If any of you can get offended by any of Varg's comments, I don't know what to tell you. They're hilarious more than anything. They're not even passive-aggressive; they're like a child's silly rant. He's said some sh1tty opinion about Ukraine as well and I as a Ukrainian was more amused than offended. What sucks is that Filosofem is a legitimately good atmospheric black metal album. I can't stand the people who started Norwegian black metal but the music is good and influenced a lot of actually good people to make music. Look up Fascicide, Perpetually Pist, and Feminizer. Varg is a disgrace to the metal scene as well as the Nordic pagan community.
I absolutely LOVE that, in Lords of Chaos, a Jewish actor played Kristian "Varg" Vikernes. I bet Kristian wasn't overly pleased!

If you have a genuine interest in learning, you might consider starting with Bathory's "One Rode to Asa Bay" music video. The lyrics and images do a good job of showing the reasons why this music grew and why the historical figures behind this music have some popularity today. For the record, the early black metal musicians were and are Pagans. A gentle way of life that respects nature and women. This fact is indisputed in actual research.

Pretty much all alternative started as a counterculture, usually with Leftist ideologies for sure. Metal has always been weird though. It has such a "macho" and edgy sound that it attracted lots of aggressive men with aggressive opinions. Same with punk, and that's why boneheads came out of the skinhead movement. And some of the ideologies that came with leftist punkiness was stuff like anti-religion and anti-ruling class ideology which is a fast track to anti-jew ideologies with misinformation, and then anti-race ideology. Black metal has always been weird in general as well.
