Christopher Baskey Let’s be fair though, that’s only because he knew Chris personally. Police need to be neutral when investigating a person and not let themselves be swayed by the opinion of family members and friends. Of course, witness accounts are taken into consideration, but they can’t act like that’s evidence alone. Neighbor Nate could have had a negative bias against Chris already, and the police can’t just take someone’s word and leave it at that. Even if Nate was right, the police were only doing their job by going through the established procedure and due diligence. “Innocent until proven guilty” isn’t just a fancy phrase, it’s an established American right.

      1. They are trying to find his family while he's being interrogated. There's more than one person working the case.
      2. Your assumption is simply not true. That's how YOU would react. Doesn't make it the normal response people would have. It also doesn't make it abnormal, though. There are some who would react that way. But there are many who would be scared to death and distraught but calm because they know they had nothing to do with the disappearance of their loved ones. Easiest thing to remember is the truth and if your story doesn't change and you had nothing to do with it, you really have nothing to get angry or pissed about or extremely nervous about. The FBI and law enforcement are doing a job and unfortunately as the husband/significant other, you're always going to be considered a possible suspect.
      3. Getting angry and belligerent could also give the impression that you're purposely trying to make it look like you had nothing to do with it. It could also show that you're impulsive and have a pretty bad temper. Two things that you don't want law enforcement to realize about you when it comes to the investigation of your wife's murder.
Chris was a horrible liar. He lied about having an affair initially. If there was ever a time to come clean about it, it was after they first asked him. But he lied. It shows that if he's willing to lie initially about something like that, he's definitely going to lie about killing his family. That's what did him in. He could have easily freaked out and gone, "Why the fuck are you questioning me??? I loved those kids, you mother fucker. Go out and find them and let me go" and still have killed them.

Hope you never get killed by anybody. Amen. And to add to your note to your future husband, you gotta promise not to take him to court for half of everything he owns, half of everything he inherited (if any), half of the money in the joint accounts, half of the equity in all his private accounts and investments (even in those accounts and investments he may have had prior to meeting you), custody of the kids, child support, and the max alimony money possible, because that was partly the motive for Chris' killings and that of other murderous husbands in the recent past. Because as psychopathic and as evil as Chris is, we have a scary divorce system that scares lots of horrible husbands into now considering murder over divorce. So I hope the government starts to look more into that, otherwise I'm really concerned that we will see similar situations like Chris' pop up. Sadly.

He did it consistently in the initial news interview he gave when he was "pleading" for their pretend kidnappers to release them. He talked about the house feeling empty without "anybody" there (focused on his own feelings, and not referring to them specifically). Like @James said, it is "distancing" language, and it gives away his lack of caring. In that interview, he also took slight digs at his kids, which is another common thing that killers do after the fact. I don't remember exactly what he said, but it was something about one of the girls being too hyperactive I think. A typical loving parent would instead be talking about them with only the highest praise, and certainly would be claiming them as their own ("my babies/my family".) It's scary how bad he was at even faking being a loving husband/father, considering he'd played that role for years.

Because I've said before "ahhh my kids must have had some sugar today....these kids are driving me up a wall" in a joking tone with friends. But if my kids were missing.....MY MY MY KIDS, and the last thing I'd be doing either like during the discussion of what he thought should happen to the person responsible.....it was like he was asking for advice, trying to clarify for his own personal gain, what happens when someone is found guilty of harming another. It was emotionless. I'd be screaming and sobbing like wtf I dont even want to think about that, we're going to find my kids.....and if they asked more I'd say I hope the person rots in hell, or prison for rest of their lives, if it were a death penalty state I'd say that. But I certainly wouldn't be asking about legal proceedings, at that point I don't give a f*** I want to find my kids!

It’s been a few years since the murders - I was obsessed with this case when it first happened. I was actually in Denver on a business trip when it happened so I had a sort of strange desire to know & really understand what happened; I was glued to the tv & internet reading & watching every single thing published about this case at the time & for weeks & months after.
Years later I’ve come to the conclusion that Chris intended to kill Shannan. He pounced when she came to bed that night. I honestly don’t think he planned to kill the girls initially. I don’t think he had any plans for the girls at all. I think he’s seriously THAT stupid. He was so obsessed with Nicky & needed Shannan out of the way so that he could continue his relationship. I think he killed Shannan & then Bella came into the room immediately after & asked what was wrong with her mom, making him realize 1) he had a witness & 2) he couldn’t just make Shannan disappear without also making the girls disappear. I don’t think he had a plan for how he would murder the girls because I don’t think it was plan, I think it was a “game time” decision. Not that any of that is really relevant to the outcome of this case, but I really don’t think he set out that evening/morning to murder his kids. Ultimately he did kill them & he’s exactly where he deserves to be for the rest of his life. I hope he slowly rots in that prison cell & I hope he is haunted that the memories of his beautiful family. I hope he suffers horrible nightmares, I hope he’s working in the auto shop at the prison & is forced to scrub oil from beneath his finger nails every day & falls asleep to the smell of oil every night, a harsh reminder of where he hid the little bodies of his children.
He’s a disgusting human being. Shannan, Bella, Cici & Niko deserved so, soo much more.
