@@DrJones20 How on earth was Cuba a showcase of strength? He fucked up with the decision regarding the Bay of Pigs Invasion, and by the end of the whole ordeal of the Cuba crisis, he surrendered American nuclear warheads in Turkey and Italy.
@@marctaddei7524 Because the American public didn't know that the warheads had been removed from Italy and Turkey. But they did know that the Russian presence (including nuclear missiles) had left Cuba and therefore the US was safe again. At the time it made Kennedy look strong, whilst Khrushchev (Russian leader) appeared weak and was removed from power later.
@Joel Schembri There is no doubt that the Bay of Pigs incident was a blot on modern American history. But, Kennedy handled the Cuban Missile Crisis as well as anyone at the time could have: he removed the Russian presence (which affected their relationship with Cuba), promoted Russian political instability in the Cold War (Khrushchev was deposed), and saved not just Americans, but the world from a nuclear fallout. Kennedy made the Cuban Missile Crisis such a hassle and embarrassment for the Soviet Union (since the public didn't know about the missiles in Europe) that it insured that such a monumental display of war-aggression never happened again in the Cold War. You may disagree with his politics, or his image, or the way he is remembered, but it is impossible to deny that this would be the crowning moment in any person's political life.

Unfortunately, as much as I admire JFK, if he had lived, he would have the reputation LBJ has today if he had lived through the end of what would've been his second term in 1969. Of course, if he lost re-election in 1964, things would've been different for sure. I definitely think JFK was a good president, and I don't think LBJ handled Vietnam properly, but I think LBJ is better than we realize. Of course, I'm biased as I am distantly related to him, but LBJ really wanted Americans who weren't well-off to be in a better situation. It's just insane to think that only three Democrats have served as president since him-Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama.
I think despite his flaws as a person, and the mythical legend built through his death, Kennedy genuinely cared about the Nation he was elected to govern. That's good enough for me.

By age JFK was the second youngest president. But the youngest president ever elected was JFK. Teddy Roosevelt became President in 1901 after the assassination of William McKinley. He wasn't elected until 1904.

I grew up during that period of history.
John F Kennedy:
1. Supported NASA and went to extensive means to establish our lead in the exploration of space and control of low earth orbit space for strategic dominance globally.
2. Established the Peace Corps and asked for volunteers to aid in helping struggling nations in a widely accepted humanitarian relief program.
3. He spoke of peace and with him war would be the last option.
4. He and his brother Bobby took on organized crime in this country.
5. He stood fast against USSR placing nuclear missiles in Cuba. (Something later accomplished after his death.)
6. He was a decorated war hero.
7. Many of his political failures were due to opposition forces. His secret society speech might shine some light on that. It is nothing that hasn't happened to this day.
8. He was against direct involvement in Viet Nam but had a covert operation as a possibility. He was after all a Cold War president and many of the policies he continued were in play during Eisenhower.
9. He was inspirational to many and gave great speeches. With the full effort implementation of NASA, our nation led in all of the sciences with a 35 year technology lead. Medical, computer and rocket technology led the world as a result. He was an impetus for that innovation.
10. When we walked on the moon, the world was in awe. I remember an Australian newspaper stating in bold headline, "The Yanks did it!"
Compare that to what we have today and in the years that followed.

Jamie Owns Ok first off he didn’t die on TV, it was coincidence that Zapruder and Nix happened to be there to film his fateful ride down elm street. Kennedy not only funded NASA, but promoted the idea and promised the Americans that a man would land on the moon before the century ended, had not all that endorsement from Kennedy had happened, your German scientist would have probably been laying in his grave when we landed a man on the moon.
Let's all agree that NASA was just more of a political move than the "advancement of science". All of this took place during the cold War with the USSR.

I think you have mentioned it all. The short time he was President prior to his assassination, he has done so much. They will always bring up documentaries, videos, etc about this President. No one wants to let it die. Everyone enjoys all the literature, all the photos. There is not a time when something comes up about President Kennedy to either read or watch a video that I don't stop for a moment to view it again. My family was absolutely heartbroken after the assassination. Everyone cried. Those four days in November, 1963 - the world stopped. This is something that I will never forget. He was loved very much.

The pressure on him to attack Cuba during the Missile Crisis was all but irresistible, and yet he resisted it. He very likely saved the entire planet from destruction. I would say that puts him right up there among the great Presidents, regardless of his very human failings in other circumstances.

Both Khrushchev and Kennedy resisted pressures from their inner circles to escalate the situation, and, that saved the planet from almost certain destruction. Kennedy was later assassinated, and Khrushchev was deposed a couple of years later by the politburo who felt that his handling of the Cuban missile crisis was an embarrassment to the USSR. He was one president who received a lenient treatment after he was deposed with a dacha and a pension granted to him. In a 1998 survey conducted in Russia, many Russians felt that Russia's best times in the 20th century were under him and Tsar Nicholas II. Whatever the failings of these two men, they managed to prevent world war III somehow.

@ken kennedy--Had President Kennedy not been assassinated in Dallas on that sad day in 1963, he would have been faced with events that LBJ dealt with later in that decade. Had he survived, in my opinion, he would likely have been considered a mediocre president. It's also notable that he hid some serious health problems during his campaign for U.S. president. Had he not done this, it would be quite likely he wouldn't have won the '60 presidential election.

Nixon wouldn't have allowed the Russians into Cuba in the first place. In every way, Nixon was immeasurably better than Kennedy in 1960, however flawed he might have been years later.
Apart from the good looks and charisma, the man genuinely cared about America and was pretty smart. Read Profiles in Courage, very underrated book.
SHAWN SHAARI - He opposed ending segregation in the schools and voted against Eisenhower’s Civil Rights Act in 1957. His party was never for equal rights for blacks. Take a look at his voting record at his online library for the truth. Its why MLK marched against JFK in Washington.

At the end of the day JFK was human, like the rest of us. Even with all his flaws he is loved by many, and rightfully so. Gone are the days when presidents worked for the people. It ended on that day in Dallas.

At the end of his life, Kennedy created National Security Action Memorandum 263, calling for the withdrawal of 1,000 advisers and troops by the end of 1963. NSAM 263 also called for a phased withdrawal of all remaining US personnel in Vietnam to be completed by 1965. Kennedy was supposed to sign the final draft of NSAM 263 when he returned from Dallas. Instead, LBJ became President upon Kennedy’s assassination, and escalated the war in Vietnam.

JFK still rings true to me. My mom (RIP), despite not speaking a word of English, understood exactly who he was and what he stood for. Through her spanish radio stations in Central California, she gleaned everything about what was going on in the world and she held a deep respect for him bc it made her feel secure in knowing there was someone in our capital that was all about guiding our country through the complicated entanglements of the time! Unfortunate that we are left feeling exactly the opposite with what we've got in the Oval Office and the Senate today!

You are correct. The fact that Kennedy donated his salary from his 13 years serving in the House and the Senate to different charities is truly admirable. He also donated his Presidential salary to charities like the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, The United Negro College Fund, and The Cuban Families Committee. This shows that he was in the job because he genuinely cared.

But, he inspired us, tried to bring our people together as one nation, gave us confidence in ourselves, and hope for the future. I joined the Peace Corps because of him and it was the best experience of my life. Kennedy also had the highest average approval rating of any President since FDR, at 70.1. I feel very fortunate having lived through his Presidency. Our country has certainly not been the same since.

JFK was a strong and vigorous person though, ever heard about his time in ww2 and PT-109? He saved and lead his men from a sinking ship. He was a great swimmer and helped those swim who could not. All while being scratched up by coral and having severe back pains.
Not to mention ty daily suffering that came with his failing health. When he was originally running for congress, he walked door to door around Massachusetts. He’d go go second story homes having to walk up flights of stairs and his back was in so much pain he had to limp. He never let those health problems get in the way.

It is not knowable exactly how history would judge JFK had there been no assassination. He certainly would have beaten Barry Goldwater for a second term, but with civil rights still stalled past 1964, those riots that ensued might have been an outright civil war. The Vietnam War would have gone largely the same way; the ill-conceived Truman Doctrine mandated us into to that mess regardless of who was president. Second terms rarely are successful and with far fewer civil rights and social policy accomplishments than LBJ rapidly amassed, I shudder to think about how much more turbulent the late '60s would have been.
Vietnam would not have gone the same way. Eisenhower warned of the military industrial complex.Why do you think JFK was murdered? And he was printing Kennedy notes to eliminate the power of the Federal reserve. No President has done that since, or dared too. And I would say his test ban treaty doesn't get the attention it deserves. The Civil Rights Act was his Bill.

When JFK was assassinated, I was nine years old and in the fourth grade. I remember the lying in state, the state funeral, and the like. I also remember the huge outpouring of grief from around the world.
JFK was okay. He treated other nations with respect, he handled the Cuban missile crisis skillfully, and he signed the nuclear test ban treaty. A forward-looking fellow.
I think he would’ve did a lot more heroic shit if they hadn’t of killed him. I honestly believe JFK woulda been a 2 term president and help support MLK to end segregation in his 2nd term. Sounds crazy but that guy cared for all people not just his people and that was a uncommon trait for a president to have back in 1963.

The joint chiefs of staff, all the military advisors were pressuring him to invade Cuba. But, he had listened to them during the Bay of Pigs and felt that they'd lied to him about the Cuban ex-pat army having a chance of succeeding on their own, when they planned that JFK would authorize US troop involvement once it got going. JFK used his own initiative to seek out alternative options and prevented nuclear war. If JFK did nothing else, his handling of that crisis makes him one of the best Presidents on its own.

I was in my classroom in Las Anod, Somalia, when suddenly my American peace corps volunteer teacher came rushing into the class the morning after and told us that JFK was assassinated yesterday in Dallas, Texas. The news shocked us all in an unprecedented fashion. Even today, this tragedy is so imprinted in my mind and will never go away, because of two things, in my opinion: he was a great world leader who supported the developing countries of those days in their tentative steps towards democracy. And secondly, he was the one who sent us the unforgettable American peace corps volunteers to teach us in school. May God bless his soul.

I was originally one of the doubting Thomases. To be sure, JFK had his faults (don't we all). But I first knew we were in the presence of greatness when, after the Bay of Bigs fiasco, a reporter asked Kennedy who was to blame. "I'm President," he said, then added "I'm responsible." In fact, it wasn't entirely his fault, but he was big enough to accept responsibility. A sickly young man, he nevertheless insisted in serving during World,War II, never invoking special privilege. It's easy to understand why JFK was touted a "great president." It was largely because of the tragic fate he met. As for his "charisma" that was just a code name for young and handsome.
However, as a black man, I will always respect him for delivering his famous civil rights speech in '63. He candidly lashed out at the hypocrisy of American society for its shameful history of subjugating blacks, despite the fact that America claimed to be "the land of the free." By being so outspoken about the mistreatment of blacks, and alienating many Southerns in the process, he was risking re-election, but nevertheless he courageously spoke his conscience.
Every November 22nd, I pay tribute watching videos of JFK since the assassination. This I will never forget. A very sad day for the entire world. JFK RIP❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Check out his voting record online at his library. You’ll be shocked. MLK even marched against JFK because he pandered the black vote to win against Nixon by 118,127 votes.

Kennedy wanted to make civil rights happen early in his presidency, but to make anything happen, a president had to be able to work with Southern Democrats. That was easier said than done.

What Kennedy did in world war II that made him a hero took amazing strength and endurance to save his crew .This show or video leaves out how he got into world war II and he didn't have to do that. He lied his way in to fight . That alone takes courage and is part of his makeup. I will argue that any man who fails the physical for the Navy due to his ailing back yet is willing to do anything he could to join the fight is my kind of guy. That's strength of will did not quit. I couldn't do that and I don't know anybody that could ,certainly no President we ever had. He saved those men because of his will and heroic actions and leadership at a very very young age.
