Dude, this video just saved me money and improved my security. I was going to sign up for an online service because I didn't think the open source stuff worked across platforms. Now that I know I can use KeePassXC everywhere and keep it synced that's what I'll be doing.
i honestly believe syncthing may have just made my file syncing between pc and phone like a billion times easier. Thanks A LOT!
i have been using this for like 3 months and its so much better than bitwarden and the syncs between devices are lightning quick
I've been manually backing my passwords to Bitwarden and will later do it for KeePass. So glad to hear this, since Bitwarden's android app fcking SUCKS. It's so slow, the buttons don't even work so you can't even save ANYTHING on the phone. It's completely unusable. On Windows it's rather limiting and doesn't even have a dedicated space for email input, just for username and password. It's so tarded.
KeePass looks like the way to go.
Thank you for your video which explains a complete use case. This is what is missing for new users in the KeePass ecosystem ;) There are many different methods, so the important thing is to have full visibility on the tools used so using end-to-end open source applications is a very good thing! :)
i was searching for a decentralized password manager which works well on mac and mobile devices and found your video. Its really helpful. Thank you
been watching your videos for a while, i know about keypass for around 6 years and I'm very happy with that!
Thank you. 👏 My first try at setting up a decent password manager for my phone and PC. Was hard work following the whole process step by step but I managed to get it all working perfectly so I'm over the moon with the result. Really well made and comprehensive video!
thank you so much for introducing me to syncthing ! this video was my first introduction on how to set up syncthing as well as keepass. thank you so much. the pace at which you went through the steps in the video was enough for me to be able to follow through. thank youu!!
Thanks so much for a thorough look into automatically syncing KeePass between platforms. Personally I use KeePassDroid on my phone rather than KeePassDX, but Syncthing works just as well with it. Just as an FYI the Android Syncthing app has a setting to run it as a service, which means it will auto start and run in the background on your phone... so you don't need to run it manually when you restart.
I don't even know how did I get here but I've done it and it's a relief since I know it's permanent and it can't be strip from me tbh, also learned how to use syncthing in the process which seems ridiculously useful, thank you for taking the time to do it
Perfect! Amazing. A technical tutorial that actually works still at the time I see this.
I feel a "like" is not enough. Thank you for this awesome detailed guide
Awesome vid man. Been trying to wrap my head around syncthing to replace Dropbox, for ages. Thanks!
Absolutely the best tutorial i've seen in a long time, you're a life saver
Wow. Just "Wow". You, sir, are amazing.
Extremely helpful I was missing the SureThing.
Honestly dude ty so much. This is literally what i needed so much rn. Your tutorials are so fucking underrated and so good bro. And literally everytime the same you are uploading the best tutorials about things i need urgently in the moment.
That is excellent content. I was tired of trying to keep my keepass database updated and I was really close to subscribe an online service, but your video changed my mind
Thank you
Damn. Thanks a lot for this video. Everybody talks about keepass and no one talks about cross platform integration, backups and sync. +1 sub. 🤠
Nice ! Thanks for this video, exactly what i've been searching for !
Thank you!
Great video, really well explained. Works like a charm.
Incredible tutorial. I am a new viewer and am looking forward to more of your content.
Very good video, much thanks for it! Helped me set up and finally ditch ms autofill..
i came across this exact setup on my own and its great lol
Tip for making Syncthing start up with windows:
Hit windows key + r and type shell:startup
Your file explorer should open to a specific location (the location the video mentions...), now simply drag and drop the syncthing exe with your RIGHT mouse button to that explorer, it should bring up the context menu. Simply click create shortcut here and you're done. Syncthing will start with windows.
By the way: this works for any program.
I do this with Outlook, at work
Thank you for this in-depth guide to integrate these apps with each other!
One thing I did differently was download the portable version of SyncTrayzor instead, and set it up the same way as SyncThing.
This way, I'm able to run it as if it were a native Windows application, and even hide it in the icon tray upon closing (and I know there are software out there that can force apps to do this, but it's nice having it natively built in).
Thanks again for going through all that effort to compile everything into one video, and I'm sorry that you had to redo parts of the video again, I hate recording and talking for a while, only to realize I never clicked the Record button 😖
Another potential difference with self hosting is to have a server on a raspberry Pi OR on AWS or similar
Thank you so much for this video it saved me so much time!
Thanks man great video!!
thank you so much actually so helpful
Really helpfull video, thanks!
Great video! I use Nextcloud to keep my password database sync'd between PCs. On my Android tablet and phone I use Keepass2 Android which uses the built-in WebDAV to sync with Nextcloud directly. I don't need SyncThing for this.
Invaluable. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the most detailed guide on setting up the keepass,
But bro now you owe us one more favour ,
Please create a video on this syncthing utility, as it is a fully functional NAS like suite in itself.
amazing, thank you so much!
This is brilliant!
Thank you.
Thank you!!!
Thanks! everything worked like a charm except the autostart for Win11, to "fix" it enable 'use legacy console' in the shortcut settings (options tab)
Thanks for putting this together, I've had this idea in my head for years but never got around to setting it up.
I keep getting a "Could not read credentials" error when trying to open the .kdbx file containing my paswords on my phone.
Has anyone run into this issue?
26:00 blessing in disguise
Thanks you!
Thanks
🖤
Great video 👍 , But wanted to know about how well secure are the global discovery and relay servers. Couldn't exactly understand their working . Is TLS used and can the servers see data .
Maybe you could also explain exactly how the exchange takes place , coz i am not sure of how my data is being synchronized over the internet.
Coz then maybe we also need to add folder passwords which for which their is an option.
Let me know would be helpful 😄
Great video tutorial, can it be used from a linux pc??
Thanks’ for yours nice informative video. I have a issue regarding this. is it possible to synchronized with syncthing+keepass between 3 devices Laptop, Desktop pc & Phone ? If you have time to make new video about this issue , it will be great.
All autostart features etc. for syncthing and keepass are already in their own program settings.
Thanks
Is that Default Folder at the start of the setup important or can I remove it?
Does it require microsoft studio to install? it gives an vc dll error
My man! great video.
but I am facing confilicts in version while syncing the .kdbx files
EDIT: Solved this issue by changing File Versioning to - Staggered File Versioning
That alone is not fool proof (personal sad experience flashback 😪), but the new keepass versions have a compare and merge function activated by default. So every time the keepass vault is unlocked it compares the new version with the one it saved last time, and merges them, if differences occur.
What if my PC is turned off?! Will it also Sync after i start the PC?!
There has to be something better than synchthing. Not saying it's a bad solution, just a design flaw of KeePassXC
The desktop shortcut don't work for me. In mour browser you have after the adress something like "/#" or "/@" by me its yust the adress and it seems syncthing does not login.
it keeps starting as a terminal window even though i added the no browser and no console flags
Great videos but what about verification of authenticity sha chrcksum verification? You don't just trust stuff you doenload do you? Man in the middle etc have happened tooany times
Hello
Thanks for the great Video, but I've a little Problem
The Console refuses to disappear in Windows 11
I've tried multiple ways and it didn't work
can you please help!
OOh, found it
you've to go Properties to that created shortcut then options the check use Legacy Console
@@abdulsalamsstyle9933 Exactly what I was trying to figure out! Thank you :)
@@abdulsalamsstyle9933 Thank you!
20:45 Que asco, te aparecio el Xokas... 🤢🤮
Bro, ur phone looks too powerful. I have an Redmi 6A, in ram seems good, even, better than of yours, but, is a piece of s... Anyway, very good video, took my like and sub.
PD: Ur voice sounds like another 3 or 4 youtubers mixed xd (Pajno mainly)
You can also add in "Patterns and ignore" the following command 'ignoreDelete=true' to avoid losing the files, the only way to stop receiving it is to disconnect
How does Keypass fare up against Bitwarden?
Well, a simple Google shows that Bitwarden has plans. $10/yr and you get access to "advanced features" like 2FA -- Which you have here...
I like keepass since it's all your own data, though it does make for a pain if you have windows and ios since the only option most times is to use dropbox for hosting it. I use bitwarden since it's all automatic and the free plan is generous, I use other things for 2fa since I don't have many accounts which need 2fa.
The advantage of KeePass is above all to be able to manage a single file and to do whatever you want with it. Transfer it, copy it, synchronize it wherever you want.
Bitwarden is interesting if you create your own server. But very few people do it, otherwise how do you know that Bitwarden servers are not hiding something?
@@kunzisoft2957 I mean they’re a somewhat small company, they don’t have much reason to sell data or look through your passwords. Though KeePass is better if you’re paranoid about this.
@@locbac I don't think the size of a company indicates its philosophy. I think Bitwarden has good intentions because it provides open source code, which is a very good thing, and there should be many more companies with that line of thinking. But there's nothing to stop a private company from being bought out and monitoring server connections afterwards. So I don't think that paranoia about passwords is something that is unnecessary. And again, I'm not saying it's a bad solution, on the contrary, so I'm just throwing out a warning for people to understand what's at stake and choose the best tools for their use. You always have to choose between security and ease of use ;)
I bet he's talking about LastPass being paywalled.
syncthing is detected as malware. i dont know if i trust it.
It's a well known program tbh - False positives are a thing too
After doing a simple research, they were hit with a Common Vulnerability Exposure (CVE) in June 2023. I don’t know the extent of it yet, as I’m still looking into it before I get on board.
This guy's salty cause he got last passed lol 😂😂😂
Good news, I'm a bigger A-Hole than you. I kept watching after I realized you had no intention of giving any useful information. If you had only talked faster (were that possible) I would have gotten the idea sooner and saved myself some time.
