- The sensational pop singer Laura Branigan was invited to the TV program "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson." This was her second appearance in this legendary and popular American late-night talk show. At the height of her music career, still with "Self Control" and "The Lucky One" on the Billboard Hot 100 chart after peaked at #4 and #20 respectively, Laura made a powerful and exciting live performance of "The Lucky One" with her tour band. After that, she talked with Johnny about her nervousness from being on the show with him that night, her shyness in childhood and adolescence, her discovery of the singing as a way to express herself, her marriage with an older men (Laurence Ross Kruteck, her husband, by then 47 years old) and the reasons of that preference for men over 40. Then she returning to the stage to made a touching performance of "Ti Amo" receiving a great, incessant and affectionate ovation from the audience to which she responded by blowing kisses. Finally, she come back again to talk with Johnny and said she finished her "Self Control Concert Tour" in USA (with two shows at the Caesars Tahoe in Lake Tahoe, Nevada on September 21 and 22, 1984) and that she was to do a promotional tour in Europe. There was a funny moment when the topic of her speaking low and husky voice after singing came to the conversation. Episode aired on Tuesday night September 25, 1984. Enjoy and share!

Thanking you for posting Lara! She gave us nothing but her best as a performer and we are blessed to see her with us by these magical performances. Also, thank you Johnny Carson for providing this outlet and your professionalism. Both of you are remembered. Bless you both, immensely!
🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
One of a most underrated singer,s from 80-s 💪
Ti Amo, Lara! Loving you forever! Thank you for your contributions to the world of music. Never are you forgotten l. The same gratitude to Johnny Carson for bringing these exceptionally talented performers into our hearts, minds, and very souls.
Laura, you are truly missed... what a voice!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
One of the most underrated voices in music history. Rest in paradise, Queen.
Such breathtaking beauty inside & out. You may be gone lady but fortunately we still have your music & performances to watch & by the sounds of it you have a huge fan base on earth. Bless you. Love you forever ❤️❤️❤️
Wow, I guess I had never seen her interviewed before, I had no idea that she was so shy and awkward when she wasn't on the stage. For anybody who wasn't around in the 80's, it was a real treat for us back then to see somebody actually perform live as most performances back then were just the artist lip syncing to the radio recording of their song. Every so often you'd get a live vocal with the band pretending to play the music. But in this case you got live band AND a spectacular live vocal.
Her husky voice is very much appreciated and cute
Love her so much and I've only known her for like a year.
Such great stage presence, voice and smile.
Met her when was 20 dream came true she most beautiful soul dream come true been listening since forever

Personalmente?
This was when the Tonight Show was the Tonight Show. As always, Laura with the powerful expressive voice.
Johnny was such a great interviewer; it was always about the guest, not himself (*cough Kimmel *cough).
Her voice ❤
Laura's voice was so filled with emotion.

Fantastic performance, what feeling and emotion, pure heart and soul so beautiful. I'm crying here. If I'd been the host of this programme I would have had to grab hold of Laura and give her such a hug. Rest in Peace Laura, keep singing in Heaven.
One of the very greatest american singer, and so humble and lovely, really unforgettable, and Carson such class act, vivan los ochenta!
What a talent ! RIP Laura and Johnny!
I have been following your songs for many years your songs always make me feel great I have a wish to get her autograph once but it's impossible because you and I are very far from Vietnam and I know it's very difficult and I was very sad I was so different 😭😭
She’s very natural, no airs at all, and love that her hair is just in disarray and she doesn’t care about it! The gentlemen were obviously enchanted♥️ I was smitten as well. Heard her songs when I was in High school in the 80s, however the songs were a bit cringy and tacky to my liking. Her beautiful looks were the only ones going for me back then. Today I have much appreciation and respect to her music and her unassuming personality (which i only discovered in these interviews , thanks youtube) ! The heavens are in “ Gloria”, always have been anyway🙏🏼😅
Beautiful song self control thank you Laura❤💜💙💛💚❤

What is the correct date of Laura's birth? 1952 or 1957 year?
@Eddie Styles Ok. Thank you
How can the band play in the dark like that?

Near the GOD
gee you can tell she partially lost her speakin voice but she was still able to perform
I heard that Johnny Carson would only allow Singers to perform live, no lip syncing. I am glad because you can see that Laura Branigan had a good singing voice. I seen many videos of of her lip syncing to her own music. I just like seeing singers sing live when they were in their prime. I seen live performances of Laura Branigan in the 1990’s and her singing wasn’t as good.
When Laura performed in other countries she tended to sing live.
Of course her singing in the 90s wasn’t as good. Her husband was dying from cancer and eventually passed away in the mid 90s, and then her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and she had to care for her.
The voice is inside the body and is affected by everything we feel. Grief and depression can suck all passion and energy out of a singer, which are two of the most important ingredients along with technique to sing well.
@@bonotoon5273 NO, I am talking about how she sounded more like an opera singer and seemed to have lost the raspiness in her voice. She just sounded different.
@@heavenknows4857 she didn’t lose her raspiness in the 90s.
She just sounded more tired and “off,” which is understandable considering what she had to endure.
Who is Laura branigin?
Wow, these questions are really sleazy on Johnny Carson's side. I also find the audience laughing to be really unsettling. Amazing live performances however!
I really love Laura but this is not 1 of her better performances. The puffy cheeks? A little criticism is all. She is still a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice. ❤️
The female version of Elvis.
Am I just not used to her, or did she seem somehow distraught or out of sorts? And IMO they couldn't have chosen a worse, less catchy first song for her
