  • 015 - Solutions
    In this video Paul Andersen explains the important properties of solutions. A solution can be either a solid, liquid or gas but it must be homogeneous in nature. The solutes can not be separated with a filter and so either chromatography or distillation must be used. Molarity is the number of moles of a solute in a solution. A simple molar solution preparation is also included.

    Thanks so much. I am only teaching Biology this year. However since AP Chemistry is using a new curriculum this year I figured that it would be a good time to create some Chemistry videos. It has been a lot of work but I have also learned a ton. I will pass on the thank you to my wife. I think she is awesome as well.

    My AP Chemistry teacher taught us a good way to remember the difference between a solute and a solvent. A solute- u dissolve, solvent-dissolver... match up the u's and the v's. I also want to say that I really appreciate you putting these videos up, it's really helping me review what I just reviewed by looking at my notes. Thanks so much :)

    Thanks a lot. Seriously, Mr. Anderson, you are doing a great job. It is really awesome and very very helpful. By the way, how can you teach biology as well as chemistry. You're sure a genius. Can you teach physics too?
    P.S Thanks to Mrs. Anderson also for all the work she its doing behind the screen.

    Lab: added distilled water to MgO. Liquid was opaque white. Looked pretty smooth. Tested with Litmus and found it to be a base. I looked this up and everything I found says MgO is not soluble in water. Why? If it wasn't soluble, why did it change the litmus paper?
    Added CuCO3 green powder to distilled water. First the water turned green and I thought it had dissolved. Litmus papers didn't change except the blue Linus was a little purplish at the edges. The powder seemed to separate from the water after several minutes. Does this mean it wasn't soluble?

    What does 'AP' mean??

    • @ninjarider2941
      @ninjarider2941 7 лет назад +4

      AP stands for Advanced Placement. An AP Chemistry class has more material, including more math, in contrast with a standard course. There is a Wikipedia article on 'AP Chemistry.' Some U.S. colleges accept good high school AP test results as a substitute for introductory college level classes. I think it's similar to A Level courses in England.

    air scatters light, therefore it's not a solution. we know air scatters light because the sky is blue but the light from the sun is white.

      the dust particles in the air scattters light it's not the air which scatters light
