I used to go there when the K-4 was on display back in the 70's, 80's. I've done a lot of railfanning in PA thru the years. Now I'm retired and live right along the tracks of the NS. I've even worked for a railroad for a short time (Northern Central Railroad) tourist line still around in southern PA.
One of my favorite locations to watch trains JP, and the Cajon Pass. I remember the 1993 Southern Pacific derailment, Cajon Pass is very difficult deserving slope for locomotives. I hear the rail roads constantly checking the dynamic Brake, and other functional train operators.
Best time I ever had at Horseshoe was in the early 90's. I Climbed the steps at about 4 am and it was lightly snowing. Got to the top and just waited in the stunning silence. Eventually, I could hear a train working the hill. This was the days of the old EMD SD-40s and 45s ??. It went from dead silence, followed by growing intensity until the loco's rounded the curve and then slowly went silent again. What a hallowed place to be.
The lighting on the train was cool I lost count of the horn salutes. I am surprised that there were two trains that didn't give a horn salutes. Poor sports. The pusher is called a DPU, distributed power unit . Great video JP! I love night time train videos !
Went to Cresson PA today to buy an O gauge train for my collection and decided to go to the curve on veterans memorial highway. As I was driving down I could see and hear a train and when I got right before the tunnel that goes underneath I stopped to watch and take it all in. Truly amazing watching the train go around the curve then up the grade/mountain. Really impressive, will definitely be going back to see again and maybe go where you guys were, but the view from right under the tunnel was incredible.
Truly Enjoyed the Twilight Horseshoe Curve. I live in California and I live right next to a railroad. And there's a light rail track that runs through town and right next to it. The light rail runs until 12a.We get trains day and night. I am used to him I don't even wake up when they blow the horn😊 I enjoy watching the trains. That looks like a great view in the night! 🚂
Oh my goodness, the train activity is amazing there! I think the reason you went to Altoona is awesome, what an experience! Twilight at the curve is unbelievable, I think it would be fantastic to see in person! My count was right on, that was fun to do! You guys sure had a great time! Looks like the funicular will be up and running for you next time you go. Love your new shirts and your blanket looks nice and warm, and it's your blue color, perfect for you for sure! "The blanket brothers" love it, so cool and fun! The ending is fantastic! lol What a great video JP, thank you! 💙
Thanks Gayle. It was like being there for the first time. Being there at night is really neat and I was glad they sold blankets. Definitely looking forward to it next year.
What an awesome location. The after dark lighting was absolutely amazing. Not sure there is any man made sound greater than a train whistle. If I had active tracks near me, that is where I would most likely spend the majority of my off time. Was really cool. Thanks for the invite. Looking forward to seeing you in the next video. Until then stay safe and God bless. Steve in Oklahoma
Awesome! I've never heard of the nighttime event there! I'm still hoping to make it there someday! Awesome video JP! Thanks for bringing us along! Glad to hear RJ's doing better!👍
Growing up in Altoona, I can't tell you how many times I have been to the curve. As a young man it was a place to hang out at night and perhaps drink a few beers. There were no nighttime restrictions back then and now that I think of it, we might be the reason why they have one now. It is a pretty cool place. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for taking us along. That was cool seeing all those trains passing at the same time. I got the count right. I wasn't sure when I moved the one train from no horn to horn because the pusher blew the horn. I hope you have better luck with the funicular the next time you go there.
Loved the Twilight Horseshoe curve!! Just got to watch video, powers been off for 6 days because of Helene. I counted 5 horn blows!?! Thank you for sharing! Stay safe!💙
That was a lot of fun ....great seeing the gang again . Glad RJ feft better ! ..You caught some beautiful footage ! Thank you for sharing this unigue adventure ! 👍💙
Wait, wait, wait! Were those semi trailers on there? Finally! It uses so much less fuel to move the goods by train than by cab! Or the shipping containers that can be put right on flatbed trucks for final leg! I love to see it!
Would love to go to Horseshoe Curve. I want my dad to go along. He's getting a knee replacement in October so hopefully he'll be good for next year. And hopefully he won't have to worry about steps too.
Enjoyed the video very much, JP! I had counted 8. I loved seeing the funicular lit up in the evening and it’s always great to see the trains. Maybe you will go back and take us on the funicular in the future. Thank you for taking us along for this night time event; always much appreciated!! God bless…….🌝
This was pretty cool! The burning question for me is - how many cars are connected to the freight engine at any given time? I've never seen a train with that many cars behind it. Fabulous!! As always, thanks for taking us along with you on this enlightening journey. 🥰
RJ were glad your feeling welcome back buddy were glad to see you ok your so cool your smart your bright your itlgent and kind and sweet and caring and friendly and loving and hard working and on time and never late and your a great role model and mentor and teacher and tutor and father aand husband and stylish and fashionable and creative and talented and honest and loyal and faithful and trusting truthful and your generouse you would do anything for anyone and you have goals and dreams and aspirations and stars in your eyes and your smile lights up any room and you have a great head on your shoulders
Another great railfan moment is the elevated curve in Kingston Pa rite down the dike from Kirby park it's a nice panoranic view n u can get really close or under the bridge 😊
And can anyone tell me where the trains originate from and where they are going. Tried to follow the tracks on google and they seemed to end after a while going west and kept getting messed up going east after Tyrone.
Jp how is RJ doing is he getting better is he getting plenty of rest and drinking plenty of liquids is he taking his medicine has he made a doctor's appointments
@@JPVideos81 I checked out their website for the dates for next year.. i am going to have to check one of those out and invite my mom along. Scranton is one area of the state that I have never visited. Thanks for checking out altoona...its a nice area.
Anyway I think that you did a good job on this video I hope that they will have that exeralter fixed so makes it easier for people to go up horseshoe curve instead of going up 190 stairs. Mom says that you don't need to climb up the stairs to see the horseshoe curve that you can take highway and tunnel to the horseshoe curve. Is that true or can you please give me information how to get to horseshoe curve okay please and thank sincerely Christopher wright. Keep up the good excellent work 👍 on making these videos on the horseshoe curve and did I get it right 6 train horns? Well have a good day and have fun filming horseshoe curve. Keep up the good work 👍👏🏆
What did you think of Twilight at the Curve? Hopefully you counted along and your guess was close.
You talk too much.
Really enjoyed it ...looked like a lot of fun ! Yep ...counted 6 horns 👍
I stopped counting because I was too into the video lol Nice video

Other than Fostoria OH, the Pittsburgh line is the hottest place I’ve been to see a lot of trains.
The lighting on the train was cool

The fascination with trains, will never grow old as long as the trains are ah runnin’

The sounds of the trains can certainly be peaceful.

As a person with a disability the funaculer being down really sucks

I am from Altoona, and this brings back great memories. Thanks for the video!
The Great Cornholio! The perfect country and western song has trains in it.
Coolest of beans. Great fun. Thanks for bringing us along, JP

It's called intermodal. The trailers/container arrive on ship, then train and finally truck to their final destination.
I was there a few months ago! Can’t wait for 1361 to return to steam!
Awesome video Jason!!! I need not say more! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great place been there a few times over the years great to see RJ is somewhat better great video thanks Jay
Would love to go to Horseshoe Curve. I want my dad to go along. He's getting a knee replacement in October so hopefully he'll be good for next year. And hopefully he won't have to worry about steps too.
The funicular being down is really stopping more people from going. Fingers crossed it opens soon.
Beautiful.I love trains
6 individual trains that blew their horns
Cool video! You should try doing a long exposure photo at night so the train makes a long blurred light trail around the horseshoe.
I may try that in the future. Thanks for checking out the video.
Thanks that place was awesome I enjoyed watching
Thanks joan

we counted 5 . Noah loved it . thanks for sharing . ❤❤ stay safe love ya
Choo choo
Rj you know what you want out of life ok your number one in my book

I'm glad A J is feeling better.
Been there before and it's cool that we plane it on the weekend when we're cut stay to after dark
It's beautiful there at night.
I think it would be an awesome experience, Jay. I remember that place and so much to see there.
6 trains that blew their horns.
Look amazing! Even more so when your with friends 🙂
I counted 6 trains that sounded their horns 😁
Nicely done
Central California watching
👀😊
@JPVideos81
I'm praying for Barbara Bray and everyone in Florida
When I was there, I counted 194 steps myself. Loved it there. I will be going back.
Hopefully we can plan on a day together.

We were there in August and they were testing the funicular also. Doing 194 steps in August was an accomplishment!
It's a workout
My guess 5 horns.. This was a neat video
8 trains and 6 horn toots 💙
If you pay for a sleeper on Amtrak, why do they keep waking me up by blowing the horn?
I’ve rode one and you can’t even hear the horn unless you really listen.
I was there in August and they need to do some brush removal on both sides of the curve to open up the views
Another great railfan moment is the elevated curve in Kingston Pa rite down the dike from Kirby park it's a nice panoranic view n u can get really close or under the bridge 😊
Maybe I'll check it out sometime.
What about the horseshoe curve in Caliente California?
I have only seen it once but there were 2 engines in the front and 1 engine in the middle and then 2 engines in the back.
DPU's I see you...
👀
So cool I counted 7
JP, obviously Conrail is your favorite RR. Do you have some affiliation with Conrail? Why Conrail?
It was the first train company I witnessed operating as a kid and I love the color blue.
Saw this when I was 10!!
Beautiful stone construction!
I kept forgetting what the previous count was. I think I counted 7 or 8.
I counted 6 honks.
And can anyone tell me where the trains originate from and where they are going. Tried to follow the tracks on google and they seemed to end after a while going west and kept getting messed up going east after Tyrone.
Harrisburg, PA to Ohio
Jp how is RJ doing is he getting better is he getting plenty of rest and drinking plenty of liquids is he taking his medicine has he made a doctor's appointments
Incline was closed 2 years ago when there. Stated waiting for inspection Q
Apparently it's now open
What direction is that Amtrak going? Philly or Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh
I live 5 mins from there...I never knew they hosted a twilight. Its been years since I visited there. JP... where r u from?
Near Scranton. I'll be back next year for another twilight night.

And when you should have a 360 📸
I'm personally not a fan of 360 cameras
World famous? Never heard of it and I'm a railfan.
I counted 6 horns from 6 different trains even thou their was a lot more of trains went by I couldn't believe that engineers didn't blow their horns

👍👏👍👏🏆
There's roads in the area, but to get to the same area as seen in this video it's either by steps of funicular when it's operating.
@@JPVideos81 okay thank you have a good day and keep up the good excellent job making this video. Keep it up 👍😊👏🏆
I saw a video about what orange chicken is made out of.They said it's rat meat and chicken.Just saying.
I certainly hope you got permission to do that. That’s called trespassing and you can be arrested for that.
Permission for what?
