If you think about it, The Super Gameboy was the Nintendo Switch of the 90's... I would play Pokemon on the go and come home from school and continue playing the games on the big screen! Good times

      no its not.
SGB requires you to own a home console & a gameboy game, wanna play on the go? also need a GB...
if you could dock your gb inside, I'd agree.

@@MusharnaMushI think he is saying that in the sense that he could play on the handheld and was able to play it on his TV screen, when looking at it, it was quite revolutionary for its time…and kinda paved the way Nintendo would go with the Switch, because this manner of playing these GB games stayed until the Wii was released.

@@user-pe7up5od7i Which is what I'm referring to. The Super Gameboy was a Gameboy, the same way the Gameboy player is actually a GBA inside it.

The enhanced GB carts such as link's awakening DX, pokemon yellow, gold and silver contain unique borders for the super gameboy as well as enhanced color palettes to my understanding...very cool stuff, mine was used frequently to play pokemon on the big screen as well. Good times!

Got fond memories of playing Wario Blast with friends on the Super Gameboy. It was the only way to access the multi-player mode which was basically just Bomberman on the Gameboy, which was just stupid fun. Beyond that I can't think of any other games that were mainly designed as 1-player games, which the Super Gameboy enabled you to play with friends.
    Great video. Keep it up!

The SGB2 is definitely a neat way to play your Game Boy games. I recall accidentally finding out you can switch the color of the "Game Boy case" border and being super confused; I thought at first it was based on what game I was playing. Also a cool feature of the SGB2 (and maybe the original SGB) is if you have the special controller for it there is a macro button that could be pressed to either slow down or speed up gameplay (similar to the speed multiplier on the Pokémon Stadium GB).

I bought the SGB2 from a comics shop in Adelaide in 2017!
BTW, the SGB2 can play multi-compatible GBC games (in black) but there's a catch, depending on whichever GB unit you've used, the save files are NOT interchangeable with each other.
If you boot up Wario Land 2 for instance, you are prompted to erase the save-state and start over from the very beginning.
So if you let a friend borrow it, don't ever expect your hard work back!

I have a Super GameBoy. I mostly used it for the games that I already owned, but did go out and buy some Super GameBoy specific titles for the special features, like DK 94, Space Invaders with the built-in Super Nintendo version of the game, Killer Instinct with the built-in 2 player mode with SNES controllers, etc. Primarily for me, I used it for grinding for rupees in Link's Awakening at the Crane game (for buying the Bow early in the game, and not stealing it) instead of wasting my batteries in my GameBoy.

the thing about the GameBoy was that when it released, i was only a toddler...so my parents Did get me one, but it was more of a 'throw it all at the wall, see what sticks' kind of move-- i had Tetris and Lion King, before Pokemon completely took over...because of this, i was more likely to play an ACTUAL SuperNintendo game on my SNES (there was one day, when i found the Level Skip cheat for Lion King)...then by the time Pokemon was officially 'here', i already had an N64...i MIGHT have played a session or two on the SuperGB, but eventually my SNES as a whole was 'retired' once i had the N64, especially since i had a GBColor now (for Pokemon Gen1 and 2, and Nothing Else) and the SuperGB couldnt play Color games...
all in all, though, i was really impressed at How each generation was able to play its Handheld titles on a Console-- from the SuperGB to the Pokemon Transfer Pak to the Gamecube's GBA-Player-- and now weve come full-circle with the WiiU basically able to completely emulate the DS's two screens, or with the SwitchOnline libraries for GB/C/A games...
...but yeah, the only thing id change about the Switch is to make the GameBoy library into a 'SuperGB library', so you can change/doodle on the Borders again...

Gameboy Player was just severely downgraded by the software that came on the start up disc (for example, forced interlaced video mode). Modern solutions with homebrew boot (Swiss) gets impressive results out of the Gameboy Player.

@wryyyy the gba adapter for snes was a unique device however its hard to find one at good price. I had two gameboy players over time.

@@darknesskillerentertainmen9002 I legit thought you meant the GBPlayer, cause I've never heard of the GBA Adapter until now. Still, not the greatest video quality on that device unfortunately.

I still have my original SGB! I added a link port to it so I could trade Pokemon with myself. Sometimes the two wouldn't sync because of the clock issue, but it usually worked lol

Love all the weird random ways to play gameboy games on a TV lol (Super Nintendo, N64, GameCube) - I wish they did this for DS games on the Wii/Wii U/Switch so badly

The best thing about Super Game Boy is playing Fighting Games' versus with only one cartridge.

I had the game boy game genie, took it out of its shell, and used it in the Super gameboy just fine. 😂

How does the Super Game Boy 2 compare to the GB Operator by Epilogue?

My earliest pokemon machine was the Nintendo 64 with the transfer Pak and Pokemon Stadium other than an actual Gameboy Color

It's weird that this wouldn't play color games when a gameboy pocket would.

No. Would be cool on the WiiU though.
Issue is needing the touch screen

I used the Transfer Pak in the N64 controller and Pokémon Stadium to play Pokémon Yellow on the TV.

I like the SNES Gameboy Player more than the Gamecube version because it was faster and the regular SNES controllers were better suited for Gameboy. For Gamceube you needed the Gameboy link cable for it to feel right.
