I was reading Amelia Bedelia Hops To It and in chapter 5 there was an experiment to teach you all about eggs. Also it gives interesting scientific info in the book. I thought of all the extra eggs you chickens are laying and you could do this expediment with Clark. I checked out the online book of it from the library so I could copy and paste and share it with you.
"We're going to make rubber eggs!" Ms. Garcia continued. "It's a great way to learn about the parts of an egg. And it's super fun too." She pointed to the whiteboard, where she had drawn a cross section of an egg.
It wasn't really a show, but it sounded interesting to Amelia Bedelia just the same. Plus, the project would take several days. First Ms. Garcia gave everyone an empty jar and a brown egg. They carefully placed their eggs inside their jars, then poured in enough white vinegar to cover the egg. Then they added one drop of food coloring and gently mixed it.
"Do your eggs look any different?" Ms. Garcia asked, a day later.
Amelia Bedelia had chosen to add a drop of red food coloring to her vinegar the day before. Now there was a layer of foam on the surface of the vinegar, and some larger, darker thin pieces floating in the jar. She carefully lifted the egg out of the jar with a spoon. Her egg was a pretty shade of pink, and the surface was speckled. She gently poked it.
"My egg is starting to get soft!" she cried.
Ms. Garcia nodded. "The shell is dissolving. It is made of calcium carbonate," she explained. "And vinegar is a weak acid. When the calcium carbonate and the vinegar combine, it causes a chemical reaction. The calcium dissolves and floats off the egg. You can see the bigger pieces floating in the jar. And the carbonate creates carbon dioxide. That's the foamy bubbles that you see."
On Monday, the eggs were ready.
"Now carefully remove your eggs from the vinegar," said Ms. Garcia. "We're going to take turns gently rinsing the eggs to make sure all the shell is gone."
Amelia Bedelia held the egg in her hand. It felt slimy and squishy, but solid.
"But how come there's no shell but it's still shaped like an egg?" asked Skip.
"Great question, Skip," said Ms. Garcia. "There are two membranes inside the shell-the inner and outer membranes. They hold the contents of the egg in place. The membranes protect the egg from bacteria and keep the moisture levels balanced inside. They are mainly made of protein. That's why they did not dissolve in the vinegar."
Amelia Bedelia raised her hand. "Is it my imagination, or did my egg get bigger?"
"Good observation," said Ms. Garcia. "The eggs did get bigger. The water in the vinegar passed through the membranes to equalize the concentration of water on the inside and the outside of the egg. This process is called osmosis."
"I can see inside my egg!" Wade said.
"That's right," said Ms. Garcia. "Without the shell, the egg is now translucent. Let's take a closer look at what's inside."
Everyone held up their eggs to the
    light.
"The round part in the middle is the yolk, which provides food for the growing chick. The yolk is surrounded by the egg white, also called albumen, which is what the chick grows in. It provides protein and water. Now in some of your eggs, you may be able to see cords on either side of the yolk. They are called the chalazae, and they hold the yolk in place in the center of the shell, so it is protected."
    "The what-lazy?" asked Amelia Bedelia.
"The kah-LAY-zee," said Ms. Garcia slowly.
    "Very cool," said Dawn.
"And now we have rubber eggs!" said Ms. Garcia. She bounced her egg gently on her desk. "Don't squeeze it too hard, though."
"Even cooler!" Dawn whispered. Amelia Bedelia carefully bounced her pink egg on her desk. It really did bounce! She gently squeezed it, enjoying its rubbery smoothness.
"Hey, Amelia Bedelia!" said Cliff. "Look inside my egg!" He held it up close to her face so she could take a look.
    "Be careful, Cliff," warned Ms.
Garcia. "These eggs are very delica-" SPLOOSH! The egg broke open in Cliff's hand. Amelia Bedelia was splashed with a face full of egg goo.
    "EWWWW! Gross!" Amelia Bedelia shuddered.
"I'm really, really sorry, Amelia Bedelia," said Cliff. "You're not the only one with egg on your face! I was sure it wouldn't break, and look what happened."
"Are you sure? I don't see any egg on your face," said Amelia Bedelia.
"You can both wash up at the sink," said Ms. Garcia. "But before you do, I just wanted to point out to everyone that the white part of the egg has been dyed by the food coloring, but the yolk is still its normal color, because it has another special membrane around it."

Right after last weeks video I was going up I75 snd a dump truck that didn’t have its bed locked was dropping giant mounds of wet mud on the interstate. There’s always debris hitting the road around Atlanta. Maybe the roads are better in your section of Pennsylvania. I do have relatively long commute so maybe I drive more miles in traffic. One universal requirement to get hit by a rock is there has to be a visible in front of you or passing you in the opposite direction. So we got lots of traffic. Most of my damage has happened on interstate highways

    • @MissingPiecesPod
      @MissingPiecesPod  5 месяцев назад

After seeing your commute in your recent vlog, I can imagine with the traffic and time spent driving, the probability of hitting something goes up quite a bit. I guess you gotta treat your vehicle like the war machine it is and just drive it through the carnage! lol

Hi Greg! I love your videos about hunting for yard sale bargains and your adventures with Bud and Deb! It’s a fun hobby, thrill of the hunt and you get to spend quality time with the in laws not to mention an excuse to grab lunch sometimes! Don’t feel bad about the ‘naysayers’, to be quite honest ,
Your channels and your podcast are so valuable to all of us particularly me. I look foward to your videos and watching Clark grow, our son has been watching Greg’s world since he was 2 and your son was 4. I enjoy listening to your podcast, usually on Monday, when I’m cooking or doing laundry and your sound advice and hearing about your week is wonderful. As a matter of fact, bc of you, you have inspired my husband Tom ( G Family) and I to go yard saling and opening up an eBay account. Just starting out but to make some pocket change here and there is not bad and it’s a good hobby. Also we found out about Knoebels from you and we drive from Queens NY to take our son every summer now. My point is that never feel bad, your channels,
Patreon and yard saling are all ways for you to provide for your family. In turn, you give us wonderful hours of content about your family and life, provide ideas, advice and ourselves and many included enjoy taking this ride with you. Have a great week.

Good Sunday Morning Greg!! Enjoying this chapter of your life...the yard sales are fantastic. The turnover of items on ebay has been fantastic!! The adventure of the win!! The bicycle is a fantastic buy. It is proof that you can still find hidden treasures. Great plan to list within 24 hours...it is so easy to move on to the next thing with how busy we all are...great discipline.
The Bins stops are really worthwhile. It is a great supplemental.
The Tuesday Election Day off was a great day!! It was a great RC day...until the breakdown...but you guys went to plan b and it turned into a great day at the park. It is awesome that Bud will join for the rocket launching this year!! That is wonderful everyone!!
Ignoring the naysaying comments is the way to go. You are so correct with not being able to change minds...another service you are offering with the channel...a venting zones.
🙂 It is so true that the one lashing out definitely have other things going on.
The disc golf was a whole lot of fun to watch!! You and the Clark had such fun and the banter was wonderful. A great day together and such fantastic exercise...and the Clark discovered a new "putting" technique. So awesome!! It will great if Cody join the game. Definitely get a few more sets...they are cheap and well worth the investment.
The AI song, I think they will love it. The Knoebels with your the Clark's friend should be fantastic. Sharing life with others is what is all about!!
I love the analogy of scrooge mcduck!! I can envision the brickitect studio with lego stacked 6 feet high!! Collecting heaven!!
Another Great week in Greg's World!! A week closer to the end of the school year and a summer full of Greg and the Clark on the loose!! I hope the end of April and the first week of May is a great one!! Thank you for another great week of content worth supporting!! Have a great Sunday with Cody and the Clark!! 🙂

I am enjoying the yard sales and bins videos. I just enjoyed attending the local Renaissance Festival I helped plan and my Druid costume was made using pieces I found at a local flea market. It was the same out fit I wore last year but all of my thrifted treasures really elevated the look and I got lots of compliments on it. Dealitectors for the win.

    Hello there Greg!
Glad yard sales and RC season is back in full force!
Let the haters talk Greg your content is a great comfort to see after a hard day. Seeing you and your family being yourself and having fun is so great to see.
Glad you guys are having fun with disk golf! It's an awesome sport.
Games like fallout do kinda bring out the evils in you. I myself have done not so great things in games like fallout or gta.
That burn from working out is a great thing. Encouragement from the body to keep going.
Tempted to make the drive into the US just for Kenobels. Seems to be worth the few hours haha.
Living off grid is a dream. Living on nature, no cars just birds. A small cabin, some chickens a nice breeze my dream.
As someone who wants to go into the arts A.I. is terrifying, my life plan could be flipped on its head. Scary thought.
Sorry for such a long comment, hope you have great week all the best, Rob.

Would love to do what you do buying and selling. But like probably everywhere it's a cutthroat business and see lots of people doing it. So I will live vicariously through your videos. I don't ever read your other comments because it's sad that people out there are so cruel. Even though most of this community is full of great people. I remember 1st time I saw frisbee golf baskets. Thought they were a new type of trash cans missing bags. I'm waiting for double point on Lego to get the fox. There is a teacher shortage everywhere. Im sure in another decade or 2 teachers will be less important. But sure school taxes wil still increase. I've had 3 windshields cracked by a Penndot truck in the last 5 years. I cant even remember what I meant by yard sales over babies. Might have to go back and listen to last pod. Thanks again for a great pod.

Great podcast and totally agree. You never know who the person is so ignore all the road rage and bs out there and teach your kids, who are in the car with you, from and early age, that this is what to do and do it by example. AI…..Slippery Slope and may likely go from it being the tool to to US being the tool. Look how many people are tools to their phone. The phone is a great tool if used to replace tools we used to use daily like: maps, phone books, encyclopedias and card catalogs, the phone. If used to replace things like communication, relationships, interpersonal communication then that person is the tool. It is impossible to have interpersonal communication with someone you cannot reach out and touch. While I don’t always agree with your views GMoney, I do agree with your heart and MO- motis operandi - be nice, be kind, do something good. Mine has always been: be nice, be kind, do something good or FU! The last part you help me work on 😂. Now, I’m a bit embarrassed…I was going to say” hey, When. We come to Knoebels you can buy us lunch and cat tails. Seems like everyone else is offering to buy you lunch. Hehehe. Make it count. Bobby G

Totally agree on tech! It starts as a tool that makes life easier/more convenient, but ultimately makes us worse off collectively. Looking at you industrial revolution! It's great having all the stuff we have and cars to drive, but won't be so fun when we make the earth uninhabitable. You definitely have me curious on which of my views you don't agree with. I don't think I've said anything too incredibly controversial so I'd love to hear your side of whatever it is since you got to hear mine. Spill the tea, Bobby!

Public Thrill Park service announcement, my son and 2 grades of his school are headed to Cedar Point at the end of May (30th). I was thinking of trying to chaperone, but is it really worth with 150 kids hogging all the good rides!? He’d rather hang out with his friends and I’d rather go in the dead time mere days after that!
