When a person is getting r@ped their body will possibly 0rg@sm as a way to defend itself from the stressful situation

    • @ettaetta439
      @ettaetta439 3 месяца назад +137

It's not just from stress. It's also because the body itself may react to physical touch. Survivors often feel ashamed of having felt pleasure or having had an o, despite the fact that the brain and the body can sometimes be very different. You may be mentally in pain, but the body is just doing what it was built to do: respond to a sexual situation with sexual feelings or pleasure. No matter what, if you didn't consent then it is a crime. No matter how your body reacts, no matter what you're wearing, no matter what your job is. You could be filming a video for Onlyfans with someone and you both still ahve to give each other consent, and it can be taken away at any moment.

A book I read in my early teens was Speak. It was a book that I still think about from time to time; exploring the world from an SA victim that felt realistic yet was still entertaining (for lack of a better word). Everything about the story felt tangible and the abuse was portrayed as something the protagonist didn’t understand, disassociating completely from society after it happened. Nothing about the book glorified or eroticized SA and went as far as to say the abuser deserved death.
That kind of literature is what makes people realize that these are not themes to F around with and push on to young audiences.
I’m no saint, I like the trashy romance novels with dubious morals too. But I have a deep respect for the victims (myself included in that list) who have lived through SA. It’s not sexy, it’s not wanking material, it’s not something young audiences should be engaging with without guidance telling them this is not reality.
The fact it’s pushed so hard by people who clearly are just getting their jollies off icks me so hard.

a few years ago i was sexually assaulted multiple times by someone i then considered a close friend. at the time he was working on writing a “romance” novella and was letting me read and edit it for him as he worked on it. at the time, i was a young teenager with no actual concept of a healthy relationship. his book had a lot of badly written smut like that of these dark romance books and the dynamic between the two main characters was extremely toxic and the way it was written normalized r@pe, grooming and s*xual assault. in showing me this story and his creative visions for it and shit like that, he normalized these concepts for me and lead me to believe that it was all okay and normal and i was manipulated into thinking what this person went on to do to me was okay. my literal groomer and r@pist wrote a dark romance book. normalizing and romanticizing sexual violence is a common grooming tactic, and doing it through storytelling is just as predatory. these books should not be written, published and marketed as fucking romance.

That’s a bit of a misconception based on the conclusion of one study. We can’t downplay the effects of misogyny (sexism, gender) upon women, because the societal messaging to idealize and pursue hypermasculine men clearly drives certain tropes like mafia and serial killer romanticization. There’s also a pernicious aspect of gender dictating that women should enjoy submission and displaying infantile inferiority in the presence of men, which is a major source of fulfillment in the majority of this writing where the woman is tightly controlled, wilting, or, “overcome,” by men in some way.

    • @AmazonRiderNeoLove

@@electricfishfan Just have to point out, being into BDSM myself, submission is just a common fantasy among women, it isn't the whole of the fantasies among women though, as not every woman wants that, or fantasises about it. But being submissive is not weak, a doormat or anything like that, just have to say that too, as there is a lot of women who feel being submissive is being beneath someone, that it is wrong and is being inferior to someone. That is a fallacy. It is also a fallacy that women are always being conditioned by misogyny, as a lot of women have deep desires about submission from their own wants and needs, some women are naturally submissive in their own selves and personality. Me being one of those women who just have a natural personality of a sub, I am just naturally attracted to dominant men due to my submissive nature. I have always thought a lot of submissive's are naturally born that way, it has always been a personality trait in people, to me. If you see a dominant woman or man, that is also a personality trait, to me. They are just born that way.
Being submissive is still being equal as a human to your dominant partner, as well. Due to this knowledge from being into BDSM and not having a lot of judgements about fantasies, I see nothing wrong with women having their own desires and fantasies in their own heads, whatever they are, submission included. I mean, does it really matter what someone gets turned on by, as long as it isn't hurting people in reality? We are conditioned by many things in life. We are born into a society that tells us how to be, that is conditioning. So, even if women were conditioned by some sexual things out there in the world, why is sex the main problem here and not the many other conditionings that happen in the world? And how can you tell if it is a genuine desire from their own selves, or a desire based on the conditioning that happens???
It isn't that easy to separate the conditioned from the non conditioned, as we are all a product of the conditioned societies of the world, really, not everyone follows society though. Some decide to be different. That is why you get people who accept their kinks and enjoy them. BDSM being an umbrella of different kinks that are not accepted generally. Kinks will always be a taboo for society. I like BDSM for the fact it isn't following society, it is following people's own genuine desires and it plays with societies roles and twists and turns them into positives, it just plays with the norms, regardless of what gender you are, regardless of if you are submissive or dominant, it will always play with the roles and twist them into something that is consensual and pleasurable and different for everyone involved.
I feel, regardless of if it is conditioned or not, women should have a safe space for their own fantasies and desires, a place where they can explore their own harmless desires in a safe and consensual non judgemental way, regardless of if it is a conditioned desire or not, with submission a lot of women do fantasise about this, it is not uncommon, as with the amount of material by women, for women, about the subject of submission.
OK so some of the fantasies are not politically correct, and not safe or good to actually have happen to women, and are not actually wanted in reality. But that is the beauty of fantasies, they are not real and a lot of the women never want them to be acted out in the way that they fantasise about, the beauty of fantasies is that they don't have to fit the standards and definitions of what it means to be a woman, they don't have to be held to the laws of reality and they don't have to be politically correct at all. These books that are not good to do in reality, to me, never were supposed to be reality. Only fantasy. I am not saying they are good, but what I am saying, is that it is a real thing that women fantasise about, and so it shouldn't be seen as unnatural. Even I have had some.. unscrupulous fantasies in my mind before now. That is the beauty of it, you can imagine anything and it not be real. These books are just a manifestation of the fantasies in women's minds, and should stay fantasies, they never were a how to on relationships and never were promoted as such. If you feel it is a how too, you need to have more education and understand the difference between fantasy and reality.
If it is done in reality, it has to be safe, sane and consensual (SSC), or risk aware consensual kink (RACK), so it won't be the same as the fantasies anyway, the fantasies are too dangerous and harmful to the people involved to be actually real and wanted for women. This is just my opinion, so please don't hate, but I just don't see it as unnatural for women to have some dirty and/or unscrupulous fantasies. Sorry for the long comment. I understand it is a HUGE wall of text, but this is a very complex and intriguing topic, so it would be a long comment, haha.

This kind of reminds me of that awful trend in early 2007-2016ish era teen dramas where it was seen as cool and scandalous and sexy for the teenage girl characters to have secret relationships with their teachers. It was literally grooming teenage girls into being susceptible to grooming.
It's one thing for these 25-30-something year old women to be praising these types of books, but for young girls, many of whom probably haven't been in a sexual relationship before, to be consuming this stuff, and seeing it praised as "dark romance", is INCREDIBLY dangerous and really worries me. When I was 14/15 I was a hopeless romantic fantasising about someday having a love story just like the ones in my books, so I get it, but the difference there is that my books were things like Twilight, or The Mortal Instruments; broody vampire boys fighting over some seemingly normal girl etc, NOT incest-adjacent stalker rape shit.

Sad part is Booktok wasn’t always like this. At one point, the majority of content on it /was/ recommending books that aren’t just smut, people giving honest reviews that aren’t just obsessing over “book boyfriends” and so on. I haven’t been involved with the community for a couple of years but things got so dark and strange so quick.

loooove what you’re saying around 10:30-11:30. Going into forensic psychology (hopefully, only have my BA rn) and that’s a huge point of research interest for me- exposure to violent sexualization and how it perpetuates rape culture. I think so often it’s up to parents to control the content their children are reading, but we know that teenagers can find ways to do things without parents knowing & it should also be in some part the responsibility of authors and publishers. I think writing can be a great form of trauma work & dispelling “weird” thoughts, but marketing these SA filled erotica stories as YA romance is genuinely insidious imo. Also tbh adults writing explicit smut (erotica) with teenage characters in it has always made me feel icky, even as a teenager that was very heavily on tumblr and AO3 when I didn’t rly need to be lol.

But at least collins stuff is all about sex being fun and empowering and women being boss babes and kooky wacky Hollywood hijinks. Exactly. If you do want to write CNC, there are things you can do to portray that. Have the female's POV and have her inner thoughts be "This is great, I love it" while she pretends not to want it. If you don't have her POV, and it's from the guy's, show that by her actions. She'll call a friend/roomate and say not to worry, it's all consensual, it's roleplay, etc., so if that person hears them it's not a cause for alarm.

I sadly started to read Haunting Adeline with my partner, the first half of the book was honestly a bit enjoyable, certain things I could have gone without like the gun scene and other things but up into halfway through I thought the book was alright. I now have to trudge through the rest of the book, the repetitive scenes, the piss poor plot. This book struggles with identity a lot. This video came out at a perfect time as I am still quite unhappy with how the book handles abuse as there are ways to do it, but really just not good ones. It doesn't help how none of the side characters are likable so it's just insufferable bad boy stalker and the girl he's abusing. Sigh, definitely my first and last book I will ever buy from H.D. i wish booktok actually exposed well written books, and knew which category their smut is in.
i can get a better story on ao3, with an actual plot, tension, love, and not just 365 days the book version.
i don't understand how authors think the same sexual scenes on sexual scenes = good sexual scenes. it's not. it's boring and you don't need 800 pages of that.
by the way, I'm chill with their kinks, it's just not written in a real way that makes people that lived stuff feel safe.
i feel like those books are for 30yo women who've never read a fanfic, and lived a pretty boring life, they have no fear instinct it seems.
the craziest thing to do in bdsm is probably less fear inducing than booktok's recommended "romance" books.
not to add the random add ins of abuse? you can be dominant, but you have to ask and set boundaries. anything else screams "he's gonna kill me when I make him mad" (mostly when he has a hero complex and kills people (not even out of revenge))

booktok just makes me so sad..... these books romanticize abuse and are terrible examples for teenagers of any gender to be consuming bc they don't emphasize the creepy/abusive aspect (i'd respect them more if they made that BLARINGLY clear) for the naive and impressionable young readers.
the more time goes by the more im like "wait guys???? guys. you know what's hot and sexy, actually??? love. consent. kindness. respect. feeling comfortable and at ease. safety. can we do more of that, please???? PLEASE??????????? DID YOU GUYS FORGET HOW HEALING FLUFF/WHOLESOMENESS IS??? MENDS THE SOUL, IT DOES."
    - "but fluff is boring, no one dies!!!!" fair concern, small teenage child, very real concern. may i introduce you to: Angst That Doesn't Romanticize Assault™? you can have drama without abuse. you can have exciting without assault. you can have edgy without non-consenting relationships/stalking. messy/angsty happiness is better than toxic happiness.
dear younger teenagers (im 17 but i feel like ive lived ten lives): please try not to listen to the peer pressure of "wanting happiness/enjoying things is boring/uncool." Happiness and Kindness is quite possibly the coolest shit ever, fyi
P.S: really awesome video bro you're funny and real /gen 👍👍
