Not too terribly long ago, I found myself on Greyhound bus leaving Birmingham headed to basic training in the U.S Army. I was tired and a little nervous it had been a very long day. I didn't know what to expect when I arrived. I put my ear buds in and listened to this very song. It did have a calming effect on me. My home is in Alabama know matter where I laid my head. I'm retired from the military now. But this song remains very special to me not just because I was born and raised in Dixie, but also because it calmed me down and made me realize that you could take a 22-year-old kid out of Dixie, but you can't take Dixie out the kid. I survived boot camp and went on to a 22 -year career in the military. Life is good, Roll Tide!
