      What is your calves size in Inches

  • @Zspader
    @Zspader 3 года назад +96

    For my fellow black men with short calves and all my high calves brothers and sisters out there;
    Max heavy weight.
    Do seated calf raises slow & controlled. Minimum reps 20
    Standing calf raises with weight. Max out. Minimum reps 25-30.
    Standing calf raises on a step
    Standing calf raise on a step with dumbells
    Unilateral calf raise on step with weight 20 lbs minimum
    Stretch calves on the edge of the step for a minimum of 60 sec
    Stretch one calf at a time on the step for a minimum of 60 sec
    Work calves barefoot if you have steps in your home. This allow for full range of motion and for the muscles in the foot to be optimized in lifting, lowering and supporting your overall bodyweight.
    Work the tibialis anterior
    Do toe taps on a step
    Do tap taps on a flat surface
    Do toe taps on one leg on a flat surface
    Do toe taps on a step on one leg
    Get a kettlebell, loop your foot through and lift it up and down; lowering the foot facing towards you.
    If you want cardio options:
    Inline skate. Works the lower body predominantly. (Works thighs obviously, but also calves)
    Cycle on a road bike. (Works thighs obviously, but also calves)
    Jump rope. 20-30 mins 3-4 days a week.
    Train calves a minimum fo 3x days a week.
    Train 4-6 if you want.
    Slow twitch muscle fibers need to stimulated twice as hard. Break through your "inhibitors"

      As somebody with high insertion calves I realized that there is no formula to make them grow than to smash them daily. I made mine grow to a pretty decent size by doing standing calf raises with my own body weight daily to the point where I could walk no more for some minutes. One foot standing calf raise then change to the other foot then keep doing with both then use your hands to keep pulling you up when you can’t no more, make them burn daily and you’ll see results. I did a 100 standing calf raises then moved up to 200 at home only, then I’d go to the gym and do seated calf raises every now and then.

    Most Olympic sprinters have kinda small calves compared to the size of their quads/hams. Even in nature - cheetahs, greyhounds, etc have smaller joints, but big upper legs/thighs. I think this ratio is beneficial for sprinting.

    Seated calf raise works the soleus not the gastrocnemius (the classic tear drop on your calves) so when going for calf hypertrophy the standing calf raise will illicit the most noticeable results as it targets the gastrocnemius more effectively

    Considering that you walk around daily, your calves might just be overloaded and never getting enough time to rest to grow properly. I started playing tennis 4-5 times a week when I was 5 years old, by 15 my legs were like trunks and my calves huge. Not saying it has nothing to do with genetics because it does but also improperly training them could lag the development. Less weight but exercising until failure, like legit failure is the way. But you gotta let them rest properly afterward.

      How long between workouts, and how do you make your shins grow

    • @satdm9721
      @satdm9721 3 года назад

      @@death8570 You gotta listen to your body in regards to how much time it needs to recover, hard to assign a timeframe because it will vary individually depending on your body. What I've learned from my experience, sometimes even when I feel like I have completely recovered it could be close to 100% but not exactly, i.e 85-90-95... It would feel normal to do your routine, but those last % are what your muscles need for that final growth. The easy thing to do is to just move slightly less after your leg days, doesn't mean that you have to spend the whole day on the couch but just be aware that your legs cannot fully grow & repair while you are using them for even basic things like walking. Sometimes changing your exercising style might help too when you've hit a wall. Using my tennis example, I never went to the gym until I was 16, but my legs were growing exponentially, while other body parts were lagging. Tennis movements are short quick sprints, stops, and jumps. This type of exercising style would definitely make anyone's legs grow as long as it is consistent. Have fun, stay motivated, stay in a routine, eat, rest, and the gains will follow.

    Hey Austin! Whenever I train biceps (chin ups, pull ups, etc...) the biceps themselves are never sore. The only thing that it feels like it’s exercising is the inside elbow area (between the biceps and the forearms). I’m just wondering if this is normal and if there is something I am doing wrong.

    • @omarbarradas306
      @omarbarradas306 3 года назад +2

      Well, in first place chin ups and pull ups are not really a bicep exercise, but a back exercise, that´s why you don´t get sore in your arms, if you want to isolate your biceps you can do bicep curls with dumbells or rings, if you don´t have that equipment, doing chin ups with a very close grip will target more your biceps.
      Second, you get sore in your elbow area because of a fore arm weakness, don´t worry too much about it, doing dead hangs from the bar should help you getting stronger grip, hope I helped you

    on my opinion if u want to maximize ur calve growht u need to be more active if person goes to the gym 6 days a weeks it doesnt mean his active u need to walk atleast 70km or 70k steps a week run once a week or twice do bicycle instead of car what i noticed i have dominant legs calves and i seen most growt when i active i move walk a lot cuz if you think if you do just calve raises thats like 2% of training when u compare to walking running and for me the best exercises for calves i think is sand hill running in the beach where u have sand and hills if u do that u will have your calves at the peak

    The best way to make your calves bigger to never do specific calf targeted workout. You should do your normal leg workout and then do farmers walk in the end. That'll make your calf bigger. But calf raises and all that other stuff dont help. Look at someone like eddie hall with massive calves and he'll tell you the same thing.

    Seated calf raises have the problem that by simply sitting down you shed a lot of added weight, so you need to further increase the weight to see similar difficulty compared with standing.
    The positioning of your feet matters and might actually be part fo the reason your calves are not growing as fast as you might think they should. Your feet should be facing straight forward, not in or out. Most people tend to lean outward to some degree. An easy way to check is to stand on the ground and bend your feet at the balls of your foot. The line of where your foot bends should be in a straight and flush line one foot to the next. This will ensure your load is balanced and engage the muscles equally. Likely by doing so you will feel the difference some and your feet will likely look like they are pointing in a little.
    If your feet are pointing in too much, then you will engage the outer calf more. If your feet are pointing out too much you will engage the inner calf more. This is the same when doing squats.
    An alternative to calf raises is to combine them with squats. When you squat remain on the balls of your feet. When lifting back up perform a calf raise and hold it for a moment. By not standing fully flat footed you keep the tension up.
