Bill was heartbreaking singing that song because he's clearly a secret romantic: recreating their first meal together, he *never* re-covered the hole Frank fell in...such a beautiful episode.

There had better be some Emmy's for this show. The acting, writing, and directing are phenomenal.

From what I've seen so far, I absolutely agree. I don't think I've felt this emotional over a show before.

Also, I find Bill's letter to Joel to be a really interesting and crucial shifting point for Joel's character. Before this, he's been trying to operate on Tess's final words to him ("save who you can save"). Basically, it's a mindset that ALL humans are worth protecting and saving on some level, and so Joel should take any opportunity to save whoever he can, if the chance arises.
But that idea honestly isn't sustainable for someone like Joel - he's lost too much, done too much, and seen too much of humanity's darkness to EVER think that ALL people are automatically worth saving. And that's where Bill's letter makes all the difference, I think. Because just like Joel, Bill doesn't care that much about most people. Instead, Bill says that Joel just has to find ONE person, ONE worthwhile human who deserves to be protected, and then that can be Joel's purpose and his mission. That's a philosophy that can totally work for Joel - especially now that he's with Ellie. And because of that new mindset, he agrees to take her with him.

When everyone's lives ended during the apocalypse, Bill's life has just started. Bill and Frank lived their best lives in possible way post-apocalypse and went out on their own terms. One of the most beautiful love story I've ever watched on a TV show. 🍓❤️

You cried when they first kissed. There was no way you'd make it to the end without sobbing! 🤣
Thanks for the reaction and thoughts. My best friend had an exit plan. He told me that he asked someone else to assist him but the other friend refused. He never asked me. I would never want to but I don't know if I could have refused, much as I would want to. I'd have done pretty much anything for him. "Fortunately" he died rather quickly and without needing any assistance.

Ah....your observation about Ellie's interaction with the infected was on point.
You were crying at Bill's piano performance because you probably felt his emotions in that song. Bill were most likely a repressed gay guy who couldn't show his true self, hence why he hated the world and became a prepper. His song performance was about his longing for love which he never had. He did extra work on impressing Frank with gourmet meals, hot showers, fresh clothes and wine because he was attracted to Frank, and probably lonely. His cry in the kissing scene signified his feelings of happy, unsure, relieved, that someone finally sees him for who he is, and that was projected to Frank who saw Bill for a man that had never been loved and kissed hence he was crying and had a moment of thoughts. And Frank got MS/ALS
    It was a beautiful episode.
    Great reaction! 😃

This episode feels like an apology from the creator for how he handled Bill and Frank in the game.
Also, this episode is one of my best and most powerful pieces of media ive ever encountered.
I really like the video from Jessie Gender on this specific episode. They really have some amazing points to make in their video, especially regarding being lgbt and how we are portrayed in media.

I thought the same. As a gay bloke, when I played the game I was really disappointed by the way Bill and Frank were portrayed in the game. I literally stopped playing the game for about a year because I was so let down.

    • @TheGamingTeacher1
      @TheGamingTeacher1  Год назад +3

I'll have to take a look into it! I'm honestly somewhat happy I went in mostly blind to this as it really lets me take things at face value rather than compare it to the game at every point. I definitely agree though that this is one of the strongest pieces of media I have ever seen, and the representation was incredibly welcoming, honest, emotional, and real.

@@TheGamingTeacher1 yeah it's beautifully done. Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett are incredible. If they don't get Emmy Awards for this then I'll be disgusted. The actor Con O'Neill (who is also a wonderful actor) was originally cast as Bill but had to drop out. I keep wondering what the episode would have been like with him as Frank. The chemistry between Nick and Murray is out of this world though. I didn't bother watching the series because I expected the disappointment of the Bill and Frank relationship from the game. In the end when I heard about all the praise the episode got I just watched this one. It works beautifully as a stand alone episode.

thank you so much. your reaction to this episode is just gorgeous. you give me faith in mankind and humanity. I am a gay man in my late 50's. When I was born, homosexuality was still considered a mental illness that could put one in a psychiatric hospital for as long as they wanted to keep you there. You could also be fired for being gay, or denied housing, and/or be arrested just for being gay. I remember Anita Bryant's hate when I was a child. I remember when Harvey Milk was murdered. I was around for the beginning of AIDS, the middle of AIDS, wherever AIDS is now. I marched and I danced. I remember when Matthew Shepard was murdered. I went to the first AIDS candlelight vigil in NYC in the early 80's. I still have the email my mother sent me the day the Marriage Equality happened. She was so happy she cried. I have seen so many changes over the years. It is unbelievable really. And-I have watched things as they are moving backwards right now. it's been a big life. And things have gotten really scary again. So to witness you-a straight guy-be so moved by these two guys and how they love each other--wow.
I have to believe that there are more people like you out there today. I have to believe that there are more good guys like you out there in the world who believe in love, kindness, and equality. I have to believe that there are more of you then there are of the hateful folk who are actively working right now to get rid of us. AGAIN. (see the upcoming "project 2025"-for real.) I want to believe that there are more decent, real, and good people out there like yourself. but it is getting harder everyday because the other side continues to get louder and louder. and frankly, I am just so tired right now. My defenses are down. I am tired of fighting and deflecting. I have done it my whole life. I am tired of someone always hating me just because I was born and happen to still be alive. I am exhausted at how much work it all takes to keep going when I see what I see now.
And when I see what I see today, it is all I can do not to go completely dark. the big, bad questions come into my mind-why does life have to be such a fight? and what was all that fighting for anyway? why did we fight for AIDS funding? Drugs? Research? why did we fight for the world to know that it was wrong to murder Matthew Shepard? or Harvey Milk? When I look at the manifesto of Project 2025-knowing that this is the republican platform they want to implement should they get into power again-I ask-why? why did we fight? They will never not hate us, and they will just keep coming after us. why even keep going? but then I see your beautiful reaction and your humanity, and I think-well, no. I gotta keep going, I guess. this guy gets it. so surely there must be more out there like him who also believe in good too. I have to believe this. so thanks again, thanks so much for posting. I liked and subscribed. keep up the great work. I needed to see this today. my birthday is in a couple of days. this was a gift. truly.

Great reaction. My heart did break when I saw this. It totally broke again recently when I read that Frank either had ALS or MS (which I have! I HATE that he may have had Multiple Sclerosis too but it makes sense, especially considering his symptoms and what he said to Bill about the traveling MRI salesman.) I assumed he had Cancer but I guess that's on me. 😢

I’m late to this particular game but I only just stumbled upon your channel. This is by far my favorite episode of anything this year. It hits awfully close to home. My husband died under different, yet similar circumstances. I cried for days after this. I honestly didn’t think I would cry again with your review because I’ve shed so many tears over it. I was wrong of course. Your sensitivity really touched my heart. The best I can do in return is subscribe.

And the Max Richter song is so beautiful within that emotional moment. The thought of him being alone again would’ve been awful. It was the right decision filled with love. It was a world full pain and another heartbreak wouldn’t be worth living. Sounds morbid but they did the right thing.

It’s Parkinson’s. The writer of the episode saw an opportunity to elaborate on Frank and bill’s story since you only get a glimpse in the game. He didn’t want anything obvious but you can see Frank’s decline in his painting because he can’t control his shaking. My dad died of it so I knew exactly what it was when I saw which just goes to show how incredible the acting is.
