I love how this Peter Parker isn’t a kid who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. He’s a man who willingly chooses to get bit by the spider and reclaim the fate that was meant for him decades prior. Jonathan Hickman added his own flavour to Spidey’s iconic origin that really makes it stand out among other iterations and it’s by far my favorite thing about this issue.
Jonathan Hickman, and let's be honest..the entire set of teams he works with because the illustrations in his adaptations are just as amazing as his writing, has solidified himself as my fav comic writer of my generation.
I really thought Uncle Ben was going to give Peter the "With great power, comes great responsibility." line at the end of their conversation; but I guess "I love you, son." is just as endearing.
Gotta admit, that last scene had me wiping my eyes but grinning like an idiot. 😭😍 That has to be one of the BEST written scenes we've had in a while. I've been wondering how they would deliver on the premise of rebooting the Ultimate Universe, and Hickman (as always) nailed it right outta the atmosphere!
This is some Grade A writing. I’m glad Peter is like happy to be pursuing his destiny as Spider-Man. Whereas in the main universe it seems like he’d be so much better off without being Spider-Man
Plus, Robbie is still working with Peter in the Bugle. Also, I'm okay with Robbie's choice. It's a more mature spot that I actually understand these days, even if it would have annoyed me as a teen. I get it, and Ben really put it into perspective as well. You make the choices that are best for where you are in life and who those choices support or hinder.
Thank you, Jonathan Hickman. For finally giving us a Peter Parker who has a family. And his uncle still around who's great friends with John Jonah Jameson.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! I’m from the UK and pre ordered it off Amazon for Kindle and it came at 12:05 at midnight and read it early basically. I loved this. I love the theme of the book which is about starting anew. JJJ and Uncle Ben (who’s reveal was so so good) quit the Bugal and are starting their own thing. I love this universe’s dynamics already. I love MJ and Peter and how they are supportive and just know each other in and out. Ben and JJJ seem like strong friends who stick with each other. JJJ and Peter have a great caring relationship on looking after each other. It’s amazing. I love how Peter here CHOOES to be bitten. It’s a great twist on the origin on how Peter feels its destiny to see the world and help out and be more and sees that through MJ, JJJ and Uncle Ben (who’s the most interesting character here for me there is something more to him) Love the book, can’t wait to see how Peter being Spider-Man changes things
I can fully appreciate how Hickman is fleshing out each character so that we can become invested in them rather than how in the last run of the Ultimate Universe.
A universe where Peter Parker is actually happy with a loving family and Uncle Ben is still alive? I don't care if this breaks the canon, Jonathan Hickman needs to keep cooking.
What I like about Spidey is that most portrayals of him he is upper mid tier in power not underpowered nor overpowered but usually fittingly powered yeah.
Yeah but I hope they don't overdo it. I've been over Venom for decades, and he just keeps getting worse. Cates' fan-wank of Venom and that ridiculous Knull was the last straw for me. They were doing so well with Agent Venom, and now suddenly Venom is s a freaking GOD. Give me a break.
@@DavidJohnson-td5ic omg I really don’t like that either. I’m pretty sure Hickman is just going to make a venom vastly different but in a good way also the dynamic between Peter and when he first gets the symbiote in this universe will be so different. I’m here for it.
Something i noticed and has been bugging me since i saw this video: Jonah's words are foreshadowing Tony's speech to Peter. Tony did not lie to Peter, but he did not tell him the truth. He didn't say anything about Peter never marrying, having 2 children, a nice apartment, Uncle Ben dying through Peter's own inaction, or Peter himself dying at a young age because something learned who he was under his hero mask, all because he had become a super hero. I can't help but wonder how much weight those words of Jonah's will carry going on.
I have every faith that Hickman will do Spider-Man justice; cause it's easy to forget that he's done it before on his run on the Fantastic Four when he had Parker join them as part of the team...plus the conversation he wrote between Parker and Franklin Richards after Johnny Storm died was touching indeed. So yeah, Spider-Man is in good hands with Hickman =)

Really hoping this version sticks around for a long while. Miles was a happy surprise that last time around in the Ultimates universe hoping this new Peter Parker is just as impactful.
You are thinking of The Bar With No Doors, The Bar With No Name is a long time hangout for crooks and low-tier super-villains, The Enforcers, Shocker, Boomerang, etc.
Grew up on Ultimate Spider-Man practically DAY ONE back in 2000. I remember getting that large Vol. 1 "Power and Responsibility" at the mall and just being on the lookout for whole Volumes and arcs at various book stores throughout the years. Wasn't sure how to feel about them essentially restarting the Ultimate Universe with these twists, but this? I read the first issue, I'm beyond happy feeling like I'm catching up with an old friend I haven't seen in years, and I'm looking forward to what other directions they'll take this!
Honestly I'm all about this. I was kind of tired of always seeing a teenager. Get super powers. I really want to see a grown adult who's go through highs and lows of life and maturity And get powers in their mid to late 30s, possibly even 40s And what would come with getting abilities at that age
So we’re getting an older Spiderman with a wife and kids, and uncle Ben?! Oh I’m so locked in, I just hope peters life doesn’t become tragic too quickly
For a moment I thought the black orb in the other orb was gonna be the black suit. Can you imagine if Tony said "We were not able to get you the radioactive spider. But we were able to compensate" and gave him the black suit. Imagine if the story revolved around the responsibility of the suit while Peter was powerless until he gets bitten by the spider later on. I fully trust in Hickman and I know this is going to be something special.
I know but I'm more thinking the writing possibilities of a Peter who instead of getting bitten got the black suit and possibly has to recreate the spider before the symbiote goes out of control or something
The only problem I have with Hickman is that he is a very *big* author. He needs massive storylines to be able to flex his writing muscles. I have a lot of faith that this may be among the greatest Spider-Man series ever, but I will be cautious in engaging with it, given how much different it is from the Heroism I expect from Peter Parker. Long Live The Spider-Totem.
Honeslty, I don't really think Hickman needs massive storylines to be able to flex his writing muscles. And even then, this is his Ultimate universe, so expect the writing to be good.

I am so excited for this. I hate to admit it but I fell out of love with Marvel and DC really hard because of the ridiculous nature of the lack of continuity and character development. But, this has got me hopeful most of all since Spider-Man is a huge part of my life. Hickman is probably the perfect writer for this new run of Ultimate Spider-Man and I can’t wait to see where the story goes next! Damn. It’s weird to see Peter Parker older but not old. Like most Peter’s are either teens, mid 20’s or old Men. Very rare to have a middle aged Parker who’s 38-45 years old.
I swear, Uncle Ben better not die in this universe. Marvel Editorial just HATES Peter. And the Ultimates universe will definitely give them an excuse to make gjm suffer more because that universe is just if Marvel & DC's dark tone problem. Or, it used to be, I'll be shocked if the Ultimates universe's darkness is completely gone.
First thing i thought when reading the title, "Noooo please stop! Leave Spiderman alone already!!", im so tired of what they constantly do to my boy Peter.
I've never fully read Miracleman but this sounds alot like Miracleman and I'm all for Spider-Man being that type of character. Hopefully they double down and have this Spider-Man be all mighty enough to go the Miracleman route, lead the Ultimates to a new world order and contemplate his role in that and his family.
Is there a trade that I can pick up to learn more about the ultimate invasion story? Any recommendations for things to read before this issue? I’m new to all of this and just picked up Ultimate Spider-Man 1. I liked where this is headed!
I'm hoping it was just done a little awkwardly. The author's goal is probably to have Robbie at the Bugle, as inside support for Peter. Given how well the story is going I'll definitely withhold any judgment on Robbie's character.
Peak! Also, I watch both ComicsExplained and Comicstorian cover this issue. I find it ironic that Rob took JJJ's line about talking about his feeling with Uncle Ben literally, while Benny didn't recognize the priest was Matt Murdock.

Hey Rob, can you do a video on Madame Webb? Since the trailer dropped, I would love to see a comic explained video on her.
12:48 Sorry Rob but the magic bar ur talking about is The Bar with no Doors
The Bars with No Name is the one where most supervillains hang out
First thing i thought when reading the title, "Noooo please stop!
This is what we ever wanted ever since before the One More Day. Peter having a happy life with MJ and two kids ❤️😊🕷️
Is there a trade that I can pick up to learn more about the ultimate invasion story? Any recommendations for things to read before this issue? I’m new to all of this and just picked up Ultimate Spider-Man 1. I liked where this is headed!
It's already building up to be the best Spider-man run as of the recent 2-3 years.
I'm definitely not blaming anyone... *cough* Paul *cough*
While yes I was thrown by Robbie’s portrayal. As a lifelong Spider-Man fan I’m loving this alternate universe take.
I'm hoping it was just done a little awkwardly. The author's goal is probably to have Robbie at the Bugle, as inside support for Peter. Given how well the story is going I'll definitely withhold any judgment on Robbie's character.
I noticed that every Spiderman never gets the happy ending. His the ultimate underdog
Very cool! Also a unique story to him becoming spider-man!
...you had me at Jonathan Hickman 🤘
Hooked, can't wait for next Spidey one.
"There's no Truth in the News, and no Newd in the Truth."
It was such a good read! I bought like 4 variants 🎉
I am a little shocked by what Robbie said but he is also being realistic.
I loved this reboot thanks for the coverage 👍
Peak!
Also, I watch both ComicsExplained and Comicstorian cover this issue. I find it ironic that Rob took JJJ's line about talking about his feeling with Uncle Ben literally, while Benny didn't recognize the priest was Matt Murdock.
