time, patience and love. Thank u I respect your honestly and extremely grateful that you have changed your ways and understand the value of a beautiful dog.

    I am still seeing prong/pinch collars and shock collars? in your videos or were those old ones.....Steve White is a Police dog training expert with positive methods.

    • @k9-1
      @k9-1  5 лет назад +2

      No where is our video do we speak against training tools. We speak against abuse. Prong and ecollars can be used with less force and are physically safer than any other collar on the market, including a buckle collar if used the right way. Unfortunately these are equated with abuse because of how they are used by the same type of trainers that will use too much force even without these tools. All trainers should have "positive methods" but all trainers should also understand how to use "punishment" correctly or else they should not be considered professional trainers. The purpose of hiring a professional is to be under the supervision of someone who knows how to train humanely and effectively.

    • @walkaboutcanine
      @walkaboutcanine 5 лет назад

      A professional who does understand punishment can decide not to use tools for those purposes.

    • @k9-1
      @k9-1  5 лет назад +2

      i agree. No one needs to use these tools although they will be limited to what can be done for off-leash reliability without an ecollar which is of utmost important for police and military dogs in particular. Dog training technology is advancing faster than the education requirements (which are non-existent) for professionals.

    If you don't have the innate common sense and compassion to not hurt - Seriously hurt a dog then why the hell should anyone listen to you?? You relayed a horrific story without any sign of any emotional connection. I had no dog training experience and knew immediately I would never hurt a dog in the name of training. You willingly hurt a dog and defended the behavior.

    You still have a lot to learn I see... NO, one method doesn't fit "all dogs" and "any breed"... You don't train a Rottweiler the same way as a Labrador... You don't train a Great Pyrenees the same way as a German Shepherd... You don't train a Husky the same way as a Pooddle... You adjust your training and you train accordingly to the breed and what is was originally created for... If I had a LGD and was going to you for some advises and you suggested training them like a German Shepherd I would say no thank you!... Same if I had a Northern breed!... As a dog behaviourist friend of mine says "in order to get a good respond from your dog you have to fulfill what he was originally created for"...

    I get the sense that this is somehow supposed to inspire me. I have a service dog in training and I am by no means one that disagrees with correcting a dog but this guy makes me sick how he hung that dog and harmed her...beat her. I admit I have made mistakes too. I feel sorry if I was a bit too heavy hamded...like she was going after that cat and I "booped" her on the nose..I felt sad about that. Or if I corected her a bit too strongly but I am nowhere near where this guy was. If I were him I would QUIT I would not harm a dog. I always use reward before I will punish to get the result. This guy I do not trust.

      ok whatev she had her teeth clamped down on the cat. she was just playing and the cat was cring and she didn't unclamp until I lightly booped her on the nose. she let go she didn't cry or anything. It was her first time with a cat. I taught her leave it by using treat training and when she does that now which is less I treat her when she leaves him and comes to me. She loves it here. I love her. I use mostly possitive techniques.

      she likes to play with him but she is rough. I just don't like hurting her feelings. Their are better ways to handle that situation. We have a trainer so I will adress it but I keep treats very close so that if she chases him I call her over and when she comes I give her a treat for leaving the cat alone. But again the trainer and I will work on it. She is an amazing dog though and a quick study. I am sure it will be fine.

      Easy to cast stones. The guilt that will haunt him will be his fuel to be better. By putting his own mistakes out there he helped spread awareness for these dogs. Don't forget that domination has been the given method man has used to impose his will on animal and human alike since the begining. Only recently has the mindset began to shift. We need people like Mike. Thanks man!

    This is fucked up and PISSED me off. I know he changed his ways, but imagine really ruining someone’s dog with these inhuman techniques. Imagine sending someone’s dog home all “trained” and the dog snaps and hurts someone because he was literally being hanged and abused by the so called trainers the owners trusted. I’m livid

    When did this kind of training start by hanging dogs? I hope this isn't still happening!!! I'm so sick to my stomach seeing this!!! Wow beyond disgusting. I hope these people go to jail to train like this to hurt animals.
