Hypertonic, Hypotonic and Isotonic Solutions!

- This video is a review of hypotonic, hypertonic and isotonic solutions, how they lead to plasmolysis, cytolysis and dynamic equilibrium. In addition to tonicity, the video also covers concentration gradients, solutes and solvents, and whether you should drink salt water in a survival situation.
Remember that "hypertonic", "hypotonic" and "isotonic" are all relative terms (like "bigger" or "shorter"). A hypertonic solution is saltyER than something else (in this case, the cell that's placed in it). It might not be very salty at all, it just has to be MORE salty relative to another solution or object.
These concepts are extremely useful in medicine. IV fluids, for instance need to be the correct tonicity in order to achieve the desired effects.

Magic! Just kidding. I put a lot of time and effort into presenting the material as clearly and efficiently as possible. I plan it all out before recording; I write an outline, then a script, decide on examples, plan the diagrams, record and animate everything, then edit out anything that still feels too off-topic once I can see the whole thing together. Giving a lecture in real time is way harder; it's easy to ramble or choose lousy examples on the fly, and you can't edit afterwards!

I love the explaination and how smoth the video was done. The little cells were super cute!!! I was hung up on why the salt was not going out or in the cells when water follows salt and there was salt still in the cell. Now I understand that the membrane is not permeable enough because salt is a bigger solute and that because there is more salt solutes outside the cell they will move outwards, or vise versa.
