Also to map topography of the ocean floor to find breeding grounds where larger fish lay in wait. Yes and no. Lots of smaller fish by the piers/jettis for sure. But for larger surf fishing you need to be able to get your bait out past the 2nd sandbar, and get in a trough, preferrably at incoming tide. It can be a challenge to cast that far, but unlike this BS narrator states, it's almost entirely equipment based. It's not hard to cast a spinning rod far when you have the correct rod/reel/line/weight combination.

That's called a pendulum cast, and it's not normal to do it with a Fixed-Spool reel (the one which he is using). Most pendulum caster's use a large Beachcaster with a multiplier reel (with the line-leader removed). This allows the reel to fly as far as you can cast, although it is quite a tricky action and as an angler myself, i have yet to master it. The people who use this type of casting are: - British Sea Anglers - South African Sea Anglers - Portuguese Sea Anglers - Spanish Sea Anglers - Mediterranean Sea Anglers & - Australian Sea Anglers. Hope this helps people learn something new! 😁🎣
My old man used to have a beach caster, he used to whack it out a good 300 yards. I used to think it was normal to cast that far, we used to go to bexington beach in the south west and sea fish. You could feather for mackerel, or if you could get out the shelves you could chuck some bait out and look for bass. It was only when we went to West Bay and other areas in the day that everyone made a massive deal about how far he was casting. Rip old man. I miss those days.

It's so wild how the system you were initially programmed with is the one that you form your ideas around. I can visualize instantly the 900++ feet. When I think of meters, I convert them into yards it is a flawed system for sure.
@larrybarry4548 eats the rings of the rod( more abrasion) , if it gets entangled, you gotta cut or you gonna pass the next 4 hours trying to unknotting the thing, more friction on the cast too, and can slice your finger to when you cast, I just have a normal 0.4mm line with a 0.16mm knotted together and a bit of nail polish to make it smoother, you can use any line sizes that you see works for you or use what it's called a tapered line or rat tail , I don't have to cast to long where I fish I can put it at 150/180m which I believe is in the average casting distance for more fishermen. Just remember the most important things about fishing!! Grt some drinks, some snacks, maybe a book and enjoy!! 👍

he is using braided PE line which is hydrophobic (repellent) and much thinner tha monofilament nylon. Also, when you are using a 12 ft surf rod you can get a lot of momentum on the lure . . . but its a practice art.
