The novel is a masterpiece. I love the anime adaptations, but when you read the book, lines hit so hard, you get to to stop and try to breathe. Dazai was/ is so relatable in every society, no matter the year.
I had finished junji ito’s manga take on that story and even though I haven’t read it yet, I can agree. From what I’ve seen online the best way to experience the story is to read the actual book.

Ah 2009, the last time when Masterpieces were produced consistently, it was the Golden Age of Anime Ergo Proxy, Katanagatari So many Anime that people still haven't heard about
@@moondrip2163 Paranoia agent was trash, but Monster is the best of all time. And don't forget Gungrave & Seirei no moribito, that's a real masterpiece
what's even sadder is the realization that leaving that family (of that women and her daughter ) was probably the best decision he made throughout the story .
@@amvdeepen4846 I did watch that in fact. I found that the movie had a rather more grey ending which I liked better than that of the show. The 2nd last episode was something though.
@@infernusblack9924 For me the movie and the show was equally depressing. You can take a look on Elfen lied then, is old but have this dark atmosphere.
When I was learning a certain piano piece, I kept thinking of this anime, these scenes... And the time is almost a perfect fit (2:57) with this AMV: ruclips.net/video/Re-eu9q_yUU/видео.html (Mendehlsson's Op. 30 no.6) I'm really amazed by how it fits the atmosphere here. Even the pacing. Thanks for uploading this, it's not an anime I'd rewatch but it definitely changed me.
@@supremeperson6866 I won’t give any spoilers, but this is a story about depression. The author committed suicide later in his years. I would recommend that one should be in a right headspace before reading/ watching this

Yes please! I'm in love with that book in a weird way because it's not pretty to read but it's very interesting and relatable in my case

I've completed it like 4 or 5 months ago along with the setting sun, both of them invokes despair
