Thank you for showing this. I was having difficulties getting it to work but now I got it working thanks to your video. Glad to find a new alternative to lastpass.
Hello Tom. Thank you for this video. I did also watch your previous introduction video for KeePassXC, that I recommend to everyone to watch as well (and it can be found in this video description). I have two questions I would like to ask you after watching both of these videos, for those who are using cross platforms, like Linux + Windows or Mac. Do you know if such users can also copy the database file from their Linux system, and just move it over to their "weird" system? How will you get your password in a scenario when you are using a mobile device?
The DB is just a file. You can copy it over to any system and open it. I use the file on Linux and Windows right now. There are apps for Android and iPhone as well.
Hi Tom. Thank you for the instruction. I have done as described but Clicking on KeePassXC-Browser icon results in this message, "Cannot connect to KeePassXC. Check that browser integration is enabled in KeePassXC settings." Clicking Reload does nothing. Any ideas how to fix this?
On windows, is what I am assuming you are talking about. The Standard is installed into a location, added to the start menu, and places the dll files into the system folders like regular installed applications. The Portable is all contains within a single folder so you can execute the application from that folder without making any system changes to your computer.
The browser extension doesn't like my Debian version of KeePassXC -which is too old even though I just downloaded it from Synaptic. This program is not very simple and I am losing my patience with it. Without it, LibreWolf seems almost unusable. It would be nice if devs made a short tutorial for any program they put out (I include both LibreWolf and KeePassXC here). This is the kind of frustration that turns people off to FOSS.
In Short comparison: Bitwarden is for those normie that have account like FB, Google, Insta, Twitter, etc and want some safe password manager. KeepassXC: is for those really into securing their password or have really sensitive account like Banks, some Secret service in tor that they only know, etc and not trusting those cloud PS manager tho. BW is safe tho don't get me wrong but its not for me
Also if you happen to mess up your linux installation or something else which leads to a broken system. How are we supposed to fetch the data that have been stored locally on Keepass XC?
What I do is keep the database on a USB or external hardrive. What you can also do is keep the database on a cloud service if that's what you wanna do.
this looks like it's secure but i prefer to write passwords onto a text document so i won't have to use any software.. i'm not saying using password managers are bad, i'm just saying i have my own way to manage passwords for multiple accounts because i tend to forget.
KeePassxc is basically the same thing as your notepad only difference is the password is encrypted on a database file which you can move that file whenever you need to.

Thank you, I had some problems integrating it with my browser for some reason, now it works fine, great tool.
This is one of the best Linux channel, except for the screaming parts, rest are all good.

Nice tutorial. Working for Brave, Chromium and Brave on Windows 10 and Arch Linux for me. Thanks
Dont use snap on Linux. The Browser Integration does not work due to sandbox Principle of snap
Awesome tutorial! You rock my guy!
Thanks for your work to support Linux.

Top tip...!!! Cheers Tom 👍
thanks. this vid totally gave me an overview on how the browser plug-in works. would like to see the android version (just browser plugin)
KeePass XC Browser Integration did not work for Brave browser ???
I prefer to use the autotype feature to fill in passwords rather than the browser extension.

i get that too
same problem, the Keepassxc is the AppImage version
Every browser needs an extension. Then what's the use of "global auto-type" feature? 🤔
so you need to manually copy paste each URL for it to give you the PW?
Great video but, I'm confused... what are the pros and cons about Browser integration vs AutoType. Thanks
What if is username and password are under different urls? Like amazon for example?
Should work fine, just use the URL from the specific page the login form is on.
what is the difference between the portable and standard version?

Offline is NOT a downside!

Try the flatpak version of KeePassXC
@@SwitchedtoLinux thanks. I miss CJ, btw

@@marconiandcheese7258 I'm on Debian. and sorry if my short comparison not helpful

A request - any chance you can do an update to your OpenMediaVault (OMV) install video? The most recent OMV video is from 2017. Thanks.
Actually, it is on my very shortlist to do an OMV video on a raspberry pi.

How safe is it? Having a third-party plugin in your browser that can access your database file? Somehow I am not so sure.
same

if you can access the sd card through your computer, yes.

Is LastPass trustworthy?
it is a private company that stores all your passwords in the cloud and it has been hacked in the past
@@SwitchedtoLinux also is there any way i can migrate my data from last pass to Keepass XC?
